Lovely property next to Cahuita!

  • 4 of 5

This property is lovely and rustic with a great swimming pool to cool off in after a hot day in the national parks. The kitchen is well equipped and Doris is very welcoming. Lucky the dog is very friendly!

Excellent stay in a lovely location

  • 5 of 5

On arrival in Cahuita, we were met off the shuttle bus by owner Doris, who gave us a quick tour of the town, pointing out the attractions/amenities.

We arrived at the house and were introduced to another "guest", Lucky, a neighbourhood dog...more about him later.

The house is surrounded by a beautiful garden containing plenty of trees & shrubbery which makes it a perfect place to relax. Spacious & well equipped accommodation, it contained everything we needed & more. As well as what is in the property description there is also plenty of towels, linen, safe for your valuables & for those technically minded, WiFi is included.

Main part of the town & beaches are approximately a mile/15 minute walk so although we walked into town for dinner most evenings, being able to spend most of the hot days, lazing around the pool was a huge bonus and most welcome.

Now more about Lucky, a lovely natured dog who spends most of his time hanging out a Casa Magdalena. He added to the enjoyment of our stay and will be one of our enduring memories of our time in Cahuita. So much so that we decided we'd like to spread the word about him and set up a facebook page "Lucky Needs Love".

In summary, we had a wonderful 9 days at Casa Magdalena and can highly recommend it as a place to stay if intending on travelling to the Caribbean coast.

Comfortable home to relax in

  • 4 of 5

The house was a relaxed place to be. It was nice that it wasn't too fancy as we could therefore make ourselves at home.

It was lovely to be able to take a dip in the pool, lounge on the wonderfully comfortable sofa, read and generally relax.

It was further from the beach than we had visualised, but was a great base to go out from on trips if we wanted to or just stay around and chill out.

Very beautiful house !

  • 5 of 5

We spent 3 weeks in Casa Magdalena in May 2013. We had a wonderful time here.

During this one-year trip around the world, we stayed in a lot of places and this one was the best!

The house is beautiful. So is the garden. Because it’s all built in wood, we really felt comfortable and had a peaceful feeling. The house is very well equipped, the rooms are big and with the mosquitos fans, it’s gorgeous. We had a few rainy days but it was not a problem because there is plenty of space here!

The pool was a nice surprise for us because it wasn’t build when we booked. And it was perfect. Big enough so adults can swim, but not too deep so our three children can well play, even the youngest (2 years old).

The neighbours (and their animals !) can be a little noisy, but it is not that annoying. The children could have their nap on the afternoon.

There is all that we can need by walking distance.

The beach was a little bit far for us because we have young children, but you can easily reach the see in 15 min walk.

Doris, you are a very nice host, very thoughtful , we wish you all the best.

our home away from home

  • 5 of 5

After staying in hermosa and chirripo, we decided to visit cahuita and stay at casa magdalena. Doris was nice enough to help us with a ride to the house from the bus station and was waiting for us when we arrived.

The house was gorgeous, surrounded by giant trees and flowers. I liked that we were in a neighborhood located just outside of town and not in the whole tourist-mix of cauhita, it was very relaxing. Everything we needed was there-towels, linens, etc. The fully-equipped kitchen was wonderful to have- with the mercado just down the street, we could make our morning coffee and stay in to eat if we chose to do so.

My favorite thing was to get up early, make coffee and wake up to the sounds of the monkeys and birds(a few roosters, as welll....but expected here!) on the front porch.

My husband and I were traveling with another couple and we had plenty of room and privacy. We rented bikes from town for $6/day so we could get groceries and such, but it's not required to get around. Cahuita is a beautiful town that has not yet been spoiled by tourism and i highly reccommend getting to know some of the locals; we had a lot of fun meeting some of the people. Also--upon coming to the Carribbean side, I was told to be so careful about everything--I was super paranoid! This side of CR has a bad rap. I had visions of people stealing my purse or breaking into our house--it kind of ruined it for me at first. Just be smart. From what I could see, the people of Cahuita are kind and laid-back---the monkeys on the beach were the only ones that came close to stealing my stuff!

Doris, thank you so much for sharing your beautiful place with us! We hope to be back soon :)

family break

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a very enjoyable week at Casa Magdalena. The house was spotlessly clean on our arrival and the owner, Doris, did everything to make us welcome and to be helpful. The kids loved the big garden to play in and we made the most of the spacious balcony for playing too. The location of the house is lovely - away from the town's hustle and bustle but close enough for us to walk into the centre with the children to shop, go to the beach and eat out. The house is well-equiped for a family and we felt very at home. Just hope we will be able to return another time!
