Incredible apartment!!

  • 5 of 5

Amazing experience in this apartment. Extremely easy to find. The host is fantastic, very friendly and helpful and even gives you a map with local supermarkets and attractions you may want to visit. The apartment itself is modern and warm, and hella central!!! You can store your bags there all day before and after check in/out!! I will definitely be booking this place for my

Next visit to Amsterdam! Much cheaper than a hotel and much more personal!!

As much to expect for an old elegant building

  • 3 of 5

The host were amazing. We were personally missinformed about there being a clothes washer and dryer, however the hosts living in the building went above and beyond to accomidated us. You best have good legs to make the 4 flights of narrow steps. The location is perfect if you want to be in the middle of the red light disctrict making it easy to go in any direction for museums and excursions. The biggest asset we had was aquiring the amsterdam pass (I Amsterdam Pass) also buy your ticket in advance from the airport and back to save cash. The view from the window is great.

BED BUGS

  • 1 of 5

The apartment is really cute and its in a good location, though a few short blocks off the Red Light District. Mark and Rob are great hosts and very accommodating. But I came home with about 10 bed bug bites.

A fantastic central studio apartment. Very clean and had everything that we needed.

  • 5 of 5

Great studio flat in the centre of Amsterdam. Quiet in the evenings. Fantastic canal view from the full length windows. Had everything that we needed. Great communication at ion with owner and we were met by Rob at the apartment who was very kind and helpful. Close to shops, restaurants and supermarket. Steep stairs which is to be expected in Amsterdam but it was worth it for the view. Great value for money. I would highly recommend staying here. We had a great time and would stay again.

Very noisy, smelly towels

  • 1 of 5

My family stayed here for three nights and I'm glad it wasn't longer. We stayed on the third floor. Stairs are steep but we expected that.

What we did not expect is for whoever was staying in the room above us to pace the floor and go up and down the stairs numerous times between the hours of 11pm and 4 am. Every night we were there. In addition, there is some sort of fraternity across the street who had a loud (constant thumping beat) party every night between about 9 pm and 2am. Needless to say we did not sleep much.

Another annoyance is that when we arrived at 2pm, which was our agreed upon time, our room hadn't been cleaned. We were allowed to leave our stuff but had to leave the room. After traveling with two young children for almost 24 hours it would have been nice to relax, take showers and possibly give them a nap.

If you are to stay here, bring your own towels! The ones provided smell like mildew, which is because they are hung dry in a damp, dark basement. And lastly, be aware that one of the men who owns/manages the house enjoys feeding about 100 pigeons and seagulls on Sunday morning around 730 am which causes quite some noise outside the building. I observed this on Sunday morning, after which I observed him throw two empty beer bottles into the canal...which is just one of her reasons the canals had trash floating in them.

I wouldn't stay here again.

Car: not necessary

Thanks to the very central location, you can discover Amsterdam easily on foot or by bike. To the Amsterdam Main Station, the 'Central Station,' you just have to walk about 10 minutes. The connections for the public transportation are very good (tram, bus, subway, regional train). The Oudezijds Achterburgwal is one of the oldest canals (waterway) in Amsterdam. The Northern part of this canal is located in the lively red light district 'de Wallen', in the Southern, quieter part there is e.g. the Amsterdam university, the listed monument Binnengasthuis and the romantic Oudemanhuispoort (book market). The accommodation is located in the middle of the canal, exactly at that spot where the lively red light district and the quieter, Southern part with the university district meet.
