Rest, relaxation and nature can be found in the newly built holiday home in Norte. Unique view of the Pico Alto and the valley of Lagos, and the Atlantic Ocean.
This spacious bungalow has a kitchen, living room, 3 bedrooms and three bathrooms.
Here the facilities in brief:
Kitchen with 4 ring ceramic hob, electric oven (convection oven), fridge, coffee maker.
Living room with brick fireplace. Stereo and satellite TV, sofa bed for 2 persons.
Bedroom with walk-in closet. Double bed 140 x 190 cm. Sheets and towels included, of course.
Second bedroom with double bed (180 x 190 cm) and bathroom with shower.
Third bedroom with twin beds (100 x 200 cm) and single bed (90 x 190 cm) and sofa bed for 2 guests.
Covered breakfast table overlooking the sea.
Large terrace with patio character / fountain. Sitting area, sun beds and umbrella, barbecue area.
Big spring water pool without chlorine (12 x 6 m) in the immediate vicinity.
We point out that a spring water pool always has a light green color, is like in a lake and cleaning naturally by plants and gravel filters.
Our family of 7 stayed for 5 days here. The home is spacious and clean. All the comforts available for a relaxing island stay. The outdoor living spaces are fabulous! The view of the valley in the evening and the ocean in the morning. The cool ocean breeze and mist. Oh how I miss you Bea and Karl! Thank You for everything, especially the yummy Bob the Builder cake, my little boys loved it! See you again, soon I hope 😁
Vivenda Bea is fantastic and we recommend it highly.
The house is comfortable, charming and well-equipped. If you want to cook for yourself, everything you need is there and ready to go. If it is a hot day, and you are not inclined to drive 20 minutes to the ocean beach, there is a spring-fed swimming pool at your disposal. If you are empty-nesters and one or two of your children decide at the last minute that they, too, would like to see Santa Maria, there is a second bedroom and bathroom, complete with its own entrance. There is a traditional fireplace to add some romance on a cool evening.
We landed on Santa Maria at night, and Karl and Bea met us at the airport and led us to Vivenda Bea. Waking up the next morning and seeing the green mountainsides and the spectacular ocean view from Vivenda Bea was a jaw-dropping experience we will not soon forget.
But the best part of Vivenda Bea has to be Karl and Bea. They live year-round in the house next door. They are generous and considerate and have a great sense of humor. If you need anything, just say the word and they will make it appear. Originally from Germany and Austria, they are long-term year round residents of Santa Maria and can tell you as much or as little about the island as you might like to know. They enjoy socializing but will leave you alone if that is your wish. We enjoyed their company immensely.
A few things to know:
-Unless you routinely participate in marathons or triathlons and are currently in training, you will need a car. Vivenda Bea is on the opposite end of the island from the airport. The distances are too great and level stretches of road too rare to rely on walking or bicycling. There is a public bus system, but its trips to this end of the island are infrequent.
-If you decide to cook for yourself, food shopping is very easy. There is what we Americans would call a “convenience store” and café in nearby Santa Barbara and two well-stocked reasonably priced grocery stores in Vila do Porto. The food in the stores and in the restaurants is wonderful and the local Azorean wine and beer are great and very reasonably priced. The kitchen at Vivenda Bea is completely modern, well equipped, and easy to use.
-For such a small island, there is a lot to see on Santa Maria. Just seeing the highlights properly will require several days.
We were very pleased with Vivenda Bea and thoroughly enjoyed our time on Santa Maria. We hope to return soon.
Bea met us at the airport to lead us to our home for the week. We had high expectations from the pictures on her post and we were not disappointed until we had to go back to our own homes. The cottage was clean, large and rustic in appearance inside and out, yet it had all the modern conveniences and looked like new construction. The two bedrooms, each with its own bath, were at opposite ends of the cottage. Thus my wife and I were assured privacy, as was her brother. He loves to cook and his eyes gleamed when he saw the kitchen. We did not need any supplies other than groceries, as Bea had provided all the necessities. She led us to a well-stocked grocery and waited while we shopped before we went on to the cottage. With a beautiful view of a mountain valley from the back patio and an equally beautiful view of the ocean with Sao Miguel in the distance from the front patio, we really had no reason to leave the cottage for the whole week. Total relaxation was at our fingertips. However, I am not one to relax totally in a new environment. Santa Maria was too scenic to not explore. Little villages, seaside resorts with great beaches, mountains, flowers, and fabulous vistas around every corner drew me out each day. In Vila Do Porto, our favorite restaurant was the Garrouchada, where we soon learned that an order for one easily fed two. Yet every day we returned earlier to our sanctuary to relax and unwind. The peace of our cottage at the end of a dead end road was not even interrupted by the farmer walking a couple of his cows to another pasture. Our hosts made a conscious effort not to disturb us, but were only a short walk away if we needed anything, which due to their planning was seldom. I need to end this, so let me do so by saying that we feel we have made lifelong friends with Bea and Karl. Thank you both for a wonderful week on your island.
The cottage in beautiful countryside - near chapel Norte. Sea views as far as the eye can see.
