This popular log cabin is an absolute charmer - just what you dream about when you want to experience the mountain life. Each article in this cabin was chosen with care.

All of the furniture is unique and the best quality. The house is furnished with many mountain crafts, antiques, original paintings and eclectic knick knacks. On your visit you will spend a great deal of time just walking around looking at all the details. The two bedrooms each have a comfortable queen size bed and there is an additional day bed on the main level in case you have a little extra company or child. The living room has leather sofas and hand-made tables, custom drapes, and hardwood floors. The dining room seats six with a deer antler chandelier overhanging the table.

The outside of the house is just as charming as the inside with a wrap-around porch with swings, and rockers, stick furniture and best of all the hot tub. The privacy of this location allows you to roam freely around the property and enjoy its beauty. Why Blue Ridge Vacation Cabins chose Banner Elk

We chose the cabin at Valle Crucis for several reasons. We think it has one of the very best locations in the Boone, Blowing Rock and Beach Mountain areas. The cabin offers the atmosphere of being private and secluded but with the fantastic convenience of actually being very close to the main highway. In less than a minute's drive, you have highway access to Boone, Sugar & Beech Mountains. Mast General Store is just 6-8 minutes down the road and the Blue Ridge Parkway also is very close. You can also get over to Grandfather Mountain in about 25-30 minutes as well. Given the new four lane highway 421 from Winston-Salem, the drive up to Valle Crucis is so easy for us and only 1.5 hours. In addition, the Valle Crucis cabin has a real wood burning rock fireplace. You can't beat the ambiance and experience of a real fire. Most cabins these days have gas log fireplaces.

What makes this cabin unique

We like to visit the mountains of NC a few times a year and the cabin experience is just the right 'get away' for us since we have lived in so many large cities. We like the clear air & the cool breezes are really refreshing in the summer. During the winter, our family has a very old tradition of skiing mainly in the Rockies but we started out at Appalachian Ski Mountain and Sugar & Beech Mountains in NC. All of those ski areas are only about 15 to 25 minutes from our Valle Crucis cabin and with the great artificial snow making technology in NC, we don't have to go all the way to the Rockies to continue our old Skiing tradition. Coming to the mountains really helps us to unwind.

Can't beat the location

  • 5 of 5

Valle Crucis is an excellent location for reaching Boone, Banner Elk, and even Blowing Rock (using back roads) without a long drive. This is a comfortable, well-kept cabin with a well-stocked kitchen, and lots of decking. Don't expect mountain views because it's nestled in a rhododendron thicket, but it is private from neighbors. You will hear some road noise from neighbors, though.

Furniture and beds are comfortable. Even though the property is dog friendly, you wouldn't know it! Apparently, the requirement of keeping dogs off the furniture and beds works well. Our senior Boston Terrier had a great time.

We had our own cabin in Watauga County years ago, and this house makes us miss being property owners. We plan on returning regularly!

I would recommend a deep cleaning of the cabin inside and in the porches.

Check all the bulb lights.

Order than that, everything was perfect

We would love to come back!!! 😊

A little piece of heaven

I loved the property but will never book through HomeAway again! A 7% booking fee for the renter? Really? Pure greed. I'll book directly through the property manager , thank you.

Relaxing

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hummingbird Hollow, the cabin was clean and well stocked. It is centrally located to many of the attractions that we wanted to visit such as Mast General Store, trout fishing, gem mining, and Grandfather mountain. The only thing that most people would miss was the TV. There was a new satellite dish in the yard but it wasn't connected. I called the number that was to be used if the tv didn't work, and the tech was going to come check it out but never did. This was not a big deal to us, as we had our computers to check weather and news. As a matter of fact I think our time was more relaxing without it! The hot tub has a couple of issues, took a day or 2 to heat up, and some of the blowers aren't working. All this being said, I still would recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a secluded place to relax.
