Carefully our house, originally buildet around 1850, was completely renovated in 2008. Originally a so-called “Bassena” house (running water only outside the flat), the apartments have been renovated intelligent, loving and superior to today's living standards. Top 11, formerly two so-called room-kitchen-cabinet flats, consist now of four rooms: the former entrance / kitchen area was reclassified to an entrance, a spacious bathroom with a toilet. Further there is a Dwelling-/Cookingarea (20sqm) and at least two spacious bedrooms (25 sqm & 30sqm). From a substandard apartment, generously acting, a modern apartment has been created. This effect is reinforced by minimalistic but aestheticly high quality furnishings. Ideally for 2 - 4 persons, this apartment is capable also for up to 6 people by providing extra beds.

My name is Christian Droste, I was born in 1964. I live in this building since I was born. I am a freelance artist and musician. My wife Natalia and I run our holiday apartments since the summer of 2009.

Why Christian Droste chose Vienna City Center

Our house, a 160-year-old 'Gründerzeithaus' comes from family. My grandfather, he was a blacksmith, had his workshop here and lived here also. It is the center of our living and the center of our work. Workshop, gallery, hotel, office.

What makes this apartment unique

I was born here and I grew up here in this house. It's my belly and my brain and I love it with my whole heart. Our building is a 160 year old lady with a lot of charm in one of the most beautiful districts of Vienna.

six people covering five decades + two apartments = excellent vacation!

Schiffamtsgasse 11 was perfect for us. The location is great: a one minute walk to the metro, three minute walk to the supermarket, or a ten to fifteen minute walk to the city center (Altstadt). Both apartments, (a one and a two bedroom) were spotless, bright, airy, and full of interesting art on the walls. The bathrooms are enormous and the beds and linens very comfortable. The kitchens had all the fundamentals and then some, and the washing machine in the hallway was a piece of cake to use.

I couldn't figure out how to use the espresso machine, so Christian popped right over to show me, bringing his own one with him just in case ours didn't work, but the problem was my own ignorance, not any issue with a kitchen gadget.

Christian also has a table on the landing full of Vienna info, books, magazines, laminated articles, maps, all available to guests, in case they don't bring their own.

Some of us had breakfast around the big kitchen table every morning, but others went around the corner to the Karmelitermarkt, where there are numerous small cafes and restaurants (try Tewa, any time of day or night!).

While we sometimes took either the metro or a trolley, ultimately, if you like to walk, you can easily get to most of the Altstadt on foot: MAK, Stephansdom, the Hofburg, the Opera, Kaernerstrasse.

The trolley was good for the Belvedere and the metro is a must for Schoenbrunn.

The famous old cafes we found still worth it: Sperl and Central, each for entirely different reasons.

I would definitely recommend any of Christian's apartments to my friends. People who no longer tolerate stairs well might need a different option, but we loved being able to easily get away from the tourist-filled center and into our quiet but spacious flats.

Great holiday

We enjoyed Vienna and we enjoyed the holiday flat. It was very comfortable and well-furnished and in a great location for public transport, a baker's and a supermarket. We liked the artistic style of the flat too. Although we were out all day sightseeing it was nice to be able to come back and relax in front of the TV with plenty of space. Vienna itself is amazing and we will have to come back again to do all the things we didn't have time for. The public transport system is perfect and the food is so tasty.

Soho and Tribeca in Vienna

This apartment reminded me of a loft apartment in urban NYC or Chicago. It has hard wood floors, high ceilings, and an open floor plan. It has a modern kitchen and a nice, large, modern bathroom. This apartment was very comfortable and large enough for my family. It has some funky art work and fun furnishings. The apartment is located on the top floor and there is no elevator. It is within walking distance of the city center. There are great restaurants in the neighborhood and a wonderful park a few blocks away. Be sure to check out the Karmelitermarkt. It was advertised as a two bedroom apartment, but it would be a one bedroom in the U.S.

Super Wohnung fuer super Preis

Wunderschoene Wohnung, in der naehe von Innerestadt. Innerstadt ist zur Fuss ereichbar. Die Unterbahn ist nur zwei strassen von der wohnung. War in der wohnung fuer eine woche, super sauber und der Herr Droste war super freundlich. Eine Billa ist um die ecke und die wohnung hat alles was mann braucht.

The apartment was amazing. Super clean and walking distance from the city center. The landlord is super friendly and speaks German as well as English. The apartment is super clean, and has everything one needs. A Billa is across the street, convenient for grocery shopping.

I would recommend this place to all my friends. Great price for a great apartment.

Our apartments are located in the 2nd quarter at the “Karmeliterviertel”, only a stone's throw away from the historical city center (10 min walk). In 5 minutes you can walk to the beautiful Augarten, to relax or just visite the world famous Augarten china factory. Also nearby is the Danube Canal, which has developed into a boulevard with nice beach bars and restaurants. We should also mention the Karmelitermarkt - a meeting place for young and old, with it´s weekly Saturday farmers' market, with countless austrian organic cheese, meat and vegetable dishes and many other delicacies. Again, there are many good restaurants, bars and meeting places that are frequented by artists, all kind of people. In the Wiener Prater children and parents find traditional “Rummel” and modern attractions side by side. This is the special charm of the Prater. We have also some museums in our district. We do not write here about all the atractions of the historical center because the are known worldwide.
