Kathryn purchased this cottage in 1996
beautiful old home on the sound
gorgeous, on the beach you can kayak in your back yard
It was a wonderful little break. The Cottage was cozy and well appointed. Coming from the Sacramento region, we tend to forget that many places can be so lush and green. The stillness and quiet was appreciated. Your booking web site is very easy to use and well organized. Thank you for allowing us to stay in you Cottage, very nice.
Let me start by saying that the main house and the cottage are in a beautiful setting. The cottage is roomy and well furnished. However, upon arrival, when I went to turn on the heat, there was a note on the thermostat that said "Sorry for the inconvenience, the heater and fireplace in the cottage are out of order. Please use space heaters provided. Thank you, The Management." It was about 40F outside and raining, and the space heaters had not been turned on in anticipation of our arrival, so it was VERY cold in there. We were able to warm the upstairs bedroom fairly quickly because it was a smaller, enclosed area, but it took a full day before the downstairs was even mildly comfortable. If we tried to use more than one space heater downstairs, it would trip the breaker. Furthermore, there wasn't a smoke detector downstairs (it had been removed), so I was a bit nervous about having three space heaters, two children, and no smoke detector. There was a detector upstairs.
Also, the first night we were there my daughter turned on the water to take a shower, and the tub wouldn't drain at all. I spent a few minutes using a wire hanger to pull other peoples' hair out of the drain. I didn't call maintenance due to the time of night it was, and it was something I could do myself.
Lastly, the rental agreement mentions that the water has an off smell. Let me be clear: it is a very strong rotten egg smell. I'm not sure what causes it, and the owner indicates it's safe to drink, but it is strong, and every time the toilet is flushed, or the sinks or shower are turned on, the smell is released into the air. I've stayed at several beach properties (although not in this area), and this is the first time I've encountered this smell.
I admit that I didn't notify the property owner of these issues while I was there, however, the note on the thermostat indicated their awareness of the heat issue and the rental agreement indicated an awareness of the water smell.
There were things needing fixing - a handyman was sent over immediately and a couple items were fixed, making our stay warm and relaxing. The seals were having a hay day feeding on herring or smelt! Winter in Lakebay was just fine, snow, rain, and sunny days.
We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful cottage with such a pretty setting and stunning views. The bed was very comfy. The only drawback for us was limited parking but we worked it out.
The Cottage-by-the-Sea is a lovely, well appointed, clean home. We had a girls weekend for four and each of us had our own bed and had plenty of space. The property is an old estate with lots of beach front, where we had a fire looking at the stars and full moon. Beautiful!
We rented the Cottage, along with Wisteria Hollow for our family holiday celebration. What a great home! It is clean, is decorated so cute, and is right on the water. The neighborhood is so peaceful and quiet! We loved the beach, the sand dollar hunting, the kayaks and the space. The whole property is delightful, and this home was perfect for part of the family to have a little space alone. We will rent this property again!
We rented this, as well as the other properties when we stayed in March. It was so nice to be able to rent them all for our family and have plenty of space for everyone. We all look forward to coming back again
