About Renate Hannemann
Our German/Icelandic family has lived on the Herridarholi farm, some 400 m from the holiday home by the lake. We run a guesthouse there during the summer, and offer riding tours. Our agricultural operation runs year-round, with sheep, horses, and dairy cows.
Renate Hannemann purchased this House in 2015
Why Renate Hannemann chose Selfoss
Since Iceland is worth a visit even outside of the summer, we decided to offer vacations year-round as well. That's why we built a holiday home on the prettiest part of our 400-hectare farm, and so our Herrukot holiday home was born.
What makes this House unique
The isolated lakeside location allows for a relaxing vacation, especially when combined with the central location and the good access road. The house is so spacious and comfortable that even spending a day indoors when the weather isn't good is a fine holiday experience. The hot tub during a snowstorm or under the northern lights is an unforgettable experience!

Great stay in Iceland
We stayed there in March, in winter season. The property is very isolated, clean, and well appointed. We enjoyed our stay there and the hosts were wonderful and helpful as we had to rearrange our stay due. We hope to be back again in the summer.
Excellent cottage in a beautiful location
Renate's cottage really made our trip, it is a beautiful place to stay. The house was clean, tidy and very welcoming. We visited in winter and the house was always warm to come home to, the hot tub also was wonderful and definitely warm enough to completely relax in.
The kitchen is well equipped and there were a few store cupboard essentials. There are plenty of Iceland guidebooks and games in the living room to keep you entertained.
Renate was always very friendly and came to our rescue immediately when the driveway was blocked by snow... she and her husband came out to clear it and kept checking it was passable for the rest of our stay.
Would highly recommend staying here, we would love to come back one day soon!
Thank you, welcome back again!
Lovely chalet in a scenic secluded location, but only a couple of miles from the main highway. Perfect for a relaxing getaway, easy for day trips to all the waterfalls and scenery points on the Golden Circle.
The house has lovely underfloor (geothermal) heating making it really cosy and the hot tub (also geothermal) is a perfect place to relax.
Well equipped kitchen, two twin bedrooms and a comfy living room with views across the lake to the surrounding hills and (on a clear day) to Hekla.
No light pollution so clear skies means stunning stars and a good chance of aurora.
Stunning Rural Jewel
Easy to find, not far off the highway. Property owner made everything perfect.
Amazing home, perfect spot for our family
This home was beautiful, the hot tub was an amazing way to end our adventurous days. We didnt get to see any northern lights on this visit, but, if they showed up, the hot tub would be the most gorgeous spot to view them.
Herrukot, our newly-built and comfortable holiday home is situated right on the shores of a large lake. It boasts views of the lake, the constantly-changing landscape and the Þjórsa River, and also has horses! The Northern Lights in winter are simply unforgettable! The location in the central Southern Region means that plenty of great day trips are possible, for example to Geysir, Gullfoss, Thingvellir National Park, the Hekla and Eyjafjallajökull Volcanoes, Reykjavik, the Vestmannaeyjar Islands, glaciers, cliffs with flocks of birds, and the highlands of Landmannalaugar and Thorsmörk. Reykjavik is an hour's drive away, and contains numerous museums, galleries, churches, shopping centres, and whale-watching options. We offer short and long rides (even for beginners) through the constantly-changing landscape, over mountains, and along the rivers and lakes. We make sure our guests get an individual treatment! Our farmhouse is 500 m away and we are happy to help with any questions. We'd be happy to give you a view of the Icelandic farm life. We have 300 sheep, 120 Iceland ponies, 70 cows and steers, as well as cats, rabbits, and a dog. Very family-friendly!
