Overview

Waimea Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Newly built 1 bedroom cottage on 3 acres. Beautiful views, close to the beac

Newly built 700 square foot self-contained living space in a private, separate wing of the house. The bedroom and living areas are filled with light, looking out to gorgeous views of the three mountains - Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa and Hualalai. Enjoy the fully equipped kitchen, dining area, cozy reading nook in the living room, spacious bedroom with walk-in closet, brand new bathroom with walk-in shower, wireless internet and Direct TV (movies, tv shows and music channels).

The teak bench in front of the cottage is a perfect place to sit and watch the clouds play over Mauna Kea. Out the back door off the kitchen, there is a new gas barbecue and table and chairs for dining or enjoying sunsets or the bright starry nights. There is also a storage chest full of beach chairs, boogie boards and snorkel gear for your use.

Our 3-acre property has a large house we recently remodeled to include the guest cottage at one end of the house. My husband and I live in a separate wing on the other end of our L-shaped home. The two living spaces are separated by a covered lanai with fencing and landscaping providing privacy for each dwelling.

We respect our guestsʻ privacy and enjoy our own. We are also happy to answer questions you may have to help you enjoy your stay on the island. We will be happy to steer you to our favorite restaurants, beaches, walking trails and island adventures.

We enjoy gardening and have planted fruit trees, some vegetables and herbs and many flowers. You are welcome to share fruits and vegetables that are ripe during your stay - we often have bananas, lilikoʻi, or papaya and fresh herbs.

Situated on the 'dry side' of Waimea, we are half way between Kawaihae and Waimea town, ten minutes drive from both. The best beaches on the island are 10-15 minutes away.

Located at 1800 foot elevation, our days are sunny and warm. Temperatures cool down in the evening - perfect for a good nights sleep. Cardinals, doves, finches and other birds fill our quiet 3-acre property with song.

About Catrinka Holland

After living in the Sierra Nevada for 30 years, John & Catrinka came to Hawaiʻi in 2007, bringing along Lucca, their Golden Retriever. Although retired from working as a therapy dog, Lucca continues to spread good will and joy to everyone he meets.

Catrinka Holland purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Catrinka Holland chose Kohala Coast

We love the quick and easy access to both town and beach. This is our favorite climate zone with warm sunny days and cooler nights. It took us five years to find just the right place - 3 acres on a quiet street with expansive views out to three mountains, and space and sun to grow mangos, papayas, bananas, avocados and lilikoʻi. We love the community of Waimea and the great snorkeling beaches just down the road.

Peaceful views

  • 5 of 5

The place was exactly as described-- But the photos don't capture how very peaceful it is;, wonderful views of the 3 currently inactive volcanoes. The cottage itself was well appointed--everything anyone would require to cook; very clean and well designed. Anything needed for the beach was there, and the unit included a yoga mat!.

After the heat of Kona and the beaches, it is a welcome relief , and about a 10 degree difference in temperature, to head to this cottage for a quiet night. Lots of birds too.

The hosts are kind , very generous and welcoming.

Had a very nice stay in this property. The hosts were helpful but not intrusive. Very clean and well organized. Great location in between the Ocean and Town of Waimea. Thanks for the nice stay!

Wonderful mountain retreat property with easy access to everything!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this wonderful property for our 2 year anniversary as we had taken our honeymoon at the Big Island and had looked forward to returning. The cottage is mildly secluded in a very quiet neighborhood only a few minutes from the best beaches on the island. There are wonderful views of the mountains right out the bedroom and living room windows, and we found it to be the perfect place to unwind and relax. Additionally, the cottage has everything you need for comfort including a washer/dryer and kitchen items. We found the property to be much more comfortable versus staying at a hotel. Catrinka and John were wonderful hosts and were always willing to help make our stay more comfortable , answer questions, or to help with anything that we needed. Overall, we would definitely visit the property again the next time we make a trip to the Big Island!

Best place I've stayed in Hawaii

  • 5 of 5

This perfectly appointed ohana in Waimea (Kamuela) is excelled only by the kindness of the hosts. It is convenient to both beaches & the little town (for grocery shopping, Parker Ranch and restaurants) and yet in the middle of expansive views of three mountains adorned with dancing clouds. It's graced by a lovely little tropical garden front and back, tasteful and relaxed furnishings, equipment for the beach (snorkels, boogie boards, chairs, towels, etc.) - and the most generous, knowledgable, respectful and relaxed hosts - we were in heaven!

Peaceful getaway within easy distance of beaches and restaurants

  • 5 of 5

This lovely, peaceful vacation rental was much welcomed after spending two weeks near Honolulu. The location was 10 minutes from the beaches and close to Waimea which offered shopping, restaurants and farmers markets. The property is tucked below a major road so there is no traffic noise. The breezes lulled us to sleep at night and the sound of birds woke us in the morning. There were beach supplies and a eclectic selection of books to read when we felt like hanging out. The property was immaculately clean and well furnished. Catrinka and John provided us with fresh fruit from the grounds and a wealth of information about where to go and what to do. Don't miss The Fish House for fresh fish caught that morning. We would definitely recommend this vacation rental to our friends and those that want to be away from resorts. Hope we can come back in the future.

Owner's Response: Mahalo for your review. We cooked up some delicious mahi mahi from Da Fish House yesterday. So lucky to live near one of the best places on the island to get fresh fish. We're happy our place worked out so well for you two. We sure enjoyed having you and hope you can come stay with us again.

just fabulous!

Very well-maintained vacation rental with added homely touches and good quality linens. We slept so well with the firm mattress and peaceful surroundings. Kept all the windows open at night and enjoyed the refreshing breeze (all windows have bug screens)

It was a delight to retreat back upcountry after a morning on the beach. Really appreciated a more temperate climate and lovely mists! Catrinka was superb throughout the booking process and super helpful during our stay. Great choice of restaurants close by in Waimea. Highly recommend for lovers of authentic travel.

The town of Waimea, just 10 minutes away, has excellent restaurants (many utilizing farm to table fresh ingredients), the Kahilu Theatre with world class entertainment, grocery stores, drugstore, hospital, local cultural events, several weekly farmers markets, parks, and shopping. The little town of Kawaihae is 10 minutes drive in the other direction and also has some great restaurants, a great place to buy fresh fish, the Puʻukohola Heiau national park and picnic tables by the bay.
