A Unique Luxury Bahamas Villa
KettleStone is a spectacular ocean-front Villa on the beautifully serene "family island" of Andros in The Bahamas. Nestled in the coastal canopy only minutes from amenities, it is the epitome of a secluded holiday home.
KettleStone is comprised of a central living area, CedarTop, which contains the open concept living and dining areas, central kitchen, and a radial stone staircase leads to a loft bedroom suite with bath, named Morgan's Loft after the infamous Captain Morgan, whose stories are an intrinsic part of this island's lore. CedarTop is complimented by two additional bedroom suites, CayView and Sunrise, each offering an amazing panoramic view of the ocean and large ensuite baths complete with double door shower.
KettleStone is equipped with all modern amenities, and has a fresh water swimming pool, waterfall and jetted spa in addition to steps going straight into the ocean lagoon or onto the newly constructed dock. Enjoy the warm soothing firelight from our outdoor fire-on-glass fireplace or mix your favorite beverage at the outdoor kitchen and bar.
Grill-masters can enjoy the palapa covered grill station complete with its own lighting system.
There are plenty of activities on the island, and on the property to satisfy everyone in a family or friends group. In addition to relaxing and soaking the sun, there is scuba diving, fishing (bone-fishing, reef fishing, and deep sea fishing), birding, blue hole explorations, snorkeling, swimming, and shopping. Comprised of one acre of mature landscaped grounds, KettleStone is the ideal place to unwind.
Begin your day with breath-taking sunrises from the terraces, or the private dock palapa!
KettleStone was conceived, built and is owned by Michael Hornby ... formally of Gravenhurst, Ontario, Canada. Michael first discovered Andros Island in 1988 on a diving vacation and in 1997, in pursuit of his passion for scuba diving and a simpler lifestyle took the plunge literally and moved to the Bahamas.
Michael currently lives on Andros Island and manages a local all-inclusive resort as well as owning and managing KettleStone.
No stranger to the hospitality industry, in addition to being a Technical and Recreational Diving Instructor, Michael enjoys Blue Hole cave diving, deep wall diving and is a private pilot and boat captain.
After 19 years of living on Andros, the love for the simplicity of the environment and the friendliness of local inhabitants continues to grow.
Michael envisioned building a warm and welcoming luxury home that showcased the natural island beauty, and with a strict attention to detail it had to offer barefoot elegance that could be shared with others.
With this vision in mind, Michael built KettleStone without compromise.
Michael Hornby purchased this villa in 2004
Situated on one acre … KettleStone land was chosen from years of local island research and a great stroke of opportunity which involved being offered the ideal virgin land from which to commence construction.
Saving as much natural flora as possible was paramount, so carefully the land was hand cleared to preserve mature natural growth.
Minutes from amenities, an international airport only a mere one hour flight from Florida and 5 minutes from a port of entry marina ... the location was ideal. A barrier island chain, shallow lagoon and sufficient elevation to provide a panoramic view and offer cooling breezes ... KettleStone had found its beginning.
KettleStone was built with attention to detail.
Named for the 'Kettle' formations at waters edge and expansive use of hand crafted local 'Stone' ... hand cut limestone ocean-side terraces and poolside patios enable you to take an ocean swim/snorkel to be followed by a dip in the freshwater pool or jetted spa and sun-bathe to the sound of the cascading waterfall.
High vaulted open cedar ceilings and an open concept design gives KettleStone a sense of spaciousness and participation with nature.
Panoramic views from each suite and the centrally located kitchen enable you to appreciate were you are at all times.
Fully landscaped grounds, sheltered breezeways and back patio enable you to enjoy nature front and back.
The spectacular sunrises have to be seen to be believed.
Welcome to KettleStone!
We were travelling with our extended family of 2 adults 65+, 4 adults 40+ and 2 children 11 & 13. We had been in touch with Michael many times prior to our trip to arrange details. He was always attentive, prompt and very helpful. We charted a flight from Nassau airport for all eight of us to the Fresh Creek airport (12 minute flight). There are cabs at the airport and we took two of them to get to KettleStone which is a short 10 minute drive. Michael and two staff greeted us upon arrival and gave us a guided tour of the property. The property is excellent for families as two of the bedrooms are separate suites - complete with a mini kitchen with a bar fridge, coffee maker and table for two. The washrooms are enormous with double sinks and a very spacious rain shower. The finishes are exceptional. The high cedar ceilings make each room feel even bigger. There are single beds that can be put into each suite for additional sleeping. The main house kitchen and finishes are all very high end. We did cook many of our breakfasts and lunches and found everything we needed.
The staff were on site daily and were extremely kind and helpful, going above and beyond to meet our needs. We ordered groceries ahead of time through Michael and our food arrived around 3 p.m. the day of our arrival. Michael touched base with us daily to ensure that we had everything we needed and that our activities for day were arranged successfully. He arranged a rental car for us as well as assisted with daily activity planning. Michael also arranged for us to have local chefs come in nightly to prepare dinners, predominantly seafood and Bahamian cuisine which was absolutely incredible. You also have the choice for other menu options.
We spent endless hours in the pool, hot tub and on the dock fishing. The hand carved stone work on the deck and the new dock add so much to the uniqueness of the property. You can enter the water from the dock area and snorkel with Bruce the Baracuda (don't worry he's friendly) around the dock and shoreline where you can find starfish, conch, stingrays, etc.
We had an exceptional experience at KettleStone and we never had to worry about a thing. We have travelled a lot and this place is one of our favourites. Michael and his staff take the time to talk to you about KettleStone, Andros Island and make sure your stay is comfortable and memorable. We can't wait until our next visit.
This rental property is right out of magazine. The house is stunning, the surroundings are magnificent. The people working there and sunning things are beyond lovely. Truly not one detail was left out and you feel like you are on a movie set.
Superb home in superb location. Host and assistants first class in every way. Every request handled perfectly. The home comes with everything you need. Spacious and comfortable.
Be sure to request groceries pre-arrival, not much of a grocery shopping option, but host will handle before and/or during stay. In house chef fantastic.
Can't wait to return.
Kettlestone is a very special home. I use the term home rather vacation rental because from the moment you walk in you feel relaxed and comfortable. Everything has been thoroughly thought through by the owner Mike. After spending a week there I am at a loss to think of anything I would change or add to the house. The kitchen is extremely well equipped although there is little reason to spend much time there as Mike will arrange a chef to make absolutely amazing dinners that a Five Star restaurant would have trouble competing with. The staff will go out of their way to make sure your every whim is taken of and they keep the villa impeccably clean. The view of the ocean from the villa is absolutely amazing and down on the beautiful dock that Mike has recently constructed all types of fish can be seen. If you are looking for an extremely relaxing vacation, away from tourists, in one of the most beautiful places on earth this is your villa. Mike is one of the nicest guys I have met and will take care of any request such as your charter flight, restaurants, or diving at Small Hope Bay Lodge.
Kettlestone is as beautiful and relaxing as it was on our two previous visits. It is amazing that the inside seems as expansive as the outside and that the clear blue waters of the Caribbean are right in our back yard. We love the new dock. If a dock can be beautiful, this one qualifies and was a great place to sit under the palapa, feel the ocean breezes, and watch some lazy waves. On this visit, we enjoyed the cooking talent and delightful personalities of Androsians who came to cook (and clean up!) for us on a couple of special evenings. And, once again, we appreciated being able to scuba dive the Andros reefs with the staff at nearby Small Hope Bay Lodge. It is incredible that Kettlestone's villa and property seem unphased by Hurricane Matthew; it's testimony to the expertise that owner Mike Hornby applied in building Kettlestone and in seriously preparing for the recent storm. Thanks again, Mike and Page, for another very special vacation in your home!
My family has traveled throughout the Caribbean many times and have yet to stay at a home as great as Kettlestone. Mike was always available to answer any questions before we arrived and throughout our stay. The home has absolutely everything you need and more. Would definitely recommend this home to anyone.
The KettleStone Villa offers panoramic views and direct entry onto a sand bottom lagoon enhanced by a necklace of cays framing the Bahamas famed turquoise waters. Enjoy snorkeling, kayaking, wading and swimming right off the seaside terrace, or fish off our newly constructed dock. Miles of secluded beaches are very near the property.
Take one or more of our kayaks to the sugar sand beach on nearby Goat Cay minutes from the villa and enjoy a picnic while there, or snorkel the Andros Barrier Reef corals.
If you enjoy scuba diving or reef snorkeling, there is a professional dive center at a local resort only 3 miles from the villa. More experienced divers can enjoy the famous wall of the Tongue of the Ocean or even diving in one of our numerous Blue Holes.
Enjoy spending moonlit nights under the dock's authentic thatch palapa or engaging in intimate conversation seated in one of the several ocean-side terraces...the choice is yours to make.
Andros is abundant with miles of secluded public beaches minutes from the villa ideal for beach-combing, shelling and flats fishing. Fresh Creek is just around the corner from the villa and you can explore the creek and surrounding waters in a small skiff rented from Hank's place 5 blocks away from KettleStone.
Whether you choose organized eco-tours, bird-watching, guided bone fishing, reef or deep sea fishing there are qualified guides we can arrange for you. If an unstructured vacation is more to your liking ... simply explore the island and local settlements at your own pace. Travel is easy and the island is very friendly.
Be sure to visit the local Batik factory and outlet store to check out the hand dyed patterns that make Androsia the unofficial fabric of the Bahamas.
