we had a 50th birthday party.
with 18 overnight guests, around 30 at the birthday party.
both were a huge success. we could not have asked for more.
For being the cottage on the property is was just fine for our family of 4. The inside of the cottage was nicely appointed and the outside decks, especially the upstairs deck was great for viewing the stars. The entertainment systems was nice as well since we could use the HDMI cable to connect to our laptop.
A few items to be aware of:
1. We had gotten lucky that the main house was not being rented as the coordination with kayaks and general grounds may have been a bit akward. Also only two of the kayaks didn't leak, which was okay with us since we only used two.
2. Kitchen ware is a bit sparse. For plates I would recommend bringing paper plates. Limited spices and cookingware in general is at a minimum.
3. Bring your own paper towels, toliet paper and kitchen size garbage bags (something that is requested of you).
Had a great time playing in the grass, water and beach area.
Thanks for bringing your family out to beautiful Lakebay Washington. Thanks for the heads up on the Kayaks. They have been repaired. Always nice to get this kind of feedback. The best remedy to having to share the kayaks is to book all 3 houses :) Really though it is amazing how friendly everyone we've hosted is.
Beautiful property on the lake!
We had the absolute best time at wisteria hollow. It was a beautiful cozy cottage. It was relaxing and peaceful. We enjoyed getting up early and kayaking on the lake and taking in the views of Mt. Rainier. During lowtide, we dug for clams and oysters right off the beach and cooked them up on the BBQ grill. We made friends at the local grocery store, where they have a growler station that we refilled every night with northwest beer. We will definitely be back.
Thanks Maricel! Glad you could make the trip up from Las Vegas. Our lakebay homes are very special. This is such a unique rural community that is so welcoming and beautiful.
Maintenance needed on this beautiful property
Let me start by saying that the main house and the cottage are in a beautiful setting. The cottage is roomy and well furnished. However, upon arrival, when I went to turn on the heat, there was a note on the thermostat that said "Sorry for the inconvenience, the heater and fireplace in the cottage are out of order. Please use space heaters provided. Thank you, The Management." It was about 40F outside and raining, and the space heaters had not been turned on in anticipation of our arrival, so it was VERY cold in there. We were able to warm the upstairs bedroom fairly quickly because it was a smaller, enclosed area, but it took a full day before the downstairs was even mildly comfortable. If we tried to use more than one space heater downstairs, it would trip the breaker. Furthermore, there wasn't a smoke detector downstairs (it had been removed), so I was a bit nervous about having three space heaters, two children, and no smoke detector. There was a detector upstairs.
Also, the first night we were there my daughter turned on the water to take a shower, and the tub wouldn't drain at all. I spent a few minutes using a wire hanger to pull other peoples' hair out of the drain. I didn't call maintenance due to the time of night it was, and it was something I could do myself.
Lastly, the rental agreement mentions that the water has an off smell. Let me be clear: it is a very strong rotten egg smell. I'm not sure what causes it, and the owner indicates it's safe to drink, but it is strong, and every time the toilet is flushed, or the sinks or shower are turned on, the smell is released into the air. I've stayed at several beach properties (although not in this area), and this is the first time I've encountered this smell.
I admit that I didn't notify the property owner of these issues while I was there, however, the note on the thermostat indicated their awareness of the heat issue and the rental agreement indicated an awareness of the water smell.
Sorry for the inconvenience. The heater was supposed to be repaired earlier in the day before you arrived but the heating company failed to get the new part in time. We left the space heaters as a last resort just in case. I'll check with the handyman on the smoke detector.
The water is part of a well that serves several homes in the area. It is safe to drink and use and is tested frequently by the local water co-op. It is mineral rich though so bottled water or charcoal filters are a plus.
Beautiful little cottage, love the design, cozy
There were things needing fixing - a handyman was sent over immediately and a couple items were fixed, making our stay warm and relaxing. The seals were having a hay day feeding on herring or smelt! Winter in Lakebay was just fine, snow, rain, and sunny days.
Thanks for your stay Patti. Glad we could get things fixed up fast! Glad the seals put on a show for you too. They are so fun to watch.
We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful cottage with such a pretty setting and stunning views. The bed was very comfy. The only drawback for us was limited parking but we worked it out.
See you next Summer Sheila. Yes we have plenty of parking across the street at our detached garage apartment. Glad we could sort that out!
