Overview

Lucca House Rental Photos and Description

2 bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, sleeps 4 to 6

Il Mulinetto is a welcoming and joyous house that lifts the spirits the instant it is entered. Hidden behind a giant spruce, next to a mill stream with seasonal waterfall, the house is entirely private and tranquil. There are no other houses in sight. The old mill served the local inhabitants for generations. It has been converted into a dwelling with great care and affection in 2005 by master craftsmen using traditional materials. It has a fully equipped modern kitchen with a lava grill, dishwasher, five burner hob with oven, etc., two air conditioned, double bedrooms, one with king-sized, one with double beds, both with large, tiled en suite bathrooms, comfortable sleeping and luxurious bathing assured. There is a separate laundry with a washing machine and a dryer. The large sitting room has a stone monastery fireplace, flat screen satellite TV, and an extra sleeping area of 2 single divans with a basement shower room and WC. Fresh herbs grow in the garden area.

Natural Surroundings and Local Activities: Chestnuts can be gathered in abundance in the autumn (late October/early November) and wild porcini mushrooms can be found a few days after rain from June to October but you need to know where to look. Wild flowers grow along the roadsides. There are local festas (sagras) during the summer and the nearest one offers free food and wine. It takes place at the end of July. At others, a modest sum is charged for the theme dish of each sagra. Not many tourists attend these so that it is a pleasant peek into the Italian way of life.

Services and Restaurants: There is a supermarket about 4 km away, also a chemist and hairdresser. There are a number of restaurants within a few kms and easy reach by car.

Only 15 minutes drive from the beautiful city of Lucca.

Activities: From a nearby village it is possible to take short horse back rides or two-three day rides into the mountains. Bicycles can be hired in Lucca where it is possible to cycle round the top of the medieval city walls and through the narrow streets of the city. There are many interesting places to walk around the vicinity of Il Mulinetto where the beautiful countryside is on the doorstep.

Wonderful, peaceful, high quality property

  • 5 of 5

The approach to Il Mulinetto (up a winding country road) is as beautiful as the house itself. The location of Il Mulinetto is positively idyllic - nestled into the side of a hill with a cascading waterfall behind it. It is utterly enchanting.

The house is extremely comfortable. The living area, bedrooms and bathrooms are all spacious and comfortable and the kitchen is extremely well equipped. In truth we could find no fault with the accommodation.

Mark, the owner of Il Mulinetto is delightful and extremely welcoming and helpful. He knew we were arriving in the early evening when the supermarkets were closed, so he very kindly volunteered to go shopping for us, so that the fridge was stocked up when we arrived.

Its proximity to Lucca makes it easy to appreciate all that this charming town has to offer in terms of restaurants and shops, but it's always delight to return to the tranquillity of Il Mulinetto. We would highly recommend Il Mulinetto to anyone looking for a comfortable house in Tuscany.

Wonderful, truly magical, waterfalls and fireflies what more could sone want.

  • 4 of 5

The villa is set halfway up (well I say mountain, but hubby said its a hill) and when you turn in to the driveway your excitment starts to build, not only the look of the villa but the sound of the waterfall (which is behind the villa and rounds along the side if it )

The villa itself is entered by huge double doors and the first thing that hits you is the sight and sound of the waterfall through the open window on the back wall its simply breathtaking.

the loung is very large with high ceiling, beams and a log burner perfect just perfect.

The kitchen diner is large and well equipped, even has an indoor bbq.

The two large bedrooms each with there own bathroom and wonderful views.

on a practical side all windows has mosquito nets so can be opened at all times if you prefer not to use the aircon.

I think you have guessed, we enjoyed our stay here.

and would highly recommend you going.

the owner is an amazing gentle man with a adorable border collie called betty who make your stay perfect.

A Perfect Tuscan Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

The listing on this property perfectly described it. This is a secluded, quaint cozy home in a remote, perfect location. The kitchen is very easy to cook in and the bedrooms and bathrooms are very comfortable and updated.

I wish I had whoever cleans the house here in South Carolina, as the house was exceptionally clean and well maintained!

Mark, the owner is a true delight! He went above and beyond in all areas of service. He is definitely one of a kind!

I would recommend the property to anyone looking for a house in Tuscany!

The town of Lucca has so much to offer, I would have a hard time recommending one restaurant. If going to the Cinque Terra, I would recommend the Gambero Rosso in Vernazza. This restaurant was great and Lorenzo takes wonderful care of his customers!

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful two weeks at Il Mulinetto!

Tranquility . . .Tuscan style

  • 5 of 5

A very comfortable retreat set in the hills above Lucca. As you approach you can not envision what you will find, absolute tranquility. Mark the owner met us as we arrived and totally explained the villa and the operation of of all appliances, and assured us that if we needed anything just to call him. A slow walk around the grounds you will find olive groves, a grape arbor in full bunches of grapes at the time of our visit, which we availed ourselves of. A short walk up the hill by the villa you will find the old village church which opened up to the vistas of the valley. The villa will not disappoint you, beds very comfortable, bathrooms well appointed and great kitchen facilities. Unfortunately during our week the wifi was down, but it did not take away from our stay, actually it was rather nice not being wired. A great villa in a great location, would highly recommend.

A Happy Place in the Mountains Above Lucca

  • 5 of 5

"Ut laeta vivas hic est locus." Latin for - This is a happy place to live - is carved above the side door of this marvelous little villa in the hills above Lucca. As a former Latin student, I was in love at first sight. The house is magnificent - so comfortable and perfect for two couples who want to experience true Tuscany. The setting is perfection (once you make it up the winding mountain road from Lucca). The house is nestled into the mountain among the olive trees- quiet, peaceful and very private - and restored beautifully to provide all modern comforts but retains the character of the old olive press mill it once was. The location is convenient to many sights in Tuscany - we did day trips to Florence, Volterra, Cinque Terre and Pisa while we were there.

Mark, the owner, is a true delight to work with...wine was waiting for us in the fridge, and we had the pleasure of having drinks with him one evening on the terrace of il Mulinetto, as well as an Italian dinner one night. Mark provided us with many great recommendations, and graciously introduced us to his good friend, Paola, who conducted an Italian cooking class for us on our last night in Lucca.

This villa is so marvelous it demands at least a few weeks stay - my only regret is that we could not stay longer to balance the day trips with more down time to enjoy all the pleasures of il Mulinetto and Mark's company. Thank you Mark for you hospitality and a most perfect stay; we hope you will have us back in the future!

A little paradise in Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

The house is clean and contains all the equipment necessary for a very good stay. Nothing misses even tomatoes.

The frame is magnificent, the wonderful view and the omnipresent olive trees are beautiful.

Ideal to get fresh ideas.

One of the paradises on this earth!

Il Mulinetto di Torre is in an extremely pretty rural area not far from the walled city of Lucca. It is in the foothills of the Apuan Alps. There are many olive groves and vineyards; in fact, the house is set in its own 20 acres of olive trees and woods. There is a winery in the valley below open to visitors. For horse back riders, there is an equestrian centre nearby for rides through the woodlands and along the river for from one hour to three day treks.
