Pino (Italian) and Caroline (English) met in Yorkshire, married and have 3 children. For 20 years they have been running walking tours (Caspin Journeys) and managing their rental apartments at Molino di Bordone, historic Tuscan farmhouse and flour mill.
Caroline Nobile purchased this apartment in 1995
When we stood in the driveway we knew it was right for us. At the time it was still a ruin and had been empty for over 30 years ! But we were drawn by the peacefulness of the place. There were no roads nearby making it safe for the children to play freely.
We love the 360 degree views of wooded hills, vineyards, olive groves, lake and stream running through. At the house there is the lovely big swimming pool with loungers and grassy areas for sunbathing and reading. For families with children there are soccer & volley ball nets, a croquet lawn, swings and climbing frame, bikes of various sizes and a trampoline, used not just for jumping but also star gazing at night - we have no light pollution. We are walking distance (1km) from 2 coffee bars, food market, 2 restaurants, pizzeria, beauty salon, hairdressers, hardware store, clothing shop. We are only minutes from the historic town of Cortona and yet immersed in tranquility. you can walk, run or bike for miles and not need to touch the asphalt.
Molino di Bordone fulfilled all of expectations and then some. Pino, Caroline and family made our stay comfortable and memorable. Our unit (Il Torre) was well equipped and beautifully updated. The grounds were lovely and all tenants were extremely friendly. We would definitely recommend this beautiful place in Tuscany.
The setting is quiet and centered, yet not far from shops, restaurants and the autostrada. Our apartment (Il Torre) was clean and well equipped, The owners, Pino and Caroline were unfailingly warm, friendly and full of helpful information. We would heartily recommend a stay here.
We were referred to Il Molino by friends who have had family reunions here for many years. Now we know why they unequivocally recommended that we look no further for a place to stay in Tuscany. Not just a place to sleep and leave our stuff but to feel, dare I say “at home”, during our stay.
We spent a week at the Nobile’s comfortable Tower Suite, with our teenage daughter. We were made to feel at home from our initial encounter with the Nobile’s children, who showed us our accommodations, made dinner recommendations and reservations, and filled us in on that evening’s entertainment, a festival in which they were participating in town.
From then on, all we had to do was to express a concern or desire and Caroline or Pino would be quick to make suggestions about road trips, sights, or unique experiences, such as a dinner at the home of a local chef/farmer. It was like being at home, but in a new and exciting environment.
Using this as our home base, we were able to explore most of Tuscany’s, and some of Umbria’s, historical and enchanting cities via easy one day round-trips by car.
We wished we’d had an extra week to explore all the sites and gastronomic experiences. And, maybe another week just to hang out by the pool.
This apartment was our 8th we booked through Holiday rentals on this trip and it was the perfect place to relax and unwind after a few months touring. The farm is set in a well maintained garden with a very inviting pool. It is only a few minutes from the local village and about 10 from Cortona. It is an ideal location to explore the countryside or just chill out. Both Caroline and Pino and their children were perfect host and made us feel very welcome. We stayed in the smallest apartment which was adequate for our needs though those wanting a bit more room might find one of the others better. While apartment didn't have airconditioning you didn't need it even though it was in the 30sC every day, the thick walls and the overhead fans kept it very comfortable.
The Tuscan country side is just magic and we couldn't imagine a better place to stay and enjoy it followed by a dip in the pool on your return.

Caroline and Pino are consummate hosts, who have done an amazing job in restoring their property and the grounds. It's right on the Tuscany/Umbria border - and it's easy to get to Florence, Siena, Perugia etc. The apartment was just right for the vacation - and would definitely stay there again. Try their olive oil too!
Nearby amenities: In our village of Montanare-Pergo, just 10 minutes walk from the house, there is a delightful cafe with outdoor seating, pizzeria, restaurants, local food-market and post office. Explore the Etruscan walled, medieval hill town of Cortona, a hidden gem perched majestically on the sun-drenched slopes of Monte Egidio. As you walk around this ancient and noble town you cannot help but sense the vibrations of more than 2500 centuries of history. Cortona inspired Francis Mayes to write her best-seller ‘Under the Tuscan Sun’. There is a delightful selection of street cafes, restaurants, theatre, markets & shops to enjoy and the town hosts many events during the year:- outdoor concerts, musical & opera (June, July, August); ‘Giostra del Archidado’ (jousting - May);; Antiques' Fair (September); the Diocesan and Etruscan museums are world renowned. Located on the border of both Tuscany and Umbria you can take advantage of both regions.
