About Michael Smith

My family and I live in Palo Alto, California about a block from Stanford University. My wife, of 18 years, and I have 3 children and we love the Tahoe City area. I am a Bay area native having been born in San Francisco and raised in Montara, California, near Half Moon Bay. We have been enjoying the Lake Tahoe region for over 30 years. Our goal is to raise our children with the same excitement and appreciation that we had for Lake Tahoe.

Michael Smith purchased this house in 2004

Why Michael Smith chose Lake Tahoe North Shore

We simply love Tahoe, the people, the year-round activities and how it makes us feel when we are there. Having grown up going to my Father's place in Tavern Shores in Tahoe City, we could not even think of choosing a better place to share our joy of Tahoe with our children. When he sold his place in the summer of 2004, it left a void in our summer and winter trips to Tahoe. When we came across our home on Pioneer Way, with its close proximity to town, the lake, the golf course, the skiing, we felt we had found our ideal home away from home.

What makes this house unique

Literally, you are a block from town and the lake. Guests who stay at our home report simply parking their car the day they arrive and never needing to use it again. The interior is furnished comfortably and with some of finest linens. All of the furniture is newer and we have included every possible needed kitchen item you could imagine. The wood-stove is ideal in both Winter in Summer to help heat up the house. We include all of the firewood for your use. The hot tub on the back porch has found us in it for hours during the winter and Summer months. The views from it are of the city, the lake and the mountains around the cabin. Finally, the back yard is enclosed, landscaped and grassed. Perfect for sun-bathing, sprinklers for the kids, or a mean badminton game. Enjoy!

Great home for Tahoe getaway

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful little cabin with great layout to accommodate 3 couples and a baby. Could handle a few more folks than that without much trouble. Nice open living / dining / kitchen, plus fenced yard and hot tub made it ideal for our group. We loved that we were a short walk from a nice trailhead for snowshoeing / cross-country skiing, and equally short distance to restaurants and stores of Tahoe City. Highly Recommended.

Charming cabin in great location

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at this property. It was beautifully kept-up, with a great kitchen, comfortable bedrooms, and lots of nice bathrooms. The fenced-in back yard was great for our dog's first ever time playing in the snow! It was a very short drive (15 minutes) to Alpine Meadows for skiing, and right in the heart of town for after skiing. My teenagers were able to explore the town on foot from the house, and had a great time. There also was a nice local snow-park, where they had a good time sledding. Michael was super-duper helpful in advising us about all the fun things to do in the area. And the bumper-pool table in the living room was lots of fun!

Cozy cabin - great location.

  • 4 of 5

Our family (age range: 4 1/2 to 80) recently stayed at the property. It was comfortable and clean. The best thing about the place for us was that it was so close to town. It was a blizzard pretty much the whole time we were there so no one felt like hitting the slopes. It was great to be able to walk to town / through fields of snow to play. Also the golf course (sledding/skating and x-country skiing) was walkable and easy to walk to restaurants/coffee.

Great Summer stay in Tahoe City with little kids

  • 5 of 5

Great comfortable cabin.

We stayed with 3 year old and 9 month old, was just right. Kids' room upstairs with some toys (NES, anyone?!) though daughter mostly checked out the books and bunk beds. Furnishings feel to be in a comfortable non-sterile state of minimal wear - not at all dirty, nor so new that i'd be afraid for kids to sit on anything. Remodeled kitchen is very nice, well stocked with variety of dishes including kids' bowls/spoons.

Location was perfect with the kids. Neighborhood was quiet and far enough from any noise; but was only 2 short blocks to grocery store and restaurants; within another 1-2 blocks Commons beach/great playground, more restaurants, ice cream.

Owner's communication was always very quick and friendly, answered questions right away, told us about a local event/festival going on that weekend.

Recommended.

Great location

  • 5 of 5

Better than a hotel. This lovely home just two blocks off the main road has everything we could desire in a weekend retreat for two. It's comfortable and stocked with everything needed for kitchen and bath. Oh, and spotless! Cute backyard, deck and hot tub (also very clean). We had fun playing the bumper pool. A very easy walk to restaurants, bars, shops, marina, beach and walking trail, yet in a very quiet neighborhood. We will definitely return, next time with family as there is plenty of room. Mike and Lyn were a pleasure to work with every step of the way, very professional and with attention to every detail.

Charming cabin right in town

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cabin for a fall weekend adventure for my daughter and her friends. The location right in Tahoe City was ideal for us so the girls could bike down to get ice cream and use the bike path along the lake. The cabin itself was charming and cozy. The kitchen was very up-to-date and had a good selection of cookware and utensils. There were also staples like olive oil, spices, and flour in the cabinet. The girls loved the hot tub, too. Unlike many cabins, there was a small, grassy lawn in the back yard where you could kick a soccer ball or play lawn bowling. Thanks, Mike and Lyn, for a great weekend retreat!
