The conception of “The Blue Buck on 72″ was an idea developed and constructed through the vision and passion of Julie and Paul Varchetti. As a lifelong “Down-stater”, Julie has returned to her family’s roots in Northern Michigan. Julie’s grandmother, Evelyn, was one of the original cooks for Dingman’s Bar and her father grew up on Bear Lake in the 1950′s. Although having grown up downstate, Julie and her husband, Paul, decided to head north and have their summer home on Cub Lake. Julie also owns and operates “Full Circle Resorts” in Bear Lake Township which is conveniently located next to the convenient store “ The Blue Buck on 72″ that features 2 beautifully renovated cabins, a large home on Cub Lake and 2 RV sites which can accommodate up to 42 foot motorhomes and offer full service hook-up.
Paul Varchetti purchased this cabin in 2013
Bear Lake Township of Kalkaska, MI is still Michigan's little secret. It's so peaceful and so quiet, yet there is so much to do all year round. From Boating, to hunting to could never get bored here. Come see God's Country for yourself. It's truly amazing.
We are just down the street from cub lake and bear lake. Next door great breakfast café (Shirley's Diner), a grocery store (The Blue Buck on 72) and an old country bar, Dingman's. We are also right by some of the greatest trail heads for all of your snowmobiling, Hunting and ATV Riding.
This place was great for two of us that came up for three days of snowmobiling. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. The trail is right across the road, with a gas station less than a mile away. Thanks!
The cottage was a perfect location for 4 wheeling. The trail started across the road from the cottage and went for miles. It has a wonderful fire pit in the back that is shared by another cottage . The cottage was VERY clean and cute. The only problem was it's right on HWY 72 and that means the traffic is non stop. (But....you can't hear the sounds in the cottage). I'm glad we brought our own grill because the grills they have aren't very good. If it wasn't for the hwy, this little gem is perfect!
This was exactly as pictured. We loved the firepit. It was clean and new remodeled. Would definitely stay here again.
The cabin was quaint, clean and comfortable. We could not find beach access on Friday when we arrived, so we gave up. The two lakes had boat access, but no beaches that we could find.
We stayed to go back and forth to Traverse City for the Film Festival. It was a little too far to commute, so we had to skip our Sunday film and head home. I wish I would have seen the description of the location to map out exactly where the cabin was -- thought it was in downtown Kalkaska or at least closer to it.
Property is awesome and location could not be more convenient. Located between a restaurant and party store with a bar across the street! Owners spared no expense renovating and the large fire pit is a great touch. Horse shoe pits, volleyball, this place is GREAT!!

We are located right on the corner of West Bear Lake Road and M-72NE. We have The Blue Buck on 72 on one side of us and Shirley's Café on the other side. Across the street is the trail head, which leads you to over 100 miles for snowmobiling in the winter, hunting during the season, dirk-biking or 4 wheeling in the summer. We are just .4 miles from 2 of the many lakes in Kalkaska. Cub Lake is known for the quietness and fishing. Bear Lake is a fun/All sports Lake and is also the 2nd clearest lake in the entire state of Michigan!! It looks as if you are in the islands...it's breathtaking.
