Watchtower, inner courtyard, grotto plunge pool, sun terrace, sleeps 8+2 persons
- english, french, german, spanish, italian
I am an Englishman married to a German and living in the Black Forest. Our house is our dream.
Christopher purchased this House in 2004
Why Christopher chose Nézignan-l'Évêque
Nézignan l’Evêque was in the possession of the bishops of Agde for over 800 years and lies on a hill that gives it its typical provincial French character. Surrounded by vineyards, the sunny village has its own bakery, post office, bar, good restaurant and small grocer. The house is completely and luxuriously restored to combine historic with modern, its character of the Middle Ages remains but with all modern comforts.
What makes this House unique
Enjoy French village life in an old, but luxurious home. From the belvedere there are views over the whole region.

Incredible stay in beautiful village!
Our kids asked as soon as we arrived, is this our own castle? We had an absolutely incredible stay! We arrived later than expected, but having a lock box made it easy to get in. It was extremely hot there the first night because none of the windows had been opened, but the rest of the stay it was comfortable even with no air conditioning in most of the villa. It was truly a very special opportunity to show our friends on their first trip to Europe such an authentic and unique property. The kids bought wooden swords and had sword fights on the stairs and in the court yard, fighting to be king of the castle- Lifetime memories for sure! Thank you so much for everything!
Thank you so much Megan. Glad that you had a good time! Chris
The stay was okay.
There was a leaky toilet, the dryer did not work well, some of the light bulbs were out and needed replacing, the plunge pool was much smaller than the photos depicted.
Overall it was an okay experience given it was a 13th century home and don’t be afraid of climbing stairs!
The rules indicated that toilet paper needed to be replaced as well as soap, dish soap and laundry soap, usually included, no?
Service was a little slow and nothing was fixed during our week long stay there.
The town was breathtaking and the locals were very friendly and helpful.
Ooops, Brigitte, sorry about the problems. We will try to do better in future. Chris
C’est Magnifique !!
We enjoyed Every moment in this restored beauty !! The town is warm and friendly!! The pastries linger in our memories!! Perfect location!!! Thank you to Christopher and Brigitte for a job well done. We would love to see photos of the restoration process! Really fantastic!
Thanks so much. Glad you enjoyed ourselves!
Rare experience in 13th century house
Our party of eight was utterly enchanted by this historic, yet completely updated house. It was a rare and magical experience, from the outdoor dining all the way up the central stone stairway to the tower overlooking the village. The house was comfortable, welcoming and well-equipped. Every couple had their own space and their own bathroom which was really nice. The village was absolutely lovely and the location was perfect for exploring the area. Both Christopher and Marie were a delight to work with. We look forward to the opportunity to visit again.
Many thanks for the compliments, they are really appreciated. We are glad that you enjoyed yourselves and of course it would be a pleasure to have you back!
This is a wonderful property, well maintained and well located.Highly recommended
The property itself is a brilliant mixture of old world charm and modern convenience. It is located in a charming village quite close to Pézenas for local colour and needs and the motorway for longer day journeys to cities such as Nimes Montpellier Carcasson and Narbonne. We had 3 couples stay for 10 days and were very comfortable and well entertained. Highly recommended.
Glad you enjoyed yourselves! Chris
Lovely home, full of history.
We stayed here with family members coming and going over a 12 day period. It was a great gathering spot. Some of our adult children went to the pizza restaurant just around the corner most nights and were coaxed in their French! They enjoyed those evenings immensely! The weather was not conducive to pool use, but we did not miss it. Lots of road trips from this location. Carcassonne, St. Guilheme, La Couvertoirade, Sète, Meze. Chateau de Queribus and Peyrepertuse. And the gorges! D’Heric, de Herault, and the unforgettable drive on the Gorges de Galamus road!!! A wonderful time was had by all
So glad you enjoyed yourselves!
Nézignan l’Evêque was in the possession of the bishops of Agde for 800 years and lies on a hill that gives it its typical provincial character. The around 600 year old, fully restored house complex is situated in the quiet, listed heart of the village that is one of the rare villages built in the spiral method - so-called 'en circulade' - of the Middle Ages to defend itself better. The sunny village, surrounded by vineyards, has its own bakery, post office, bar, good restaurant and small grocer.
Only 3km away is the wonderful little town of Pézenas with its historic old town, restaurants, antique shops, weekly market and good shopping. The closest beaches are only 15km away; other long, attractive sandy beaches are between Agde and Sète as well as in the direction Narbonne - all three places well worth a visit. Inland is a wildly romantic area with canyons, caves, Lake Salagou with sailing and beautiful hiking trails in a rocky Mediterranean landscape.
Golf: Two wonderful golf courses nearby: Cap d'Agde and St Thomas
