Best trip ever!
Great experience. Lovely house with history. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your home.
Cassandra, thank you for choosing my home to enjoy your trip to New Orleans. You were everything I hoped you'd be from the standpoint of a great guest and kept me close at hand so that we could communicate the ins and outs. You are a breath of fresh air and I hope you are a sign that the new generation is of your quality going forward. Come again please!
Wonderful Girls Weekend Stay
I cannot say enough wonderful things about this property and it's manager, Tom. Tom is thorough, thoughtful and very easy to communicate with. The property is like something from a bygone era. If you have a flare for antiques, originality and historic homes, you will fall in love with this place - just like we did!
Thank you so very much! You epitomize the type of guests I seek to have and for whom I work so hard to satisfy. Your enthusiasm and attention to the details of the house are unparalleled except for your care you took in caring for the old place. Thank you for being a great guest and an antique lover like myself...spread the love because very few are growing through the appreciation of the relics of the past and I fear history will be obliterated if left to the oncoming generations. So glad you're out there! All best and please come again! Tom
This 1882 house is a historic gem
Living in this 1882 home for a week was like a trip back in time. My family of 8 loved it! It is magnificent! Thank God the owner saw the value in this beautiful treasure to painstakingly preserve it. The home is filled with period furniture and decor. Our family loves to cook together so the well appointed kitchen with huge island and Thor stove was a real treat. None of us are shy so sharing bathrooms upstairs was a non issue, the home has 4 full baths but 2 are downstairs and all bedrooms are upstairs. The grand staircase is eye-popping but going down them at night was not an option so we shared the 2 upstairs as need at night. The beds were very comfortable. Parents with a toddler took the bedroom with the kitchenette which was perfect for milk storage. This home was perfect for our family. Many Thanks to Tom for restoring this gem and for being such a pleasure to communicate with! Good Luck with completing the rest of your renovations of this great old beauty.
Wow Anna and Jeff, I knew you enjoyed it, but your review made it that much more special for me to host you. As well, you were the best of guests and always checking in and assuring me that you were caring for the place, which goes a long way when you have handed over your keys to a house like this one! Sharing history is the highlight of my life, since it has been so misinterpreted in schools as of late and omitted entirely in some cases. My fear is what will become of these relics given that we no longer teach the value of history to children and instead, condemn, contort, and even erase it so that it conforms with today's social protocols and sensitivities. Not having to change it, is the very reason it is called history! We evolve as humans and learn from past mistakes and our many triumphs and are able to be better custodians of art and beauty left from other eras. Please come back again!! One correction for readers: I have 6 bedrooms and 5 baths (one bedroom suite was closed for your smaller group) and am working on a 6th bath to open soon. Thank you!!!
This is an historic home with large rooms well decorated. It is as different from staying at a hotel as it could possibly be. Our 3 families fitted in easily. I recommend it highly for those who do not demand all the modern conveniences but rather enjoy antiques and a sense of New Orlean's history.
Booking was very simple and smooth. The accommodations were excellent. Location very convenient.
Thank you Susan! Actually, you were easy, pleasant and seamless to accommodate and communicate with! I loved having you and your family and welcome you back whenever in town. I should be so lucky to have you again! All the best of holidays! Tom
Destination Wedding Event
The property was lovely very warm and welcoming. The only two areas that need to be improved are with VFBO's communication. I booked this property for five nights and six days. We were only given 2 towels per person for the entire six day stay. I had to take time away from my vacation twice to do laundry in order for my guests to have clean towels.
I was also quoted one price and when receiving my final bill was charged an additional guest fee and this guest had to sleep on a foam mattress on the floor.
...a sad day for me to have to relate the many untruths mentioned above. I am speechless right now because of this review. One star means allot to me as I work night and day to please guests and keep prices affordable.
Donna, the price quoted IS the one you were given initially, it was just miss-read by you. I did not change anything at all and this can be verified by the site. The site has listed the price on two lines of the quote. The first line of the price you refer to was for up to 10 guests as shown (for my minimum guest stay which includes 5 queen beds/4 ba with one of each closed to provide better pricing to smaller groups). The next figure present on that same quote was for two guests only for 5 nights since your party was 12 and not 10. The above bed/ba was open and used by your group in full disclosure by the breakdown on the site and by me in verbal explanation on the phone. Any guest may check the site for verification on what was being paid by them, this is not difficult to verify what was sent and agreed upon by you.
Now this next refute of your review statements is quite unbelievable. Frantically, I was told by you upon your arrival, that you had an unexpected additional guest that night from your family and that guest could not share a queen bed and you needed another bedding situation to make it all work. "Is there anything I can offer?" I scrambled into a storage and came out with a foam mattress core that I set up for you in the room of your choice with a fresh mattress cover, sheets, pillow and blankets. Note: still no charge added by me for two extra guests from what you had paid!
I am extremely puzzled by your "after the fact", revelations on the price and the number of beds you were renting. Again the entire house sleeps up to 13 in 6 queen beds and a single bed for a max of 13 guests. You paid only for 12 guests and I added the single bed and mattress on the floor for FREE as a convenience for you! There is also message evidence that you were having different guests coming and going and you would have to wash and remake beds for those changes and needed to know if that was a washer and dryer (the site explicitly says there is a washer and dryer for use).
I bent rules to let part of your party in 4 hours early for you and once you arrived you asked for more towels and I gave you all I had in my house. Keep in mind, this is not a hotel or B&B. I am quite simply blown away!
There is a children's amusement park with rides at nearby City Park where is also located, The New Orleans Museum of Art and golf courses. A train runs during certain times of the year all around the park. Morning Call coffee house is located in the park and serves traditional Beignets (French donuts covered in powdered sugar) and famous coffee and chicory Au lait.
