Well equipped gites ideal for family holidays or a quiet get-away!
Originally barns these 2 beautifully converted luxury, detached gites, each have their own private garden area, sitting amongst trees on the edge of the charming village of Crazannes, just a 5 minute walk from the River Charente. The nearest town is Saintes which as well as offering many places to visit with its Roman Heritage, has all your shopping needs.
These attractive, comfortable and very well equipped gites are ideal for family holidays with everything you would need for a young family. Or this peaceful setting is ideal for a quiet get away. Spend the day by the pool or relaxing in the garden. Or visit one of the many beaches most of which are just a 35 minute drive.
Also perfectly located for those who wish to explore the area or to just relax and enjoy the weather! With beautiful sunny days throughout the year this makes it a perfect location for walking and cycling and enjoying the surrounding countryside and for visiting the many beautiful towns and villages.
What's in the area?: With just a 40 minute drive north west to the Atlantic coast you will find the sunny beaches of Fouras and Chatelaillon Plage. And to the south west, still just 40 minutes, there are the beautiful beaches of Saint-Georges-de-Didonne and St Palais-sur-Mer. With many more but unfortunately we haven’t visited them all!
With Cognac a 35 minute drive, tours around one of the famous Martell, Hennessy or Remy Martin distilleries are a must.
Just 50 minutes from the beautiful coastal town of La Rochelle, a must for any shopper! La Rochelle has a wonderful ambience with many restaurants bursting on to the pavements. Seafood is of course the speciality. Just 60 minutes to the stunning Ile de Re. With wonderful shops to browse round at Ile de Martin and an amazing choice of pavement cafes and restaurants, all looking on to the harbour. Ile de Re has many beautiful beaches and more wonderful quaint villages to wonder around.

About Catherine Piner
We arrived here with our young family in 2003 with the intention of giving it a go for 5 years and we're still here! We came here from Surrey, so the pace of life has slowed down considerably, not only is this a great holiday destination it's a great place to live too. Both our children love it, they've only known the French school system so are far more fluent than either of us!
Catherine Piner purchased this Cottage in 2003
Why Catherine Piner chose Crazannes
When we first saw this property and the beautiful garden we knew this had to be the one. The huge draw was the the fact that even though the 'gites' were little more than shells used for storage and garaging we could see they had massive potential especially as they were completely independent of the main house and each other. So each house would have it's only private space. The location is perfect, not a huge drive from the UK and when our guests arrive loads of interesting places to visit including some amazing beaches within a short drive. It was a top priority that our guests would be comfortable as although generally the climate is warm and sunny it's inevitable that some days may not be so bright.
What makes this Cottage unique
The thing I remember most was during our second viewing of the property, we were sitting on the terrace and could hear the church bell chime midday, beautiful! So very peaceful and our girls have often said how lovely it is to sit and listen to the birds, as there are so many trees in the garden there are certainly no shortage of those!

Superb Family Holiday Gite
Terry and Catherine have thought of everything. The gite is beautifully renovated and furnished with everything you need for a family holiday from a well equiped kitchen to toys and videos for the children. This will be our third holiday with them this year (2008) and we can't wait for our 2 weeks enjoying the gite, pool and surrounding countryside.
comfortable and well equipped gite
in an interesting area of France this well equipped gite is convenient for coast , city and walking holidays . Everything you need is in the gite and the large garden and pool are a bonus . Hosts extremely helpful and the icing on the cake for us was to be able to pick up baguettes and croissants next door !
An impressive and well equipped gite
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at l'olivier. The gite was spacious, clean and well equipped. Catherine has thought about everything and gave us plenty of information on arrival (plus a welcome pack of bread, butter, jam, milk and wine). The addition of the garden with a play area was a godsend with a toddler! We will most definitely return.
Excellent holiday cottage
We spent ten days here recently and found the accommodation excellent. The gite was spotlessly clean and extremely well equipped-we prefer to do our own cooking and found virtually everything we needed. We had a heatwave during our stay-a charcoal barbecue is supplied, so we used that every night. There is a beautiful pool, which gets the sun all day, so that was very welcome at the end of our days' cycling. If you like cycling, but aren't keen on hills, this part of France is ideal. There is also off road parking for your car. Although there is another gite across the garden, there are very private sitting out areas for each house. Catherine and Terry are lovely hosts-we knew the area but if you don't, they have lots of helpful information. We have been self catering in France for nearly 40 years and this is one of the best places we have rented.
Ideal for family holidays
Our hostess, Catherine, was very obliging, running late en route to Crazannes she phoned to advise us to buy provisions, as the supermarkets would be closed the following day. The gite was well presented, exceedingly clean and had everything we required, including English speaking TV and a beautiful bottle of local wine. The only criticism of our stay was the beds were extremely uncomfortable.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review of our property. We are delighted you found the gite had everything you needed for your stay including our complementary bottle of wine. We are very saddened to find that you found our beds uncomfortable as we find that this is one thing our many guests do complement the gite on having, extremely comfortable beds and bedding!
This gite has everything for a fantastic holiday. It is perfectly equipped, clean and well maintained. Catherine was welcoming and helpful. We loved the swimming pool and the space in the garden for the children to run around. We visited the local chateau on our bikes, local beaches, the aquarium at La Rochelle, St Savinien with its miniature boats and played tennis. Thoroughly recommended for a family holiday in a great setting.
L’Olivier and la Petite Bergerie are situated in the charming small village of Crazannes. It is only a 5 min. walk to the beautiful river Charente, with local Châteaux of Crazannes and Panloy at Port d’Envaux both within walking distance and le Château de la Roche Courbon at Saint-Porchaire just a 5 minute drive.
It is only a 15 minute drive from the beautiful market town of Saintes, also located on the Charente, shops and restaurants are therefore within easy reach.
There are many many stunning beaches all less than an hours drive.
