A page out of a picture book!
If you are looking for peace, relaxation and charm, this is the sweetest place that you could ever hope to stay! The pictures are true to life- but actually BEING there will take your breath away. This old farmhouse is a piece of history- and it is built right up against the foothills of the alps. It is surrounded by unbelievable views of the valley and the antique village of Torre and hundreds of olive trees! There is a little garden in the front of the farmhouse with chairs- and there you will enjoy the beauty and the quiet of the Tuscan countryside. My husband fired up the outside oven and we so enjoyed cooking almost every night of our stay. Can I mention here the amazing 300 year old Tuscan stone sink in the kitchen?! We went out every day for a little trip to the surrounding towns and to the cities of Lucca and Florence. But how happy we were to come "home" at the end of the day! You will love the wonderful surroundings of this home- to explore, take walks and just relax! You will also love your host, Mark. What a kind and thoughtful man! He is also quite smart and has a quick wit! You will find him to be an invaluable addition to your stay. He truly will make your time in Lucca special and rewarding. And if you are not from Italy, you will absolutely need his guidance and advice!
I could go on and on, trying to find the words to convey how wonderful this property was, but suffice it to say that it is in a perfect
location for day trips, it is clean and cozy and the owner is fantastic!
Thank you for your review and kind comments about your stay at Casa della Volpe. I'm glad you liked the property, the surrounding countryside, and you enjoyed your holiday time there. I do hope you will make a return visit in the future. Saluti. Mark.
Pastoral Lucca Farmhouse.
The property was exactly as described and depicted. We were 3 couples but never felt cramped for space. Everything (rooms, appliances, etc) was spotless and well-maintained. An incredibly peaceful place with a view that inspires quiet contemplation. Mark was the perfect host and upon our arrival showed us where to find the essentials (grocery store, bank, and the best of local food). He also acted as travel agent, supplying maps and "inside" information. Every suggestion was spot on. I give this property the highest of marks and recommend it to anyone lucky enough to find it available. The lovely Lucca is about a 15 minute drive, half of which is spent negotiating the drive down to the main road.

Nice house, nice view and great atmosphere
The whole family (mum, dad, two boys age 2,5 and 14) loved the stay in "Casa della Volpe". Great house with a really nice view. Everything was clean, the beds were nice and the kitchen well equipped.
The house was really cozy and the surroundings were great. We made great trips to Pisa, Lucca, a stalactite cave and small cities near by.
It might not be our last stay at "Casa della Volpe" :-)

great host and great scenery
We were all very delighted with our stay in thiscomfortable house. Mark, the host, was most welcoming and helpful during our stay. The house is very well equipped and clean. The views of the hills were amazing. I would full heartedly recommend this house without hesitation. Keep in mind that a car is necessary and driving up the hill requires an experienced driver.

We have had a wonderful holiday in Casa della volpe. The drive up to the house is exciting with hairpin bends and finally a narrow road. The view from the house is so beautiful, the evening you can see the lights of Lucca. Although there was a heat wave it was still nice to sit out.
The house is cozy and has everything you need. The host is very kind and extremely helpful. He har sweetest however. We had teenage children and they also enjoyed their stay. The owner has great knowledge of the area, so you have to end ask him if you want some ideas of where to go and eat, what to visit and so on. We are pleased to have had the pleasure of staying 13 days in the house and would love to return again

Dear Karen, Thank you for your kind comments about your stay at Casa della Volpe. I do hope you will be able to make a return visit in the future. Saluti, Mark.
La Casa della Volpe is a delightful 18th Century house which has been tastefully modernised to retain its original charm and character. It is set in the hills above Lucca in a quiet, rural area made up of olive trees, vineyards and woods of chestnut, oak, acacia and arbetrello trees. It is possible to harvest chestnuts in the autumn and find wild mushrooms after the rains, if any, in summer. Violets grow under the olive trees in spring, wild carnations and other wild flowers grow along the roadsides in the summer. The air is fresh. The house looks over to the church and tower of Torre Alto and down to the walled city of Lucca which is about 10 km away. Beaches are half an hour to 45 minutes away, depending on the beach location and traffic. Historic World War II villages are a half-day visit; the Leaning Tower of Pisa is 35 km away. A guide to services and restaurants is provided. Other Activities: Touring the area and visiting the walled city of Lucca, Florence, Bologna, Cinque Terre. For horse back riders, there is an equestrian centre nearby for rides through the woodlands and along the river for from one hour to three day treks.
