Overview

Seattle Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 Bathroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 4

The cottage welcomes guests with an inviting mix of vintage charm and 21st century updates. It sits in an evolving garden on its own lot, next door to our house. Our north Seattle neighborhood offers a quiet and convenient springboard to the Seattle area's wonderful attractions.

Beadboard and shingle walls, an antique stained glass window and a tile floor in the foyer welcome visitors to the front door. The foyer opens into the warm fir floors of the living room, where a comfortable vintage sofa and rocker allow you to relax with a book, the stereo/iPod dock, or the flat screen TV. Netflix streaming is included, along with a DVD player. A wall of bookshelves is stocked with a variety of reading material, and a cabinet houses an assortment of games and puzzles. Wireless internet and a small desk provide a comfortable workspace if needed.

The kitchen includes a full-sized stove and refrigerator, with cookware to prepare full meals for family or friends. When you arrive you’ll find the kitchen stocked with a variety of breakfast foods, plus some pantry basics such as cooking oil and spices. A table and chairs are tucked in a nook just off the kitchen. An ironing board, original to the house, is built into a cabinet in the kitchen wall (the iron itself is 21st century!).

The bathroom maximizes its small footprint with great function and thoughtful details. It features the charm of a marble hex-tile floor with the modern comfort of radiant heat to keep toes toasty. The quiet overhead fan also offers a heater and nightlight. Shelves and wallhooks are conveniently placed to keep your gear handy around the pedestal sink. A vintage light fixture and medicine cabinet combine with tile walls and a curbless shower to create a comfortable, eclectic space.

The larger bedroom features a queen bed with brass headboard. The smaller bedroom offers a double bed with painted iron headboard. In warm weather, both beds offer high thread-count cotton sheets; soft European flannel sheets are supplied in winter. A variety of cotton, wool, and down blankets and comforters allows you to customize the level of warmth and weight you sleep with, and several types of pillows allow you a choice of support. Each bedroom includes a clock radio and ceiling fan.

A new, full-sized, front load washer and dryer are stacked by the back door, making it easy to run a load of laundry if you need to. Detergent and stain remover are kept stocked.

The private backyard offers a patio and yard furniture where you can enjoy your morning coffee or relax with a book. Help yourself to the organically grown herbs for your cooking, or cut some fresh lavender to tuck into your pillowcase. We will work around your schedule for lawn mowing and garden maintenance.

While the neighborhood is quiet, it is by no means remote! Several major bus lines are within a short walk of the cottage, and we have easy access to I-5 and Highway 99, Seattle's main north/south arterials. Walkers and cyclists will find the Interurban Trail just a few blocks away. Shopping, parks, a city pool and library are within 2 miles, and a variety of reasonably priced restaurants are scattered nearby, offering ethnic foods, from Middle Eastern to Vietnamese to classic burgers and Thai.

About April

Our family lives next door to the cottage with cowardly dog Emma and some indoor-only cats. April loves gardening and reading; Mike is a journalist with an interest in history and politics, and Maggie is a college junior majoring in Chinese and science (Bio chem? Molecular biology? Something along those lines) . Our adult children and their families live in Kent and Spokane, and we always love visiting with them!

April purchased this cottage in 2012

Why April chose Seattle

After living next-door to the cottage for 20 years, we were delighted when our retired neighbor offered us the opportunity to purchase it!

Highly reccomend this cozy cottage!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is even better than the pictures posted. The grounds are beautiful and the cottage and decor are top notch. The kitchen is fully stocked with essentials as is the bathroom. The beds and pillows in both rooms were so comfortable. It is located close to downtown Seattle where we took in a Mariners game. Easy drives to nearby national forest for a day of hiking or even a drive to Mt Rainier (about a 1 1/2 drive but so worth it). We highly recommend this charming. April is very accommodating and displays a true desire to make sure all her guests needs are taken care of. Thank you April and Mike for a wonderful stay.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

  • 5 of 5

A charming small cottage, very conveniently located in quiet residential neighborhood north of the city, providing a perfect balance between north and south activities. Cute, funky (decorated in Early Grandmother), and VERY sincere! Spotlessly clean, two bedrooms, and just the right size. Beds were super comfortable. Surrounded by other vintage houses, including the owners’ who live right next door in a stone house, and the landscaping in the yard is also awesome.

Owner April was the consummate hostess, leaving us a welcome gift basket of goodies: coffee beans, lemon cookies, pita chips, a pecan-raisin bread for toasting, chocolate; as well as a fully stocked refrigerator with organic eggs, white cheddar cheese, orange juice, natural yogurts, organic milk and coffee creamer, sourdough english muffins, vanilla bean ice-cream in the freezer...wow, so gracious! Also many local attraction guide books and maps on hand; and a very complete notebook with info on all appliances, remotes, contact info, etc.

The cottage was all it was advertised to be!

Feels Like Home

  • 5 of 5

The little blue cottage feels quite homey. The gardens are especially nice. It is quite peaceful to sit out on the back patio and take in the beauty of April's artful landscaping.

We lacked nothing during our recent stay. Our hosts seemed to have thought of everything for the comfort of their guests. The floors in the bathroom and the backdoor entryway are even heated for your comfort!

We will definitely look for this cottage again when we are back in Seattle.

Roslyn Cottage

So cute and cozy. April provided everything we needed. She came over the evening we checked in to make sure all was OK. Being two single women staying there, it was nice to know the owner was right next door in case we needed anything.

Perfect place

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the cottage. Great location for those who prefer to avoid driving in Seattle, yet see all the sights. The cottage is quaint, yet updated and comfortable. It met our needs perfectly and we hope to stay there again!

Comfortable and welcoming

  • 4 of 5

Four adults (myself, my husband, our son and his friend) stayed in this cottage for 2 weeks as we searched for & set up an apartment for the two 19-year olds, who will be attending a small, local college. The owners are perfectly welcoming and accessible, very helpful with everything from spot-on tips about local businesses to how to handle coffee machine quirks. This location was perfect for our unique needs and I believe is best for those who have a car. There is easy access to the major north/south corridors of route 5 (the freeway) and route 99 (Aurora Ave) and we enjoyed trips into the city and out to the coastline (in between shopping trips to all the local thrift stores!). We highly recommend driving to nearby Green Lake for after-dinner walks; there's a 2.8 mile path around it, very pretty and great people-watching to be had. We found this unpretentious, cute, 1920's era cottage charming in every way. The beds are comfortable (the boys alternated sleeping in the 2nd bedroom and the couch, which does not pull-out), the bathroom has a great shower and heated floor, wi-fi enabled us to access the internet and we saved lots of money by cooking/eating in often - out on the back patio in the nice weather. Oh! and if you go in early September you get the benefit of partaking of the wonderful fruit and vegetable garden in the back yard!
