A Slice of Heaven
I will not be able to do justice to the joy my wife and I experienced at Blancou. From the beauty and utter stillness of its setting to its location near the charming town of St. Antonin (with its bounteous Sunday Farmers’ Market), this is a magical place that also made for a great home base from which to explore the many picturesque medieval villages in the area. The house, a great size for just my wife and me, was also large enough to accommodate our children and their spouses when they came to visit.
Peter and Allison were perfect hosts, taking care of any occasional need we had, and also providing us with valuable advice about what the area had to offer, all while giving us the privacy that we were after. What they have painstakingly done to create this beautifully restored property from what was a highly distressed 18th-century farmhouse and grounds is nothing short of amazing.
In addition to the aforementioned peacefulness, the fruit trees, the garden, the fresh eggs (from the chickens on the property), the pool, the cozy comfort of the spacious house, the beautiful sunsets and of course the somewhat comical and entertaining geese all made Blancou a supremely relaxing and special haven in which to spend our holiday.
Blancou - Stunning location!
We had the pleasure of staying at Blancou recently and I would fully recommend it as a great base to explore an absolutely magnificent area, or a place to chill and totally relax.
Alison and Pete have created an idyllic place which has been designed to a high standard. The accommodation is spacious and the farm house combines the mod-cons you need with rustic French charm. The Tower is also very comfortable and you really do feel like you own you’re own corner of France during your stay.
The grounds are well cared for and the vegetable and herb gardens are impressive. The swimming pool provides the perfect spot to relax and has amazing views of the stunning countryside.
Alison and Pete will be able to advise on visiting the nearby village and there is plenty going on to ensure a varied break. Blancou has to be seen to be believed and in a sunny day you can’t fail to be taken in by the tranquility on offer. We will be back!
Excellent, superb area, and great hosts.
I am not sure that I can add very much to all the very positive reviews for this property. It is located in a beautiful tranquil setting with views across open fields to the Aveyron Gorge. It has everything that any family would need for a wonderful holiday. The pool is lovely and was very much a focal point of our holiday for our family of four adults and three children. The surrounding area is beautiful with plenty of activities on land or water for the more energetic. There are chateaux and other places of interest for the whole family to visit within a reasonable drive. St Antonin Noble Val is only 10 minutes away and has a small supermarket with just about everything you would need as well as a petrol/diesel station. St Antonin has a large variety of restaurants and cafes - we recommend Le Beffroi in rue de Guilhem Peyre. Caussade, about 20 minutes away, has larger supermarkets if required. Toulouse is only about an hour away and has a huge open air swimming pool complex which we visited twice. Alison and Peter are great hosts - available when needed but otherwise keeping very much to themselves. They have a variety of fresh vegetables and other produce available. Our children loved helping to put the geese to bed in the evening.
Wonderful family countryside holiday!
We had a brilliant holiday at this charming 'self-catering' in France last year, returned this year, and would love to every year! - Absolutely PERFECT for a big family, and if you need to DE-STRESS! Blancou provides enough private space for 4 couples! and some. They also had accommodation for the baby! French countryside at its best! Beautiful centuries-old barns are restored to a high standard while keeping all the original materials and character features. The buildings are simply the work of art of hostesses Alison and Peter who have created a haven of tranquility and rustic country beauty. If you are in need of catching up with good sleep, Blancou is just the place. The big country family kitchen is fully equipped and complimented by the fact that one can get several herbs and veggies from the garden. The bread van drives into the drive and you can purchase fresh bread and other products. The cleanest pool overlooking nothing but the hills, valley and the horizon, simply peaceful. In addition to the large wooden table in the kitchen for indoor eating, there is a wonderful facility for barbecue and a cozy outdoor eating area overlooking the hills, while the sun goes down and the stars come out. The cute village of St. Antonin Noble Val nearby is the typical country French village with quaint shops and a market once a week, with exquisite local products. Other nearby villages also have markets on different days. We can't recommend Blancou enough for a week or more get-away for the whole family! Compliments and appreciation to Alison and Peter for creating and sharing such a magical, special place. We will return!
Thank you Blancou!
I travelled to Blancou with my girlfriend and her family towards the end of June.
After arriving quite late we were quickly shown around the farmhouse before we made our excuses and collapsed into a comfortable bed, our excitement already considerably raised by the glimpses of the valleys, bridges and villages we passed through in the dark.
When we woke up and stepped outside into a warm and bright morning we were so pleased! We had seen photos but the view and grounds of the farmhouse were still fantastic. A mixture of well-maintained gardens, farmland, distant views of an impressive gorge, an extremely well stocked veg patch and an assorted mix match of lazy cats, waddling geese, chickens and ducks! Walking the geese each morning and afternoon was a quick highlight. A welcoming swimming pool from the heat was greatly appreciated, more so because it was always spotlessly clean (with a bug net for the unfortunate few!).
The farmhouse itself was also a mix of rustic character and modern amenities. 4 large bedrooms and another in an adjacent barn provided plenty of space for our large group, providing everything we needed.
Food was as easy and tasty as you would expect in France. Local produce from the vegetable patch and fantastic local markets (one located in the nearby St Antontin Noble Val - make a walk around this beautiful medieval village a priority!) kept us going, with a number of supermarkets handy for the 'big shops'. Fresh bread was also available if you heard the awaiting hoot from a door to door bakery car. We ate everyday out on the big table on the patio, which was accompanied by a BBQ which we took full advantage of.
There was certainly plenty to do. Swimming, countryside walks and table tennis were all available at the farm, though I must admit I was thoroughly enjoying reading in the heat for much of the time.
Away from Blancou (A rented car is a must!) we spent one excellent day kayaking down the river through the valleys, forests and weirs. A cafe halfway around from our pickup point provided a great port of call for a beer. A nearby chateaux gave us an extremely interesting wine tasting session, something I’ve never done before, and gave us the chance to purchase some great value and quality wine.
Lastly I would also like to thank Alison and Peter for being such wonderful hosts. They were a constant source of information, ideas and translation. A really wonderful holiday.
Just what the Doctor ordered
We were a family party of 6 adults looking for a quiet location to enjoy some quality leisure time together and to recharge our batteries. We couldn't have found a more suitable place if we had built it ourselves. Blancou met all our expectations, and more - space, stunning views, very comfortable accomodation, St Antonin on our doorstep (ok, a short drive away) who could ask for anything more? Alison and Peter were on hand to show us around when we arrived and to give us some information and tips on the local area, Alison even taught my wife to herd the geese (good fun to watch). We all had a thoroughly great time, came back fully refreshed with many happy memories and plans are already in place to return again next year.
This truly is the place to relax and unwind with your family or friends. Whatever your age, we cater for everyone and it’s not just the children who enjoy the animals.
Blancou is located adjacent to the Aveyron gorge on the edge of the tiny hamlet of Quergoalle. It is a short drive (7 km) from the historic town of St Antonin Noble Val which offers a variety of traditional shops and a renowned Sunday market—a must for all market loving guests. All around are wonderful villages to visit such as Penne, Bruniquel, Najac and Cordes. Visit the Grotte Du Bosc (a local cave), try canoeing or paddle boarding through the Aveyron gorge or go walking or cycling in the peaceful, unspoilt countryside. These are just some of the activities available locally. Slightly further afield, the tallest bridge in the world at Millau makes a good day trip as does the space centre in Toulouse. For those who like driving, the Mediterranean or Pyrenees are both within easy reach. Finally, don’t forget the wine. Blancou is situated between the wine producing regions of Gaillac and Quercy and a visit to the vineyards is recommended.
Other Activities: canoeing, kayaking, badminton, boules, table football, table tennis
