|Minimum Stay||3 - 7 nights|
This is a single storey property with large open plan living, dining and kitchen area. There are two bedrooms, one double and one twin and a shower room. The property has it's own private garden area with patio, table and chairs and a barbecue.
It is possible to park outside the gite.
Originally barns these 2 beautifully converted luxury, detached gites, each have their own private garden area, sitting amongst trees on the edge of the charming village of Crazannes, just a 5 minute walk from the River Charente. The nearest town is Saintes which as well as offering many places to visit with its Roman Heritage, has all your shopping needs.
These attractive, comfortable and very well equipped gites are ideal for family holidays with everything you would need for a young family. Or this peaceful setting is ideal for a quiet get away. Spend the day by the pool or relaxing in the garden. Or visit one of the many beaches most of which are just a 35 minute drive.
Also perfectly located for those who wish to explore the area or to just relax and enjoy the weather! With beautiful sunny days throughout the year this makes it a perfect location for walking and cycling and enjoying the surrounding countryside and for visiting the many beautiful towns and villages.
What's in the area?: With just a 40 minute drive north west to the Atlantic coast you will find the sunny beaches of Fouras and Chatelaillon Plage. And to the south west, still just 40 minutes, there are the beautiful beaches of Saint-Georges-de-Didonne and St Palais-sur-Mer. With many more but unfortunately we haven’t visited them all!
With Cognac a 35 minute drive, tours around one of the famous Martell, Hennessy or Remy Martin distilleries are a must.
Just 50 minutes from the beautiful coastal town of La Rochelle, a must for any shopper! La Rochelle has a wonderful ambience with many restaurants bursting on to the pavements. Seafood is of course the speciality. Just 60 minutes to the stunning Ile de Re. With wonderful shops to browse round at Ile de Martin and an amazing choice of pavement cafes and restaurants, all looking on to the harbour. Ile de Re has many beautiful beaches and more wonderful quaint villages to wonder around.
We arrived here with our young family in 2003 with the intention of giving it a go for 5 years and we're still here!
We came here from Surrey, so the pace of life has slowed down considerably, not only is this a great holiday destination it's a great place to live too.
Both our children love it, they've only known the French school system so are far more fluent than either of us!
Catherine Piner purchased this cottage in 2003
When we first saw this property and the beautiful garden we knew this had to be the one.
The huge draw was the the fact that even though the 'gites' were little more than shells used for storage and garaging we could see they had massive potential especially as they were completely independent of the main house and each other. So each house would have it's only private space.
The location is perfect, not a huge drive from the UK and when our guests arrive loads of interesting places to visit including some amazing beaches within a short drive.
It was a top priority that our guests would be comfortable as although generally the climate is warm and sunny it's inevitable that some days may not be so bright.
The thing I remember most was during our second viewing of the property, we were sitting on the terrace and could hear the church bell chime midday, beautiful! So very peaceful and our girls have often said how lovely it is to sit and listen to the birds, as there are so many trees in the garden there are certainly no shortage of those!

Terry and Catherine have thought of everything. The gite is beautifully renovated and furnished with everything you need for a family holiday from a well equiped kitchen to toys and videos for the children. This will be our third holiday with them this year (2008) and we can't wait for our 2 weeks enjoying the gite, pool and surrounding countryside.
Our hostess, Catherine, was very obliging, running late en route to Crazannes she phoned to advise us to buy provisions, as the supermarkets would be closed the following day. The gite was well presented, exceedingly clean and had everything we required, including English speaking TV and a beautiful bottle of local wine. The only criticism of our stay was the beds were extremely uncomfortable.
This gite has everything for a fantastic holiday. It is perfectly equipped, clean and well maintained. Catherine was welcoming and helpful. We loved the swimming pool and the space in the garden for the children to run around. We visited the local chateau on our bikes, local beaches, the aquarium at La Rochelle, St Savinien with its miniature boats and played tennis. Thoroughly recommended for a family holiday in a great setting.
My husband, daughter and i have just returned from a most enjoyable week in Catherine and Terry's lovely gite L'Olivier.
The gite has a perfect setting. It sits in a large tree filled garden in a peaceful village but is less than 20 minutes from the delightful town of Saintes.
The gite is spotlessly clean, very comfortable and well equipped with everything you could need for a self-catering holiday, including your own private patio and BBQ area at the side of the gite.
The garden and pool area are beautifully maintained and are a great place to chill out and relax. We could quite happily have spent the week there reading, sunbathing and swimming in the superb pool with nothing to disturb us but the birdsong.
L'Olivier is within easy reach of the town of Saintes. We were spoiled for choice each night by the number of restaurants to eat in. An hour's drive took us to La Rochelle which is a great town for strolling around and enjoying the interesting and unusual shops. A little further on is the Ile de Re where we hired bikes for a day exploring the island.
Catherine and Terry are excellent hosts, providing a welcome pack of wine, bread, jam and milk on our arrival. They are always on hand if you need suggestions for places to eat or interesting day trips but are never intrusive if you prefer your privacy.
All this combined to make for a perfect holiday. Our only disappointment was that our stay was too short. We look forward to returning to L'Olivier.
We spent two enjoyable weeks in L'Olivier. The gite was immaculately clean, tastefully decorated with a comfortable bed and very well equipped. There is a designated area at the side of the gite with table, chairs and BBQ, and although there is another gite and the owner's house on the same site, your privacy is ensured. The pool is a good size and the area around it attractive and well maintained.
There is plenty to do locally. Saintes is only a 20 minute drive and has much to offer. The coast is about 45 minutes away, and a trip to Ile d'Oleron, La Tremblade and Saint Georges de Didonne is highly recommended. It is, however, always nice to return to Crazannes at the end of a busy day and unwind in the peace and quiet of this lovely area. We intend to return soon.
L’Olivier and la Petite Bergerie are situated in the charming small village of Crazannes. It is only a 5 min. walk to the beautiful river Charente, with local Châteaux of Crazannes and Panloy at Port d’Envaux both within walking distance and le Château de la Roche Courbon at Saint-Porchaire just a 5 minute drive.
It is only a 15 minute drive from the beautiful market town of Saintes, also located on the Charente, shops and restaurants are therefore within easy reach.
There are many many stunning beaches all less than an hours drive.
