About Alex Ginn
Why Alex Ginn chose San Blas
Unique, authentic, relaxed, adventurous area of Mexico.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Beautiful property, strong on style, weak on function.
Stunning house, location, sunsets. Very quiet after midnight, decent beds, and mostly very clean. Fast text communication wit owner.
Our family group enjoyed layout, big kitchen, beautiful pool and pelapa. Swam for hours in the warm ocean just down the stairs. Memorable meals nearby.
We're very experienced Mexican travelers, and were prepared for the heat, bugs, and sun. We had a Swede with us, not used to those things, so we chose the house especially for its comfort amenities.
Sadly, first few days were tainted by check-in process itself, conditions on arrival, and bad AC, among other things. I spent hours emailing owner and dealing w/manager about issues. I was polite to Owner, giving him info, and he seemed sincere with apologies and assistance.
Mgr didn't know we were coming until two days before.
No info on VRBO website, so Owner finally sent house instructions before arrival after I asked him, but much was outdated and wrong.
Arrival: AC wasn't on and house hadn't been aired; it was stifling hot inside and stunk. We aired it out quickly. After we turned on the AC units, two of the bedrooms cooled down, but not Master Bedroom. We slept in kids' bunk bed room for first two nights. Prop mgr & AC repairman all said at first that we didn't know how to use the control. False. After a couple of days, we were believed, and it was fixed. Living room unit went out on last day.
No towels in house on arrival. Manager came back with one towel for each person and promised more in the morning, and filled promise. "White" towels were dingy, but that's normal in Mexico. OK.
AC units (that worked) dripped constantly making large puddles on the tile floors; we put bowls under them. It rained once, & dining room ceiling light leaked majorly for the last few days, with a bowl under it also.
Locks on the beautiful sliding glass doors didn't work. One never locked, the other automatically locked every time we went out (wouldn't stay unlocked) and then it stopped locking too, so we had to slide the heavy metal security doors closed every time we went out, and at night.
Instrux said hall closet had more towels, sunscreen, supplies, but our keys didn't open it Manager said it was broken, then said we weren't allowed access. Owner told him to open it for us, later.
Good communication with owner via text. Had to do it too often. Great place, just be prepared for issues.
Refund neither requested, nor offered.
House is exactly as described and pictured! Absolutely beautiful! Comfortable and relaxing. Best family vacation we have ever had. Location is perfect to restaurants, markets, and beaches! Owner and managers respond immediately and assist with anything you need. Again, best family vacation we have ever had! Will be returning for sure!
Fantastic Beach House!
Our group of 7 plus 1 toddler stayed here from Christmas to New Years, and it was the best holiday! This is a beautiful house. It is very well laid out, spotless, and contains everything you might need. We could have spent all of our time just around the pool. When the sliding glass doors open up the whole front of the house, an amazing indoor-outdoor living experience is created. It is in a great location if you appreciate being off the beaten tourist path which we did. Great surfing close by and lots of fun places to explore. Several great restaurants within walking distance and lots of choices in San Blas. Alex went above and beyond as a host as did Daniel, the house manager. Our many thanks! Lisa and family
perfect house for family vacations!!!
we have a great time over there! is a great house, with a perfect sized pool and green area for little kids.. the attention from the owner and also from the housekeeper always was great. the house location is perfect! for sure, we will rent this house again!! 😉
A lovely Beachfront Home
Wonderful, quiet spot in a relatively undeveloped part of Mexico. The house is quite new and well maintained with a great private pool. The sandy beach in front varied in size (from 0 to 40 feet) depending on the tide and is bordered by a stone retaining wall. We enjoyed it very much. Several good local authentic Mexican restaurants. San Blas is about 20 minutes north and a good spot for shopping, more upscale dining as well as a surf rental and instruction spot. Local hikes and visits to other adjacent beaches is also recommended. This area is not frequented by many tourists (at least not yet) which was appealing for us. Our maintenance guy named Daniel was very helpful and committed to his job. His English was excellent which helped us considerably, given that our family (all Canadians) spoke virtually no Spanish. A few mosquitoes about some evenings so bring repellant just in case. The internet worked very well.
Perfect house for our family!
We started looking at the San Blas area after the hurricane hit Cabo this fall and we were forced to change our Thanksgiving plans. Having been to Puerto Vallarta many times but not much further north than Salulita we were intrigued by the "Riviera of Nayarit".
The directions given by the owners were very thorough and included Google earth photos of key turns. I speak Spanish and this was helpful in confirming we were on the right path during the 2.5 hr drive from the air port as the villages you travel through to arrive at this little paradise are not touristy.
The caretaker met us at the house and was very friendly and welcoming. The first thing our 14-year-old said when we opened the gate was "this is paradise!"
The house is very clean and open with three bedrooms and five beds, one could sleep many people there. Our family of five including a infant was more than comfortable. We arranged for the caretakers wife to cook us a few meals at the house since going out with the infant is difficult. These ended up being our best meals and wished we had done that almost every night. The cost was comparable to going out to eat.
We ventured to San Blas often to rent surfboards and surf on the beach there. There were a couple bodyboards at the house for our teenagers to use on the waves in front of the house.
The beach in front of the house is tide dependent so it is not there all of the time. This was not a dealbreaker for us but we did need to be mindful when taking walks on the beach with the kids. Also, The beach itself was not very sandy or great for lounging on. Better to just walk down the steps from the house and go swimming in the super warm ocean. If the waves were hitting the sea wall one could just stay in the pool or make a short drive 15 min to another beach.
The Internet worked well and we made a few land line calls to the U.S.
My only slight complaint was that our deposit was slow in getting back to us.
Over all this was a beautiful house on the beach in a quiet Mexican town. Plenty of outdoor activities to do and locals to interact with. Great value for the cost. I would recommend this for any one looking for a quiet authentic Mexican vacation.
On Playa Los Cocos, you will experience Mexico at the northern part of Mexico’s popular tourist destination Riviera Nayarit. It’s a beautiful place to surf on unspoiled beaches, go bird watching on a jungle tour, and taste some of Mexico’s freshest seafood dishes. You also can practice your Spanish with the friendly people in the nearby Pueblos of Aticama and San Blas.
Daniel, our house manager, speaks English. He will check you in and out, and is available by phone or text if needs or questions arise. His wife, Rosa, is available to cook for a modest extra charge.
There is secure parking for up to 4 cars within the walls of the property.
The beach is sandy all winter long, but mid-summer to October/November will be dependent on the tides. Summer 2015 has had exceptionally high tides, so some weeks there has been no beach
