Quiet spot for those who want to relax and enjoy the view. Small wall library, cable TV, Wi-FI or tons of old movie videos. Grill on the deck. Sandy beach with no drop off. Mooring for boat. No Jet skies. Quite! There is only one cottage secluded in the trees. You can sit on the deck & no one can see you. The crystal clean water of Grand Traverse Bay is a few feet from the sandy beach. You can see down into the water 20-30 feet. Brisk & refreshing for the swimmer. You can walk the beach to three restaurants. With in a few miles iles excellent wineries & restaurants. Traverse is one of the top ten foodie cities in the country.
Lived in Traverse City since 1974. Lived a crossed the street raising four boys, who are now grown up & moved to other parts of the country. My wife & I would enjoy the cottage in off season, but she has since past away & are renting year round. Have been renting since 1974 & many have been returning for over ten years.
Joe Staron purchased this cottage in 1974
Being able to live in Northern Michigan & especially Traverse is a gift, which we want to share with individuals who want to enjoy the beauty & quite of the area. Please no party animals. We respect our neighbors. No big boats or Jet Skies on the beach. You have the whole bay area.

My family stayed at this shoreline cottage in May, 2016. The cottage actually sits on a very small parcel of land between Peninsula Drive and the east shoreline of West Traverse Bay. The pictures don't show that this cottage has two decks within 10 feet of the water. You can leave your bedroom door open at night and hear the waves splashing against the shore.
Overall, Joe's place is a great location - beautiful sunsets, easy to swim on the beach, have a campfire on the deck, fish from the dock and watch the boats go by. Lots of ducks to watch and an occasional otter swimming by in the morning.
The cottage has a screened in front porch - no view, but would be a good outdoor escape when the mosquitoes are biting. There are four rooms in the cottage - two bedrooms, one with a full size bed and one with two twin beds; one bathroom with shower stall; the fourth room is a kitchen/dining/living room. Everything worked fine - gas grill on the deck, all kitchen appliances and cozy little gas fireplace. The cottage is clean and well stocked; Joe even provided coffee. The kitchen is fully equipped, just bring your food.
Not sure why the VRBO listed price and the owner's requested price didn't match; we were required to pay more than the listed price.
Parking is across the road, but easily to get to. From the road to the front door, there are about ten steps down to the front door, so this place is not for anyone who can't travel stairs.
The weather was excellent for our one week stay. Only a 20 minute drive into Traverse City. Lots of good bicycling, winery tours, scenic views and fruit stands on the Peninsula. We enjoyed our vacation.
Lovely little cottage on West Bay of Traverse City on peninsula. Clean, well furnished, updated...more than I expected! Water was very high this year, so we could not really sit at lakeside, but the deck overlooking water was great. The only reason I did not give this a 5 star is because the access to cottage is down a set of stairs that was somewhat overgrown and buggy...same for area around cottage--could have used some trimming/upkeep of outdoor area. But the house was just fine! Loved our stay there and have already booked for next year!
Many wineries & restaurant's in the immediate area/
