My family of 6 spent 5 days/4 nights at this lake house between Christmas and New Years. It was a perfect winter getaway! The house suited our needs with 4 nice sized bedrooms and comfortable beds. The family room and dining area were great for lounging and playing board games. The highlight was hanging out in the hot tub on the deck with the view of Cayuga Lake and the brilliant stars at night( very little ambient light around). The location was excellent for trips into Ithaca and Cornell, skiing at Greek Peak, and hiking at Taughannock Falls. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and embracing winter! Hope to return in a different season.
The good news is that the house is in a great location - right on the water, lovely views, both a generous deck and a narrow beach for outdoor enjoyment. The train only passed in the daytime and was rather fun. In early June there are lots of birds in the thickets behind the house so birdwatchers can enjoy that. Ithaca was not far. The two bedrooms downstairs were very spacious and the two upstairs bedrooms were fine - views of the lake from all the bedrooms. Kitchen well-stocked with plenty of dishes, pots, utensils. The bad news...there was practically no water pressure. The house, particularly the bathrooms, should have been much cleaner than it was and we had to clean as soon as we arrived. The entire deck was full of debris and had to be thoroughly swept. We knew the security deposit check would not come immediately but it took six weeks...why that was necessary is unclear. Have stayed in other houses that were in the same price range yet offered much better attention to detail.
Our group of eight women spent 5 days in this fabulous lake house! Alan was a great host, always responsive and helpful. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. It was great having some spices readily available as well. The weather was perfect, hot days and cool nights. The ceiling fans throughout the house were all that was needed. Not that we watched much TV, but the living room has an awesome TV and surround sound system. It was great for watching game 7 of the NBA finals and the seasons last episode of Game of Thrones!! Outside there was so much to do and we took advantage of it all! Morning coffee and nightly dinners on the deck.
Daily kayaking, sunbathing on the dock, reading and relaxing by the water. Using the fire pit on the beach was one of the best nights we had. It's a 20 minute drive to Ithaca so easy access for shopping. We also visited the Ithaca Winery which was really fun and located in a beautiful setting. Another day we spent hiking. Just relaxing at the lake house was by far the best time for all of us. We would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend for others! Thanks Alan for sharing your lakehouse!!
We just returned from a week staying at this property and it was very enjoyable. We were two couples with babies and one grandmother. The house was very comfortable, the kitchen well stocked. The owner was very welcoming yet gave us our space. It was great to have so many full bathrooms. A previous review said they didn't like the sheets or towels but they seemed of decent quality to me! The hot tub and fire pit were real favorites. We also enjoyed the kayaks. The lake was very peaceful on the weekdays, less so on the weekends. It was a bit of a drive to get to the other side of the lake where more of the action was (hiking, wineries, etc.). The beach (like all shoreline in the area) was rocky so consider wearing water shoes or only swimming off the dock. The train did go by on Tuesday at around 2:00am, it seemed to move very slowly and was intermittently loud, but that was that. There were a few steamy nights when we missed having air conditioning, but most days it cooled off nicely at night and the sound of the waves lulled us to sleep. Would rent again.
Spent a week last summer. The house is in a lovely location, great view of the lake. Train tracks super close, awakened startled by sound of the train at 2 AM, did only come through once the week we were there. The house was not very clean by our standards upon arrival, dirty floors, beds made up wrong, bathrooms not very clean. We left it MUCH cleaner than when we arrived. The linens are really bad, old towels, thin sheets. This house really needs a women's touch! Enjoyed our week, but was way too expensive for what we got. Would not come back here again, especially when we looked at other houses in person and how beautiful they were. Took this one off of the internet, live and learn!
We rented the house for a last minute reunion of young alumni from Cornell. Alan was incredibly accommodating and responsive with helping us make the reunion work on such short notice. When we arrived, he made us feel at ease in the house and graciously showed us how to use everything properly, including the hot tub, fire pit, etc.
The location is beautiful and secluded right along Cayuga Lake, though the neighbors are very close by. The deck is spacious and lent itself to eating outdoors every night. The fire pit and provided paddle boards and kayaks meant we were on the dock and in/by the water for much of the time!
