Carefully our house, originally buildet around 1850, was completely renovated in 2008. Originally a so-called “Bassena” house (running water only outside the flat), the apartments have been renovated intelligent, loving and superior to today's living standards. Top 7, formerly a so-called room-kitchen-cabinet flat consists now of four rooms: the former entrance / kitchen area was reclassified to an entrance, a spacious bathroom and separate toilet. Further there is a Dwelling-/Cookingarea (20sqm) and at least a spacious bedroom (25 sqm). From a substandard apartment so generously acting, a modern apartment has been created. This effect is reinforced by minimalistic but aestheticly high quality furnishings. Ideally for 2 persons, this apartment is capable also for up to 4 people by providing extra beds.

My name is Christian Droste, I was born in 1964. I live in this building since I was born. I am a freelance artist and musician. My wife Natalia and I run our holiday apartments since the summer of 2009.

Our house, a 160-year-old 'Gründerzeithaus' comes from family. My grandfather, he was a blacksmith, had his workshop here and lived here also. It is the center of our living and the center of our work. Workshop, gallery, hotel, office.

I was born here and I grew up here in this house. It's my belly and my brain and I love it with my whole heart. Our building is a 160 year old lady with a lot of charm in one of the most beautiful districts of Vienna.

Great apartment but oh those 54 steps to reach it!
A spacious, modern apartment about 3 blocks from the Schottenring subway station.
Visitors who can't or won't climb 54 steps should avoid this place. There is NO elevator.
The owner should hire a plumber and repair the bathroom sink with its leaky pipe that drips into a bucket. Not pleasing at all.
Lovely apartment, great location
The apartment is lovely and tastefully decorated (the photos don't do it justice!). Communication with the host was easy and quick.The apartment had everything that we needed, all the necessary kitchen utensils should you wish to eat in. In general we had a very pleasant stay. It's also in a great location, close to Schottenring station where you can get the U-bahn, but also an easy walk from the city center. There's a supermarket just around the corner and a few places to eat out if you don't want to venture into the city center. We had a nice Saturday morning at the local market (Karmelitermarkt). The only slight drawback was sluggish internet, which would frequently drop out - but in the grand scheme of things this was only mildly annoying.
There are some key points one looks for while booking a home stay.
a) An experienced, efficient owner
b) A comfortable, well maintained apartment
c) Location - wrt public transport, convenience stores/ restaurants/ sights.
This apartment ticks all the boxes.
The owner, Christian, is the perfect mix you need - friendly, approachable, and yet not intrusive or persistent.
If you wish to understand a city, you need to understand it's denizens. And that does not come from living in a barren soulless hotel room, with identical features and lack of personality. You need to live in a HOME.
The myriad personal touches scattered around the apartment here testify to the importance art has in the daily life of the average Viennese. Also evident is the pride they take in their heritage, as is seen in the impeccable way Christian has maintained his centuries old building with love and care.
The apartment is clean, airy, functional, with everything you could possibly need to make your holiday pleasanter.
It is a step away from the amazingly designed subway - Vienna has a wonderfully efficient public transport system.
The supermarket next door is well stocked.
And there is Vienna! With more soul, style and character than most continents have.
Great weather, extremely pleasant, helpful and polite citizens, culture and history at every turn of the head.
Regal, opulent, strangely addictive, this city will call to you again and again.

Spacious apartment in a convenient position
The apartment was quite large and reasonably well supplied, the only extra thing we would have liked is a microwave.
It is only about a fifteen minute walk to the old city and only about two hundred metres to he underground. We found it very convenient as we were travelling without a car.
Christian, the apartment manager was most helpful and obliging.
Very Beautiful Apartment!
This is our second stay with Christian. He is a good and kind host who provides all of the information that you need. His apartments are so very well designed and his artwork is always a pleasure to see. His english is excellent, making communication both online and in person very easy. If we come back to Vienna, we will come here! So close and convenient!
six people spanning five decades, two apartments, perfection!
We rented a two bedroom and a one bedroom at Schiffamtsgasse 11 from Christian, who lives in the same building and was always available to answer any questions or help out in any way. (I was clueless about the coffee machine - he brought his own over in case the one there had a problem, it didn't, I was the problem.) Christian has a table full of info on Vienna in the hallway, in case you didn't bring your own guide books.
The apartments were spacious and spotless, great huge bathrooms, fantastic light through big windows (and also good curtains for sleeping), and a washing machine in the hallway. We personally loved all the art on the walls, too.
The metro is down the street, but the building is so close to the Altstadt that we could walk just about anywhere around town - Stephansdom, MAK, Hofburg Palace, the Opera, Kaertner Strasse - take the Saltztorbruecke (except for Schoenbrunn, which is on the line closest to home, too!).
The supermarket around the corner has everything you might need, and the Karmelitermarkt around the corner in the other direction has many little cafes and restaurants (try Tewa!). Four of us ate in every morning at the big kitchen table while two popped around the corner for coffee out.
Our personal take on the famous cafes: Sperl and Central worth it, each for entirely different reasons.
The whole experience couldn't have been any better! If you're traveling as a family, or simply want to have more space than a standard hotel room offers, this can't be beat!
Our apartments are located in the 2nd quarter at the “Karmeliterviertel”, only a stone's throw away from the historical city center (10 min walk). In 5 minutes you can walk to the beautiful Augarten, to relax or just visite the world famous Augarten china factory. Also nearby is the Danube Canal, which has developed into a boulevard with nice beach bars and restaurants. We should also mention the Karmelitermarkt - a meeting place for young and old, with it´s weekly Saturday farmers' market, with countless austrian organic cheese, meat and vegetable dishes and many other delicacies. Again, there are many good restaurants, bars and meeting places that are frequented by artists, all kind of people. In the Wiener Prater children and parents find traditional “Rummel” and modern attractions side by side. This is the special charm of the Prater. We have also some museums in our district. We do not write here about all the atractions of the historical center because the are known worldwide.
