The cottages can be rented individually or together, the latter being ideal for family and friend group gatherings.
Open all year, Le Helleguy is a super retreat for relaxing summer holidays, Christmas family gatherings and out of season spring / autumn breaks.
Cottages in the hamlet of Le Helleguy are :-
LA GRANGE - 3 bedrooms (sleeps from 2 to 6/7)
La CHAUMIERE - 4 bedrooms (sleeps from 2 - 8/9)
Neil and I moved to Brittany in 2004 leaving behind a very hectic and stressful life in IT and banking! The appeal of the relaxed, family orientated, French way of life drew us to Brittany, where we found and purchased a beautiful hamlet of thatched cottages. Over the last 12 years we have enjoyed developing a successful holiday cottage business, whilst at the same time, immersing ourselves in French village life and getting to grips with the French language and all its many nuances !
Neil and Tricia Young purchased this cottage in 2004
We chose Morbihan (one of the four departments in Brittany) for a number of reasons. Firstly, the beautiful granite stone buildings had a definite appeal - each department has its own unique style fashioned by the building materials local to the area. Secondly, the beautiful undulating landscape, lush and green, very similar to Cornwall and quaint picturesque villages, reminiscent of an ‘olde worlde’ England. Another plus, the temperate climate, warmer than the south of England, but not too hot on balmy summer days, and a convenient distance, just a short two hour drive south from the northern ports of St Malo & Roscoff.
Add to the above the wonderful Breton hospitality abound in this area, a host of interesting places to visit, the beautiful Gulf of Morbihan with its many islands to explore, historical towns and medieval cities, megalithic sites and much much more and the list goes on………!
There are many plus points for choosing to holiday at Le Helleguy, in one of our two detached thatched cottages, La Chaumiere and/or La Grange :
• Located in a quite tranquil area, but within easy access of local amenities and the coast
• Both rated 4 star / 4 key by the French Tourist Board & Clevacannce and so you can be confident of the standard and quality offered in the cottages
• La Chaumiere offers ground floor accommodation with en-suite facilities if managing stairs is a problem
• The heated swimming pool has a high-tech telescopic shelter which enables indoor swimming in mild/inclement weather and the pool water is heated from 1st April until mid-November
• Spa facilities are available onsite, daily and in the evenings
• Living in the hamlet ourselves, Neil and I on hand to offer assistance and help make your stay as relaxed and hassle free as possible!
"We had a relaxing and wonderful holiday staying at Brittany Thatched Cottages. The cottages are beautifully appointed, comfortable, well equipment and very clean, distinguishing them from some other holiday rentals we have had. Neil and Trish are wonderful hosts, they're there when you need them but never intrusive. The grounds and setting are tranquil and verdant, with a myriad of walks and country lanes for cycling. The pool added welcome relief and relaxation at the end of some of the warmer days. Whether you want to stay put and read books, amble around the Brittany country side - eating crepes and drinking cider, or drive to some of the many historic towns in the region, Brittany Thatched Cottages makes a perfect vacation. Oh, and let's not forget their fabulous dog Connie - a keen, lovable and very well behaved boarder collie." Alison and Roberta (LA & London)

We had a wonderful time at this beautiful cottage this Easter. I would thoroughly recommend to anyone wishing to have a peaceful and extremely comfortable break from the hussle and bustle of everyday life. Tricia and Neil the owners are on hand and are the perfect hosts. On arrival you are treated to a beautiful basket filled with tasty goodies and on top of that all the basics you could require including tea, coffee, milk, bread, eggs, bacon to name but a few things, are there in the fully equipped luxury cottage.
We will definitely we returning to explore more of the area.
We love this property & the peaceful surroundings in which to enjoy the birdsong & the lovely gardens. The cottage is beautifully presented and well equipped and always spotlessly clean with quality furnishings & linen.
The owners are always helpful and very knowledgeable about the area.
It is well positioned for visiting many places of interest and also the coast.
There are a good selection of restaurants in the area varying from those providing good hearty food, particularly popular with the local workers at lunch time, such as La Tourelle in Melrand to Le Relais du Marquis in Plouay which provides a different kind of menu.
I would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone who enjoys the beauties of the Breton country side but with the advantage of not being too far from the facilities of a town.
A real gem of a place. Beautifully presented properties both inside and out set in picturesque grounds in an idyllic location. Neil and Tricia were perfect hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. The swimming pool was a big hit with our 16 year old son. The local crepes were delicious! We would love to go back. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed. There is plenty to see and do around and about, all within easy driving distance on uncrowded roads.
La Grange is the perfect destination for a quiet and relaxing holiday in the beautiful Brittany countryside. The cottage was a real joy to stay in. Tricia and Neil are the perfect hosts, whilst being friendly and helpful they were not at all intrusive. Living onsite they are able to give advice about local amenities, cycle routes, suggested days out, etc.
The thatched cottage has been decorated to the highest standard and has every modern convenience you could wish for. The kitchen was a pleasure to cook in having every appliance you could ever want. The lounge, bedrooms and bathrooms were all comfortable and well equipped (specially liked the dressing room off the main bedroom).
The gardens are beautiful and being so extensive it was always possible to find either a sunny spot or some shade. The pool was great and we enjoyed many barbecues in the private garden,
Le Helleguy is definitely a 5 star plus holiday home and Tricia and Neil are 5 star owners.
Everything was great for us to have a relaxing time with our children. We will definitely be coming back!
The pictures do not do this cottage justice. It looks good on the website, but it is even better in person. Tricia and Neil have done a fantastic job of renovating and maintaining their properties (cottages and grounds). Of all the holiday properties we have stayed in over the years, they are the most organised of any of them without a doubt. They have thought of just about everything - a guide to local attractions, details of the property history, a list of 500 DVDs to borrow on quiet nights, a food basket upon arrival (great when you are tired and arrive late with small children). We have a 1 year old and almost 3 year old. Provided at the cottage: a buggy, highchair, baby monitor, full size cot, stairgates (top and bottom), baby bath, baby potty, rail for the 3 year old's bed, child seats on the bicycles - they had it all! It made our lives so much easier!! The cottage is well insulated and warm, the woodburner is cozy and really works (and it is out of reach of children), the showers have good water pressure - there's nothing to complain about. We visited in Feb, so it was too cold for the pool, but we did play on the playground equipment. Tricia and Neil are very friendly and hospitable. Nothing is too much trouble. Tricia even baked us a loaf of bread at one point.
We visited several local attractions, although many things were closed due to our out of season travel dates: Market and fishmarket at Vannes (GREAT - we went twice), chateau and village of Pontivy, Suscinio Chateau, beach and prehistory museum at Carnac (warning: museum is not overly suited for small children), the 'village' of Melrand which is an actual archeological site, beach at Place des Plage (very nice), sailboat museum just outside of Vannes (very suitable for children of any age). We went on a bike ride in the local area and over to the local creperie, which was very good. Tricia and Neil offer various treatments in their property - manicures, massages, etc. I had a pedicure, back massage and facial. It was very relaxing and handy that I did not have to leave, organise someone to have the children, etc. For the first time ever, we extended our holiday. I would definitely recommend this property.
