We are a couple of professional people that are living the American dream. We came to America to study and stayed to form a family of 3 children.
The Breakers is our second home. It has everything that we can dream of-- specially having the beach at paces away. Also the complex is so quiet and beautiful. The staff are so ready to help you.
Believe me, you will not find something comparable at South Padre.
Besides the complete conveniences in our unit, the complex has everything that you may want. Specially the enclosed tempered swimming pool and also two outside pools.
We make an annual trip every year and this was one of the best. Location to beach and pool was great. Access to all activities on spi was good.
The location cannot be beat, the place is very nice and it's on the ground floor. Yery was very easy to get in touch with and responded very promptly when I contacted him. We loved our stay here.
The good: This condo is in the Breakers complex. The complex itself is very nice and clean with several pools and an adult only hot tub area. This condo is located on the first floor which in my opinion is the best location since you can just walk out of the condo right onto the beach without using an elevator or stairs. The access to the beach is literally about 100 feet from the back door of the condo. There are excellent views of the beach from inside the condo. The condo was clean upon our arrival.
The not so good: The bed in the master bedroom was uncomfortable to us and will be to you as well if you like firm beds. The bed in the 2nd room was comfortable to the other couple staying with us at the condo. The ceiling fan in the master bedroom would periodically make a weird noise which made you think that it could come down at any moment. The coffee maker didn't work properly so my wife ended up going to buy one to use during our stay. The clothes dryer doesn't dry on all of the settings so we were trying to dry clothes without success until we figured out which setting worked. There is duct tape on the refrigerator door which doesn't keep it from working but it is unsightly. The picture on the TV was not very clear either. You might say that you don't go to the beach to watch TV but we were there during the NBA finals and we were trying to watch the games. There were some bugs inside the condo also. I have rented from VRBO/Home Away before and I have always had a contract sent to me outlining the rental details and how payments would be made as soon as I made the initial payment/reservation in the past. I didn't get that this time until the week before we were set to arrive. I was able to get in touch with the owner (Yery Camacho) by phone and he was very polite every time we spoke but I did find myself a little more concerned about this rental leading up to our trip based on the lack of information I had received. I knew that I wasn't going to get a door code or gate code until right before my arrival but a contract with the agreed upon details of the rental and rules for the condo would have been nice to have in advance.
None of these things would keep us from coming back to this condo again but it does tend to show how little effort the owners put into the upkeep of the place. I would easily give this condo an excellent review if a few of those things were fixed/updated by the owners.
Supreme location with easy access to the beach and pools! You will see views of the ocean from your patio, living room, master suite, and kitchen. The indoor pool was resort like and a nice break from the sun. The owners and property management were excellent and easy to work with. The unit was spotless when we arrived. If you have little ones be sure and take beach toys (i.e. kites, buckets, shovels, etc.). Umbrellas and chairs are available for a minimal daily fee. We highly recommend and can't wait to go back!
Was very excited to find a condo with first floor access to the beach but was very disappointed in what we got. Arrived late but door was supposed to be opened by code so should not have been an issue until we found the keypad broken which according to the condo manager who had to come let us in while we waiting outside at 10pm with our young children exhausted from the drive, this was a known problem they had been requesting the owner fix. We finally got the kids in and went to put them to bed when we found it took two people to try to pull out the hide-a-bed in the couch which had a broken frame and was so uncomfortable my 6 year old complained of a sore neck and back the next day. It took two of us to collapse it again and we ended up keeping the mattress out and just leaning it against the wall during the day and laying it on the floor at night for the kids. As for the broken lock, for the first day of our stay we had to call the front office to come lock and unlock the door overtime we came and went. Eventually a key was left for us while we were out and our door was left unlocked with all our possessions in the unit including laptop, profession digital camera, and other items. Not only did we return to an unlocked unit but found that our air conditioning was not working. We were told to call the front office for all emergent issues so we did. Front office told us they would contact the owner and we heard nothing back. Eventually contacted the owner ourselves who claims the office never contacted him but he did send somebody out right away and it did get fixed; by this time waiting on the front office the condo was up to almost 80 degrees inside.
Beyond the multiple broken items the kitchen furnishings were very sparse. There were no games or beach toys which almost every condo I have ever stayed in on a beach has provided at least something; thankfully we brought everything we needed except for beach towels which we also did not have at the condo but made due by just walking back wet and hopping in the showers; had it been colder out this would not have worked. The decor was deceiving in the pictures. There are pretty shower curtains hanging that you see in the pictures but when you pull them back the showers have old glass doors on them and are very outdated looking. Also the hot water heater only lasted for about 2-3 people and we each had to take our share of cold showers. Will not use this unit again.

Laguna Vista (15 miles west of the Island) has changed from a few permit residents and cactus fields to a fast growing community with a fantastic golf course that satisfies the desires of both residents and visitors to “tee one up”. Port Isabel located between the Island and Laguna Vista has a variety of channel front lots and homes for the fishing enthusiast. You may venture into the Laguna Madre Bay to catch a redfish or go deep-water fishing in the Gulf for that record-breaking catch.
Visitors from the East coast to the West coast; from Mexico and Europe are rapidly becoming property owners in the Laguna Madre area. An eclectic mix of retires, young married couples and families of all sizes have chosen to locate in the golf community in Laguna Vista, while many second home purchasers who still desire the look and the sound of the Gulf of Mexico with it’s peaceful white sand have chosen waterfront residences in Port Isabel or South Padre Island. Our full-time residents’ desires vary from Island life to one of the local neighborhood communities.
There is a free public transportation bus that takes you around the island and near towns.
