Upper East Side-Yorkville: Located along the East River in the Upper East Side, Yorkville is a relaxed, ethnically diverse neighborhood with a rich history. The neighborhood is noted for its coffee shops and pubs, as well as its rich heritage. However, Yorkville maintains its status as a quiet community (featuring several beautiful brownstones from the turn of the century, many with wonderful wrought iron railings) centered around Carl Schurz Park, an oasis of calm along the East River. Carl Schurz Park is the jewel of Yorkville. Not far from the corner of 86th Street and East End Avenue, the park sits adjacent to Gracie Mansion (the official residence of the New York City mayor), a multi-tiered riot of flowers, grass and trees, with shady nooks and grassy hillocks tied together with wending pathways and staircases of stone. Other landmarks in the neighborhood include Brandy's Saloon, which is a piano bar on 84th street dating back to the 1920s and the speakeasy era. Noted nightlife spots in the area include the aforementioned Heidelberg, as well as Tony Di Napoli, Vespa, Paola's and the East End Bar and Grill (a classic Irish pub with a brass and wood bar). The Auction House and the Trinity Pub provide additional venues for an evening's entertainment, focusing more on the club aspect. A number of novels have also been set in Yorkville, or mention the historic neighborhood. In The Godfather Returns and The Godfather's Revenge, Michael Corleone maintains a penthouse in Yorkville. Other, less fictional, residents of the area include the marx Brothers, who lived on 93rd street, Macauley Culkin, who was born in Yorkville, and Barack Obama, who lived in Yorkville in the early 1980s. The neighborhood is convenient to the MTA subway's green line (4, 5, 6) and crosstown buses which run along 79th, 86th and 96th streets.
Apartment as pictured. Roomy for NY apt. Clean and well maintained. Loved the area, great experience.
My experience was ok, nothing great. The bathroom receives a poor review, the door didn't lock, there was a tissue in the lock for it to close properly, bathtub with hair that I had to clean, surface slippery with no anti-slip gadgets available. The air conditioner in the room had a weird smell, so we only turned on the living room one and left the door open. These are easily repairable things. Great neighborhood, close to Whole Foods, metro station, restaurants.
We had a nice stay here - it was a great location, good size for two adults and two kids, and close to tons of restaurants and public transit. Ilija was a nice host, and even delivered items we left behind to my family who lived a few blocks away. We appreciated the care he took in being a great host.
The apartment is truly spacious and is in a great location. It is walkable distance to Central Park, and close to the subway. Illia was super helpful and friendly, he made sure we were made comfortable and we had everything we needed to make the stay comfortable. I do recommend this place to anyone who is planning a getaway in New York. The place can accommodate 4 people no problem. Getting to La Guardia airport is very easy and hassle free.
First experience, owner was flexible with payment(i overnighted a check he doesn't take AMEX and negotiated price). I had an email stating i could check in early (my flight landed 7a.m.) he agreed 10 a.m. would work. He text later and said 1p.m. He reminded that per the VRBO listing that check in was much later. We actually ended up in the apartment late p.m. When he was ready to give the keys he actually was overly persistent AND were inconviencing him. He came to the location where I WAS. HE NOW was agressive to pass the keys to us so he could go on about his evening. My experience, no regards for my time or inconvience. When arrived 'cute and quaint' apartment great location. I had asked him If i could extend the stay 1 night, he agreed checking out on the 25th. When he wanted to get a hold of me he text and called numerous times, no problem connecting. He let me know on the 24th that he made a mistake and his guest were needing access to aprtment at 4a.m. and i needed to be out. He is a realEstate guy and assured me he could help me find a new location. Admittedly he appeared to help,(not sure if true or not) to no avail. I am a gal traveling solo with no where to go. I spent the entire day at David Bartons Gym trying to find a place to stay last minue in Manhattan. My budget already tight(he knew this) I was solo. As we already know filing a descrepancy is a NO win, so I am left giving feedback on this site. When I left apartment I confirmed with him that I left my phone charger, he 'put in writing to me he would get back to me in the a.m. and confirmed he had it. I have a galaxy note about $60 to replce. After several calls and text, he no showed and no response. Being home now he never had the courtesy to even mail. My2 cents.......he is ON point to MAKE MONEY and fill his space up, everday in everyway to satisfy his needs. He overpromised and underdelivered 1. on check in time 2. on check out time 3. finding me a space 4. returning my belongings. He says great things like Good Karma, stay positive, initially feeling like he was caring. All the while, he made it work for HIM, on HIS terms. I had the email from him approving extension of time, early check in and a text confirming the return of my things, to no avail. Keep in mind, he doesnt wash the comforters or the blankets "only the sheets". The people who stay prior he only had enough time to take out garbage. Cleanliness, fair. I actually cleaned up. GOOD LUCK
We stayed here with 2 daughters (aged 21 and 23) who didn't mind sharing the bed settee! Good location only 10 minutes walk from Central Park and museums. Only 5 minutes to subway and nice pancake place just on the corner:-) Seemed a very safe neighbourhood and we enjoyed our stay. Our host was excellent, met us when we arrived, explained everything, and was there to see us off.
