What a week! The house is located just 13 minutes by car to Bar Harbor, 10 minutes by car to the entrance to Acadia National Park. If you choose to take the bus, the pick up spot is only a short walk away from this roomy, clean, comfortable home. We really liked the home and area! Just down the road from the cape house was a great spot to kayak. We did not bring ours but wish we had. I forgot the name of the harbor / bay area but a fantastic spot for that. There were 5 adults (4 woman and 1 fella) and one small dog that embarked upon this adventure and we never felt cramped in this home. LOVE IT. Hope to go back next year! Thank you for renting us the great home. Its a keeper! Can't say enough about the beauty. If visiting, do yourself a favor and pick up an Acadia Weekly magazine... its free and you can get one at any info center. Its very informative on driving around, the bus routes and has some great activity ideas. We used it every day and because of the magazine we hiked Acadia Mountain, it was AWESOME! I hope all enjoy as much as we did.
We really enjoyed our stay. It's away from the busy Bar Harbor scene, and close to several entrances to Acadia. House is clean and comfortable.
Loved early morning walks down the road with the dog to the Point. Found lots of Sea Glass there.
Recommend the short drive (or cycle) to Atlantic Brewing. Do the tour, sample the beer and soda. Then over to Mainely Meat for some Bar-b-que. Yum.
Don't forget to go out on the deck at night. If your lucky, the weather will be clear and the sky will be full of stars. Wow, I forgot how many there are.
The home was perfect for our family of 5 (2 teenage boys and a 10 year old boy). I wish it had been a little closer to Bar Harbor but the 15/20 minute drive wasn't bad. It was nice to be away from the hub as it was very quiet.
I would check and make sure the Dish TV works when you get there. Ours did not (an earlier storm knocked it out) and we did not have access until the day before we left. The owner was very helpful and came over to fix it but we didn't catch up with him until the end of the week. It was not his fault as we were never home --which is how it should be when you are near Acadia-- you need to be outside! Anyway, he was very personable and did everything he could to make our stay comfortable.
Make sure you turn the water on when you want to do laundry and the pots are kept in the oven drawer! Have fun!
Spent a wonderful week at Syl-Mar. The house is extremely clean and located in a quiet, forested area. We appreciated the wireless internet and the large deck. The house is only a few miles drive from the Acadia visitor center - we relied on the (free!) shuttle for day hikes in Acadia National Park. We plan to return in summer 2015.
Séjour de deux semaines.
Maison dans un boisé près de tout, même de la mer, attention elle est froide.
Les chambre sont très grandes, je recommande l'endroit pour des couples adultes
We have been spending a week in the summer at Syl-Mar now for a number of years. It's a wonderfully private location, yet very close to Acadia Nat. Park and Bar Harbor.
The cape house is truly a "home" away from home and we would recommend it to anyone. It is clean, updated and has all the amenities you need. The owners are terrific!!
