About Karen Loudon
Karen is from Canada and Robert is from Louisiana, we met in Hawaii and our daughter was born here. We love the simple, slow pace of life of the Big Island! Yes, we are pet friendly, as we are pet owners who love their pets! We have traveled with pets in the past and always feel more welcomed when they are welcomed as well. We want to pass that along to our renters. We have a tiny chihuahua named Teeny, who is pretty-much always upstairs sleeping, she's very quiet and doesn't bark (she's basically a cat!). Our 13yr old calico cat, Female (pronounced like Tamale), is indoor/outdoor, she likes to visit our guests. Feel free to let her in the apartment, or to shoo her away! We also have two guinea pigs that live outside in a nifty "guinea pig lawn mower". Feel free to feed them your fruit & veggie scraps.
Karen Loudon purchased this Apartment in 2006
Why Karen Loudon chose Kalaoa
We love this location, the proximity to Kona & beaches, the cooler elevation, with the sun rising from the slopes of Holualoa in the morning and the cool breeze flowing through our windows in the evening.
What makes this Apartment unique
The sunsets are fabulous as well as evening stargazing.

Ground floor appartment with everything you need! Good location close to Kona, but cooler. Nice.
Fully stacked and big kitchen, garden furniture and really everything you would need on the beach.
It's a little up the mountain, which means a nicer climate than on the coast. Kind hosts live upstairs, their wooden floor is a little noisy.
Bring OFF if you want to sit outside, the garden is great.
Would go back.
Thanks Karen and Robert!
Very clean and feels like home
We greatly enjoyed our stay! Everything we could have needed down to toiletries and beach gear was right there. It really felt like a home away from home and the private entrance never made it feel like you were imposing on anyone's privacy. Thank you for your Kindness and generosity!
Clean, homey, stocked with all you'll need
We booked Karen's place when we needed to make a quick move from our previous rental without a chance to see it in person ahead of time. The photos on the site show it "like it is" and we enjoyed our stay there. The only drawback was some heavy footsteps upstairs in the evenings at times, but I can't fault owners with living their lives. Too late to add soundproofing. We appreciated the gas cook top, full size refrigerator and all the counter space compared to the place we had been.
Thank you so much for for feedback Mary, we enjoyed hosting you and your husband! I apologize for the loud footsteps, and I will be reminding my husband, who can tend to have a "lead foot" to walk more softly in the future, I only wish you had mentioned this to use during your stay. In fact, we have actually taken considerable steps, at considerable expense, to soundproof the floor/ceiling when we constructed the apartment in 2007, we installed insulation under the floor boards, a double layer of drywall with resilient channels that decouples the drywall from the studs, as well as sound absorbing acoustic underlayment under the flooring. Other than the footsteps, I don't imagine you would have heard any voices or any other sounds coming through the floor.
Best Regards from the Loudon Family
We had a great stay at this property. Karen and Robert were very friendly and the apartment was clean, nicely decorated and in a nice location. The apratment had pretty much everything you would need on a vacation. We really enjoyed ourselves and would for sure come back to stay here again. Thanks for the great memories!
Ashley, Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback about your experience at our vacation rental. We enjoyed meeting you and look forward to having you as our guests again in the future!
Warmest Regards from The Loudon Family
Great Place for a great price
Our family stayed in this ohana suite for a week while searching for a long term rental. We have kids and I can say their property is very kid friendly. Lots of vegetation and fruit trees which we were given full permission to take what we wanted from. We were provided with a full household of utilities including pots, pans, plates, spices, blankets, beach toys, beach towels, you name it.
The property is about a ten minute drive from the airport and about fifteen minutes from downtown Kona. You do receive a guaranteed parking spot for one vehicle and there is plenty of open parking on the quiet street if you need additional spots.
If you're looking for a place to stay that isn't loud and is in a cooler climate, this is a good rental to pick.
We'd enjoyed there so much!
Room and kitchen was clean and comfortable.
Thank you for owner family's kindness!
