Orvieto Apartment Rental Photos and Description

2 bed, 1 bath, sleeps 4

Buon Giorno e Benvenuto!

Hello and welcome to 'Casa delle Case' - our charming 2-bedroom villa apartment located in the spectacular medieval hilltop town of Orvieto.

Located in Orvieto’s oldest and most charming neighborhood of San Giovanale, 'Casa delle Case' offers stunning panoramic views of the sun-drenched Tufa rock wall on which the medieval city was built.

The apartment is spacious in size. At over 700 square feet spread out on 1 level, it comfortably accommodates 1-4 persons.

The open floor plan is bright and airy and is comprised of a living room, dining room, full-sized kitchen, 2 bedrooms, 1 bath and a home office.

With careful attention to detail, the renovation of 'Casa delle Case' was recently completed in 2014 and offers guests the modern conveniences of today, yet incorporates antiquities and Umbrian country décor that retains the Italian charm of yesteryear!

The apartment is immaculately furnished and comes with most everything needed for a short or long-term stay. The kitchen will appeal to the most discriminating of chefs. With a professional, 5-burner gas range and stocked with all the dinnerware, glassware, pots, pans, utensils and small appliances needed to prepare simple antipasto or a full-fledged 5-course Italian meal.

In the master bedroom, a European matrimoniale (queen) bed awaits your slumber and in the guest bedroom, 2 European singolo (twin) beds offer maximum options for any sleeping arrangement.

You’ll find high quality linens for bed, bath and beyond, along with terrycloth robes, and a hair-dryer for your convenience.

Wi-Fi is supplied for free from the home office and its signal covers the entire apartment – perfect for watching TV or streaming music on any personal electronic device in any room.

Orvieto is one of the principal sights of the region of Umbria. Its situation is marvelous - perched high above tufa cliffs - showing traces of every phase of history for the past 3 thousand years. 'Casa delle Case' is the perfect base from which to explore the splendor of not only Orvieto but of the Umbrian countryside as well.

Only a few minutes walk from the apartment is the spectacular 14th Century Duomo (cathedral), known for its gleaming mosaic-covered facade it’s one of Italy's top Romanesque - Gothic masterpieces.

The tufa butte on which Orvieto is located is itself riddled with caves and wells dating from Etruscan times to only a couple of hundred years ago. The most spectacular of these is the Pozzo di San Patrizio, a deep well with a double spiral staircase leading to the water source at its base. It dates from 1537 and is 62 m deep. Above ground the streets are lined with shops and cafés where an espresso or caffe latte or cappuccino awaits your call. If something more substantial is on your menu, the collection of excellent Italian restaurants will certainly fit the bill.

'Casa delle Case’s' central location makes it easy for guests to get out and explore the beautiful unspoiled rural regions that Umbria and Tuscany have to offer. From the peaceful Lake Bolsena, to the many other historic hilltop towns, this area boasts many excellent wineries, and groves of olives, grapes and truffles flow over the softly rolling hills.

For ALL of this 'Casa delle Case' will be your home away from home!

Guestbook comments from the owner

I'd like to add my 2 cents to Gary's comments. I agree with everything he said, but also want to thank you so much for having the binder at the apartment. It really helped to have all of the information in one place for easy reference, and especially to have emergency contact information. In other places, I've had to research what we would dial in case of fire or medical emergency. You made it easy. And I can't tell you how many European washing machines we have struggled to work with; having clear instructions in English made all the difference.

Lastly, it was a pleasure meeting Toni and having her available to answer any questions and deal with any problems. She is warm and approachable, and just knowing we had a contact in the city gave an additional level of comfort that is much appreciated.

Seeing all the details you thought of made me feel that we're so alike (except you're better at decorating) that we would be friends if we ever met. If we could rent properties from you in our other destinations, we would certainly be happy campers.

Thanks for all of your efforts,

Lovely apartment in Orvieto

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week in Orvieto in this lovely apartment. We were greeted by Hannah and she showed us how everything worked and also answered a few travel related questions by email during our stay. The apartment is a perfect spot to relax after a long day of walking. The area is extremely quiet with beautiful views. On several evenings we took a walk to the walls just behind the villa and enjoyed spectacular sunsets. The villa is well equipped for cooking and we enjoyed shopping at the market and then preparing the fresh food. There is lots to do in Orvieto itself and is a central location for day trips as well. We look forward to returning to this town and apartment again. If you visit, be sure to get the Orvieto pass - well worth the money.

Very good.Exactly what it claims to be

  • 5 of 5

We spent ten days in Nancy Singleton Case's flat, including two days in Rome (in easy reach by train). The flat is comfortably furnished and equipped, with everything we needed. It has a delightful outlook over the roofs and jasmine-filled gardens of the centro storico of the city, with a stunning view of Orvieto's perimeter cliffs beyond and behind. Orvieto is inexhaustibly interesting and attractive; a combination of Etruscan and medieval which has changed remarkably little over the years. For help in emergencies (we didn't have any) and local advice generally guests are admirably supported by Hannah

Armbrust. Altogether a most enjoyable holiday. Jo and Liz Carey

beautifull appartment

  • 5 of 5

The app. is lovely, cozy, well maintained, practical, clean, wellcoming, furnished with good taste,, a great place to stay in orvieto.

We'll recommend the app. to friends.

The listing description was accurate regarding the location, layout, amenities.

Would appriciate if there would be a safe in the appartment.

We stayed in orvieto enjoying the jazz festival (third time). The festival was great and coming back to the app. between concerts and especially in the cold nights was great as the app. was near and easy to reach, warm and wellcoming.

A great and lovely experience!

We loved the apartment and plan on returning for a longer stay!

  • 5 of 5

From the beginning, the owner was very helpful with our booking and other arrangements. The Apartment is in the oldest part of town, easy to walk to, quiet and with outstanding vistas. It is exactly as it appears in the photos and is very well taken care of. Hannah, the property manager, was there to welcome us and gave us some wonderful suggestions on where to dine. She and her husband, Federico Badia, have a shop on Via Garibaldi where they make leather goods such as shoes, handbags, wallets etc. We had several items made for us while we were there. It was our first visit to Orvieto- what a charming town! I suggest purchasing the Carta Unica to see all the sights. The Ceramics are beautiful, we bought at Silvana, Fravolini, and Giacomini which was our favorite. Walk the Anello Della Rupe (ring around the rock) with an entry near the apartment. It's about 1.5 miles and quite easy. Our fav eating spots were Trattorio Del Moro- try the pasta nidi, Il Cocco, Trattoria La Grotto, and Cibus- Sicilian fish dishes. No one prepares fish like they do. The tuna entree and octopus salad, outstanding. The wine bar- Vin Caffe nearby on Via Filippeschi had great wines and good food. Orvieto is great art, Etruscan history, ceramics, outstanding food and wine in a beautiful part of Umbria.

The highlight of our trip to Italy

  • 5 of 5

Oh, how we loved Casa delle Case! My two sisters and I spent two weeks here and loved every single minute. What a beautiful, large, comfortable apartment, and its wonderful kitchen with basic items to help us cook up a treat, Italian-style. We loved the wide open windows looking out onto the magnificent tufa-stone walls - Orvieto is exceptional and welcoming and we could not have had a more wonderful holiday. Casa delle Case was our base for the two weeks. Its location was a brilliant walk to the funicular from which we travelled to Florence, Milan, Venice... And then we got to come 'home' again, over and over. For the holiday of a lifetime, this lovely apartment is the place to stay and Orvieto is the place to be. It will help to travel light though, to get those bags up the stairs (when will we ever learn?) A big thanks to Toni who was always on hand to solve anything we couldn't figure out for ourselves. And to Nancy and Rob for providing this wonderful place. We look forward with great pleasure to coming again one day.

Car: not necessary

Orvieto is centrally located in Italy’s Umbria region. It sits alongside the Autostrada A-1 (the spinal cord of the country’s highway system connecting Milan and Naples) so it’s easily accessible by car or train (only 1 hour on the regional train line between Rome Termini and Florence/Santa Maria Novella).

If Arriving By Train…

From outside Orvieto’s train station take the funicolare (funicular rail car) that runs every 10 minutes up to town. From Piazza Cahen take the picturesque 15-minute stroll up the Corso Cavour to the historical center or hop on the bus that drops visitors off at the Duomo or Piazza della Repubblica. Casa delle Case is just a short walk from the center of town.

If Arriving By Car…

There are several parking lots in town, but the closest to Casa delle Case and easiest to access is the Forum Boario lot on the western end of the town, accessible from the Strada della Stazione to Via delle Conce. This lot offers both open and covered garage parking and has an escalator (scala mobile) or elevator (ascensore) up to the center of town.

Must Sees…

Duomo di Orvieto - This 14th century Roman Catholic Cathedral is one of the most spectacular and important in Italy. Its Capello di Madonna di San Brizio contains Luca Signorelli’s (c. 1445 –1523) Last Judgment, considered by many to be his masterpiece.

Orvieto Underground - This tour leads you through an utterly fascinating subterranean network of medieval caves, tunnels and Etruscan wells.

Torre del Moro - The 13th century clock tower chimes on the hour, half and quarter hours, so you’ll never need a wristwatch. Climb the 270 stairs to the top for a bird’s eye view of Orvieto’s terracotta rooftops and surrounding countryside.

Pozzo di San Patrizio (St. Patrick’s Well) - Dating back to 1537, the largest of the town’s subterranean wells measures 62-meters-deep and has two spiral staircases, one for descending and one for ascending, that provided residents essential access to the water source at its base.

Crocifisso del Tufo Etruscan Necropolis (Etruscan Tombs) - One of only two Etruscan necropolises in Umbria, it dates back to the mid-6th century B.C. and is an enlightening example of the engineering superiority of this ancient but highly advanced civilization.
