To the pool area we have added a FULL SIZED SLIDE into the pool.

In the heart of Renaissance Italy, on Tuscany/Umbrian border, high on 400mt ridge, stands 'Podere Borgacciano'. 3km. from Monterchi, a medieval walled village (see Thames & Hudson's 'The Most Beautiful Villages in Tuscany').

Our lovingly restored 17C stone villa offers breathtaking magical views & tranquility set in beautiful mature gardens - wafting scents of roses, lavender, jasmine, rosemary and herbs. 5 acre grounds merge into panoramic countryside - fortified hilltop villages, castles, olive groves, vineyards, chestnut, oak and cypress woods, figs, sunflowers, poppies, corn, tobacco - enjoying total relaxation, peace and privacy without isolation. (village General Store 3kms). Magnificent 14mX6m infinity-edge swimming pool surrounded by lemons, Cypress and Olive groves with stunning views south from beautiful landscaped terraces across valley to the lush green Umbrian hills,

POOL COMPLEX OPEN 28 April to 27 Oct 2012 : Magnificent 14X6 mt pool surrounded by 350 sq. mtrs of terraces, walkways, flower beds, cypress and olive trees. THE POOLHOUSE has a shower/ WC, summer kitchen and large shaded terrace,

table and chairs, barbeques and pizza forno, from which to enjoy al-fresco meals with stunning views across the valley. Mediaeval Lippiano Castle and the lush green Umbrian Hills form a backdrop.

We installed the finest pool equipment from the USA made by Culligan. The Diatomea Filter(Fullers Earth)filters out all particles over 0.50 microns. (The average Sand filter, filters out particles over 30 microns, making ours 60X more efficient) The Chlorination and Ph levels are computer controlled. Our groundsman cleans the pool and checks water quality weekly. An electrically controlled pool cover for insulation and safety is installed. The 14 mtr infinity edge allows you to feel as if you are swimming in the valley whilst listening to your favourite music from the outdoor speakers.

THE VILLAGE: Monterchi, its name derived from 'MONS HERCULIS' (hill of Hercules) whose cult was celebrated here in ancient Etruscan and Roman periods, is home of the famous Renaissance fresco 'The Madonna del Parto' (The Madonna of Childbirth) The mother of Piero della Francesca, the painter of the fresco, was born in Monterchi and the village became famous when in 1888 the fresco, painted in 1446 and considered one of Piero's finest masterpieces, was uncovered in the chapel of the cemetery. This restored fresco is now well displayed in the old village schoolhouse.

SIGHTSEEING: Podere Borgacciano is a 'Springboard' for sightseeing.

Florence (130 kms); Siena (90 kms);San Gimingnano (110 kms.) Assisi (75 kms) Pisa (150 kms); Perugia (65 kms); Arezzo (30 kms) (all distances approx.) are within easy reach. Rome, Bologna, and the Chianti wine countryside are within one to two hours travel. Both the Mediterranean and Adriatic coasts are no more than 2 hrs easy travel.

Local pearls such as Sansepolcro, Citta di Castello, Gubbio, Urbino, Anghiari, Caprese Michaelangelo (the artist's birthplace) and many more, abound with culture, art treasures, music and folk festivals.

Beautiful, tranquil house with stunning views!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful, tranquil and practically perfect house and location. We were privileged enough to stay at Podere in August with two other families. The rooms were the perfect temperature for sleeping despite the blistering sunshine outside. There are wonderful nooks and crannies to hide away and just soak up the amazing views. I would question anyone who is not completely absorbed by the views over the valleys.

As for the swimming pool and surrounding area - it is breathtaking. A separate eating area at the poolside means that no one has to be out of the pool for too long - a blessing with six small children.

Inside, the property is cool and calm. The bedrooms are spacious and pitch black once the outside shutters are closed - great for those of us not wanting to be woken by the sunshine!

I cannot recommend this place enough - we loved it and hope to come back soon.

Beautiful house and location.

  • 4 of 5

As a family of four we stayed in this villa during the last week of October'16. As described and in the pictures the villa is very beautiful as are the Tuscan surroundings. The only down sides to the property were that the internet was restricted to a small corner of one room (perhaps not unreasonable in a rural setting), the swimming pool was very cold, again perhaps to be expected in October and the ground floor bedroom was a bit damp and musty smelling. That said none of these things ruined our holiday and the autumn Tuscan sun was warm and relaxing. The owners were genuinely caring and made sure we were ok throughout our holiday. All in all a fantastic relaxing place with magnificent scenery that will last in our memories forever.

Owner's Response: We are delighted that you had such a good, relaxing holiday with wonderful memories and that you plan to return with family and friends. Last year, we gave up with the internet via Telecom Italia that used the old telephone lines and only delivered 2.2 Mb download, so we had a dish installed that picks up a signal from a mast at St Giustino, 12 kms away and delivers 7Mb of download. However, this did not entirely solve the problem because it is difficult, even with boosters, to distribute the signal and penetrate the 50 cms thick stone walls. We thought of rewiring the house with ethernet cables to replace the coaxial TV cables but that would have been extremely costly. However, a month ago I discovered that there was a "box of tricks", used by TV companies, that can use coaxial cable to transmit an internet signal !! I have bought some of these boxes and will have them installed next week when we return to "Podere Borgacciano" for the olive harvest and produce our wonderful olive oil. Hopefully, that will make all the difference to connect to the internet anywhere in the house. With regard to any damp in Girasole, it is a pity that you did not mention it on the numerous occasions when we spoke during the week that you were there, because I could have immediately sent our caretaker to find out what the problem was and deal with it. We look forward to welcoming you back to "Podere Borgacciano", hopefully at a time of year when the pool is lovely and warm !!

Less than expected

  • 3 of 5

The descriptions of Podere Borgacciano and the surrounding area in the listing itself and in the reviews accurately identify the many wonderful features: beautiful house, garden and views, great location, friendly proprietor and local people. However, because of some significant issues during the stay by our group of 8, this review must be less than sterling. While the Rosa and Flora bedrooms were just fine, Girasole and Papavera (the lower bedrooms) were extremely damp and musty, and therefore very uncomfortable to be in. Papavera (the apartment) should have been commodious for the two single persons staying there, but the sofa-bed was so uncomfortable that they had to share the double bed. Actual wireless internet coverage was literally only one square meter in one corner of the upstairs living area. The pool was as beautiful as described, but it was a chillier experience than it should have been because the pool cover that is supposed to provide insulation was not working. Finally, while we were able to transfer payment to the owner conveniently through Xoom with modest fees, the owner required an inconvenient and expensive (15% fees) bank transfer for the return of our deposit. We paid 30-50% more for Podere Borgacciano than for two other listings we were considering , so it was disappointing that it proved not to be a 5-star experience.

Owner's Response: After having had the joy of replying to all our guest, who have written such glowing reviews, how happy we are that they echo our feelings of enchantment and love for our “Angolo di Paradiso”, it is with sadness that we read that 8 university professors from the USA have had a “less than sterling” experience. However, most of southern Europe in 2016, suffered the wettest and coldest May and June since we arrived in Tuscany, some 20 years ago. Our pool, despite the heat from solar panels, was a similar temperature to every pool in Tuscany. Having installed a satellite dish for the internet, offering three times the speed of the local telephone lines, it possibly was unable to support all the professors laptops. Unfortunate, our request to complete our usual Form regarding a USA bank account, for the return of the deposit, was refused. We had such difficulties trying to return the deposit via a stock broker in Belgium. However, after a dozen or more emails, we finally succeeded. We do hope that the professors next visit to our “Angolo di Paradiso” will be a happier experience.

Unspoilt TUscany

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 8 spent two weeks in this rustic farmhouse with fab views over unspoilt Tuscany. The gardens were lovely and the pool complex amazing - every detail had been thought of and no expense spared.

The nearby village of Monterchi was charming and there were a number of medieval hill top towns to explore with many of Italy's more popular tourist attractions within easy reach.

Podere Borgacciano gave us a holiday to remember and is highly recommended.

Peaceful & stunning location

  • 4 of 5

Wonderful location with many medieval hill towns nearby and stunning scenery. The house was clean, spacious and comfortable for the three couples staying there and well equipped. You do need a car to go everywhere, a small price to pay for the peaceful location.

The gardens were a blaze of colour and very fragrant, every part of the garden offered a different view of the Tuscan and Umbrian hills and countryside. A highlight for us was the infinity pool - an early morning swim with those views - a real treat. We were spoilt for choice with interesting places to visit and good restaurants, meaning a return trip is going to be needed!

We were made very welcome by the owners who recommendations proved to be excellent. They were always on hand if needed but did not invade our privacy at all. The local shops and restaurants also made us very welcome.

The house wine was good and it was a very nice touch to have a welcome pack there including homemade bread (delicious)on arrival. The local market was really good for local fruit, bread, cheese, meats etc.

Few negatives - we encountered a couple of small maintenance issues and these were dealt with.

We look forward to returning to Monterchi and Podere Borgacciano soon.

Storybook Beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

We had seen all the photos of the villa before going, but they could not compare to actually seeing it in person. Wow! We got very used to the view from our bedroom window, seeing for miles across the valley to the hills and towns beyond. Imagine walking out into the garden and picking ripe grapes, plums, and figs to eat - not to mention the fresh chicken eggs we collected every day. The property is filled with gorgeous trees and plants of all kinds, including fresh herbs that we picked and used for out dinner on a daily basis.

The rooms were comfortable and clean and we only needed the air conditioning a couple of nights as most evenings cooled down quite comfortably. We appreciated that the three couples each had their own bathrooms very much.

The pool complex was straight out of a Hollywood movie. The exceptionally large and refreshing pool was just what we needed after a day of sightseeing, and being ballroom dancers, we were thrilled with the outdoor lights and sound system so we could dance by the pool under the starlight - which we did.

Sunday's fresh market in Monterchi served us well, as did the local supermarcato. Local pizzerias provided us with great local food for those nights none of us wanted to cook!

If you're looking for a little piece of paradise and a place to call home while exploring beautiful Tuscany, look no further than Podere Borgacciano.
