About Maja Siska
Originally german, I have lived here in Iceland since 2000 with my icelandic husband, icelandic dog, chickens and horses! We love our home and we enjoy sharing our knowledge and experiences of Iceland and our area with you. Originally I came here because of horse riding and today I feel at least as icelandic as anything else! I am looking forward to welcoming you in the country I chose to be my home!
Maja Siska purchased this House in 2005
Why Maja Siska chose Rangárþing ytra
Nordurnes and Bjalli are each situated on their own in spectacular landscape: a cosy retreat with views onto horse pastures and mountains, volcanos and glaciers. And all that in an ideal location for trip to the sights of south Iceland, into the highlands and out for riding tours in summer… and the hour drive to Reykjavik ( 80km) over the pass Hellisheidi is always a scenic experience.
What makes this House unique
The atmosphere in Nordurnes and Bjalli is very peaceful and you are in touch with nature and the surrounding landscape. The idyllic setting with its views onto volcano Hekla and the mountains keeps surprising you! The next pool and the next riding stable is only 7km away.

Perfect place to stay
Very comfortable house in a beautiful location away from the crowds. The owner is very welcoming and helpful with suggestions of local places to visit. All main sights are within easy driving distance. Excellent value.
Perfect house in perfect spot
I couldn't have been happier staying in Bjalli. I still get a little bubble of joy in my chest every time I think of it, and I don't think that's going away soon. I have stayed in many self catering rentals and never have I seen one more thoughtfully appointed with everything you could need. The decor is lovely and the views are glorious. I felt at once completely alone in the world, which was delicious, but warm and safe and looked after. Maja was a brilliant host, letting me know all-important news like weather and road conditions, and kindly coming down to say hi with Skinna, her sheep dog, but was never intrusive. My only regret is that I spent so much time exploring the wonders of Iceland that I did not get enough time simply to enjoy the house and it's surroundings, being there really only at night. (Although crisp clear winter nights spent there without any light pollution meant two nights in a row of Aurora Borealis!). I will definitely be back, for longer next time.
Cozy, peaceful and idyllic with shades of pastoral.
Fantastic stay. The views were miles long. Sunrise and sunsets were 35mm film picturesque and absolutely spectacular. We actually caught the aurora borealis right outside our beautiful cabin. Maja (the owner who also happens to be a famous artist), her husband and their beautiful doggo (named Skinna) are just the perfect hosts that one could hope for. Our children said: "I think we enjoyed this vacation the most".. Can't say enough good things about this place. The feel of the countryside, the open, rolling meadows and the errant sheep/horse make it magical. Maja makes the effort to ensure that one's stay is extra comfortable. Highly highly recommended.
Stunning location!! Wonderful Icelandic experience!!
The cabin was beyond comfortable and equipped with everything one would need!! The location was serene with stunning vistas from all directions! Perfect location to view the northern lights!! Maja was friendly, accommodating and quickly answered any queries!! Excellent suggestions and directions for daytrips and local attractions!! Would return in a heartbeat!! Thank you Maja for an awesome experience!!
Excellent stay in a beautiful country.
We had such a brilliant stay! The house was clean and exactly as described in a stunning location.
What a gem! The farmhouse is adorable, cozy, clean and had everything we needed. It is in a beautiful part of Iceland. It is surrounded by lovely farms and grazing sheep. Even Skinna, the dog, came to welcome us.
And although it was cloudy most nights, we were able to see a few Northern Lights! The people of Iceland are warm and friendly.
Thank you, Maja, for your hospitality and the information on the surrounding area. It was so helpful!
We hope to return someday!
