About Martin Hering

Our family lives in Florida and goes to Deer Valley every March during our children's Spring Break and then most of the summer. It is our favorite place to ski in the winters and to enjoy the outdoors during the summer and fall. We hope you can enjoy our home and see why more families choose our town home than almost any other property in Deer Valley (over 90% occupancy compared to average occupancy rate of under 50% for comparable properties).

Why Martin Hering chose Utah

We looked at dozens of properties in Deer Valley and the Ridge at Silver Lake community stood out far ahead of every other property. Why? It is an easy 5 minute walk to the slopes of Upper Deer Valley. Upper Deer Valley also called Silver Lake is the mid-mountain area of Deer Valley and so it is much less crowded than lower Deer Valley (also known as Snow Park). Only the guests and owners in Silver Lake start out their skiing here so it is much more enjoyable to begin your ski day here. Also, there are 9 wonderful restaurants within walking distance (including Stein Eriksen's, Mariposa, and Goldener Hirsch) along with shops within the Silver Lake Village area. In Snow Park there are no restaurants to walk to and enjoy so when the slopes are closed you must drive to downtown Park City for dining.

A few other notes. Our town home is close to the slopes yet is off the main road so it offers privacy along with fantastic views of the slopes of Deer Valley. It is also an easy 1.9 mile drive down to Park City's main street. Salt Lake City is an easy 30-40 minute drive and there are many direct flights to cities around the country. This easy access was a big reason that Salt Lake City and Deer Valley hosted the Winter Olympics. Also, there are many choices for enjoying other nearby ski resorts Park City Mountain Resort, The Canyons, Snowbird, Alta, Brighton, Solitude, Snowbasin, Sundance, Powder Mountain, and Wolf Mountain.

What makes this townhome unique

Our property is literally a 5 minute walk from the Silver Lake Village, mid-mountain slopes of Deer Valley, numerous wonderful restaurants, and the spa at Stein Eriksen Lodge. It also has plenty of space allowing our children to play outside during the winter as well as the summer (we spend two months during the summer here every year). It is very private yet so close to the mountain, downtown Park City (1.9 mile drive) and Salt Lake City International Airport (30-40 minutes).

Out townhome has been remodeled completely from top to bottom (unlike most other properties which are often quite dated). We cater to families with children (unlike most other properties in the area). We also can help our guests get access to the best ski rental equipment, and discounted lift tickets.

This has been the most memorable of all!! I was in and out of that hot tub with my grandchildren. I slept downstairs in the bunk bed with them, etc., etc.

The Hering unit is very spacious and very well appointed. They have tried to make it as close to your own home environment as possible including internet, food supplie and the like. Our family thought it was among the best properties we have stayed at across many locales. There are some drawbacks, however. Though advertised as ski-in/ski-out, you have either a 7 or 8 minute walk to Silver Lake Lodge or a walk to a downhill trail from which you cannot return. I guess the definition of ski-in/ski-out may vary, but you will not be able to leave the unit and put on your skis within a few feet of the door. The larger beds were very soft, but that is, of course, a matter of taste. Finally, the management company was not as responsive as it should have been to problems. These problems combined do not make the unit at all undesirable, but one should reflect upon them before contracting.

Owner's Response: Our Ridge town home is an easy 5 minute walk from Silver Lake Lodge and the mid mountain slopes of Deer Valley. There is a ski access trail 2 minutes walk from our property. It is not ski-in/ski-out nor promoted that way. We do own a ski-in/ski-out residence which can be accessed on the VRBO web site as listing 68593. In regards to our mattresses they are all newly purchased and have excellent support. We did make a change in our management company for the 2007-08 ski season and the reviews from guests have been excellent.

One of the best ski vacations we have ever had. The owners checked in on us several times to make sure that everything was going well and had several recommendations to make sure we had the best vacation! We will definitely be coming back and would recommend it to anyone wanting a get away!!!

Great Summer Get-away!

My family had a wonderful vacation in Park City, UT! This was our first trip to Utah, and we were amazed at all of the fun things to do in and around Park City. Everyday was a true treat, from driving around and seeing the majestic mountains, to hiking, watching bicyclers, riding the ski lifts, and poking around on historic Main Street. There are a couple of lodges within walking distance (a block away) that have shops, spas, eateries, etc. Martin, the owner, gave us some great recommendations for restaurants in the area and every place we ate was really tasty! The kitchen in the condo is very well-appointed from pots, pans, cooking ware, and even spices - so, if you like to cook, you are in luck! There were lots of little special touches in this unit, including maps, tourist destinations, puzzles, games, books, videos, and even toys for the little ones. There is a bedroom on each level of the unit, which gave everyone plenty of privacy, room to stretch out, and peace/quiet for naps (which we thoroughly enjoyed). With a washer & dryer in the unit, we were able to pack light, saving room in our suitcase for souvenirs from our trip. This condo had everything we needed to have a nice, relaxing vacation. We are already thinking of returning next year!

Wonderful Last Minute Accomodation

Our family had booked several locations using the Home Away website for a 4th of July weekend and last minute both of the properties cancelled on us without any notice or explanation. Needless to say we were incredibly frustrated! We had looked at this property in the beginning but decided initially not to go with it as we wanted something right on Main Street in Old Park City. The day before, upon the other property canceling, I contacted Martin to see if his property was still available. I have to say not only was he responsive, but he was so incredibly friendly and accommodating. He gave us clear instructions on how to check in, and everything was exactly as the listing had said.

We have 6 children all under the age of 10, and they enjoyed playing with the toys provided, the xbox, and all of the movies on hand. I truly felt at home with all of the added extras provided. One of my favorite things about this location was the fact that all 3 bedrooms are on separate floors allowing for a lot of privacy, and a great place for two separate families to stay. The layout of the home was perfect for us and it was close enough to town and the free shuttle that we didn't have to worry about driving and parking during a very busy weekend.

We will be staying at this property again because of the way we were treated and Martin's fine attention to the little details that made our trip so much easier and so much more enjoyable.

Owner's Response: It can be very challenging finding the right property for your family. There are so many choices on VRBO and often they all start looking alike. They are not however all alike as our recent guest just found out. Custom service often is Customer-no service and the guests get caught in bad situations. We focus on making our guests needs the top priority. We were very happy to accommodate this wonderful family in our spacious luxury family-friendly town home in the quiet Silver Lake/mid-mountain area of Deer Valley for an enjoyable long Holiday weekend stay. In choosing your property from VRBO we suggest that prospective guests look at the longevity of the property listing (how long has the listing been on VRBO), the guestbook comments (are they positive and are there more than just a few comments), the photos (do they show the maximum of 24 photos and are they of high quality) and the pricing (is it in line with other similar properties - if it is much reduced there is usually a reason). If our homes (we own 2 homes in Deer Valley - listing 68593 is the second) are booked for a guests requested dates we would be happy to help them find another nice property. Over the years we have helped many guests with other lodging in Deer Valley with happy results. Many have also come back to stay in one of our properties in future years because they enjoy the personal attention to detail and helpful service. We look forward to again sharing our home with this wonderful family.

Outstanding value for top/ top quality

I have traveled a great deal and it is a rare occasion to find such beautiful scenery, highest of quality finish of build-out, and virtually everything needed to have a most memorable experience. My wife and friends truly adored this condominium and look forward to returning next year. There is nothing else quite as nice as our time spent here. We love everything about the personal touches by the owners of this property.

Deer Valley Condo

My family of 6 adults stayed in this unit while in the area for a wedding at the Stein Ericson Lodge, a short walk away. The unit is extremely spacious, well-appointed and comfortable; it easily accommodated 6 adults getting ready for a wedding. The kitchen is very well-equipped and the living areas inviting and convenient. It was a wonderful place to retreat to between events and sightseeing excursions. All of our expectations were exceeded; it was just perfect!

Our home is very spacious (over 2200 square feet in size) and the layout is very well planned so that it offers privacy and also plenty of space to enjoy time together. The location is perfect, only five minutes from the mid mountain Deer Valley slopes. Plus you can easily walk to Stein Eriksen Lodge for a wonderful spa and dining experience. There are a total of 9 wonderful restaurants in the Silver Lake area and all are outstanding. Find out what local real estate experts have been saying for years - the Silver Lake area of Deer Valley is the best kept secret of of area. Easy access to the slopes, dining, Silver Lake Lodge, no crowds unlike in Snow Park (lower Deer Valley), and only 2 miles from Main Street.
