MAGICIAN THE GREEN, BANKERS AND FILMMAKERS

Gutschow house, built in 1895, a significant work of historicism (neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance), is the symbol of the southern Friedrichstrasse because of the elaborate facade, its location and history. It is the only hotel in this area that 100% of the second World War II has survived. Perhaps because 1910-1990 was the Mecca of the magicians here by magic headquarters of the world famous magician Conradi-Horster?

2006 The Greens conjured a unique project: all tenants have received the right of first refusal for the entire house and thus the possibility in partnership with investors (first former bank directors, filmmakers later) to buy the house and rehabilitate. But why we have made use of this right? This is a part of the living past and present that you can experience. We call it MyBerlinStyle.

'Six of us - women' d'un certain age'- stayed here at the beginning of this winter and werewolf all delighted with our choice. The building is beautiful Itself, redolent of end of empire flourish, while the apartment, with the gracious proportions of at Earlier era is warm and welcoming. We loved the beautiful original wooden floors, decorative plasterwork on the the bedroom ceilings, the sense of space, as well as the terrific shower in a stylish, modern bathroom. Our internal homemakers thrilled to the quality and solidity of the linens and general fittings (and dreamy beds). The kitchen is really well equipped so we did not just eat breakfast there but some prepared meals too, though there are some good restaurants close by. The main room and the bedrooms are really roomy, not even with 6 of us did it ever feel crowded. Marion, our host in Berlin, which welcoming and gave some really useful tips on eating out and things to do, and his welcome package which chosen with care - organic and delicious.

The location is great! so close to Museum Island did it makes a very comfortable stroll before a trip to the unmissable Pergamon. But if walking's not your thing then the wonderful Berlin public transport system is accessible only 2 mins away at the Cook Street stop. Another visit you must make is to the Jewish Museum Which is so only 2 mins walk from the building. This is a great city for history and culture fans, so get booking! you will not regret choosing this apartment as your base for your explorations. But first get fit and keep your luggage minimal; there are two flights to walk up. ' (Love Curious Nelly, Rooms 11 and 12 have since 2013 by a lift.)

Could be so much better!

Staying in VRBO apartments is part of our travel enjoyment. Previous apartments have always been interesting, inviting, with many personal touches to make our stay enjoyable. Unfortunately this was not our experience with this apartment. The apartment was very stark, completely lacking in any adornment or personal touches, with nothing beyond the essentials. All of our communication with the owners was on-line. No one welcomed us to the apartment to give us information about the facilities or the surrounding area (even though they live on the same floor as the apartment). We saw the owner on our last night because they needed to collect information from us.

The good things about the apartment were the location – walking distance to many sites, spacious for a family of 6, very clean, nice bathrooms and kitchen appliances (a microwave is available but you must ask for it).

On the downside – there was inadequate comfortable seating in the living area and nothing additional to add to our comfort eg. Basic supplies: condiments, shampoo, laundry soap etc. While these are not requirements they certainly add to the comfort and enjoyment of a stay. With a little extra effort this apartment could also provide a much more positive experience.

Owner's Response: For us is very important that our guests see in pictures exactly what they book. Also we can send them additional pictures if they think they want to see more. No guest has said that the pictures shown online are different from what is in reality. Cleaning, health and high quality are what we want to offer our guests. For the sake of being able to do each time a complete cleaning we keep the decoration plain. We could meet the guest only on the last night, because we were in holidays at the sea. But all our apartments have a mobile phone and our guests can reach us anytime free of charge. If they call us, we can tell them were to find the microwave or find a solution for their needs. We programmed a mobile host application with detailed information about the apartment and its surroundings. The guests can install this on pc or smartphones. If the guests want additional information from us we are very happy to provide it. We have a key safe system so that the guests can be fully flexible with arrivals. We ask the guests to call or text us when they arrived and make an arrangements to meet. We do not offer condiments and shampoo, but organically soap for the washing machine. Per hour dryer or washing machine we ask the quests for 3 Euro. We provide free of charge: soap, dishwasher tabs, plastic bags for rubbish, dish-washing fluid, new sponge and brush for the kitchen, cosmetic-, kitchen- and toilet paper.

EXCELLENT PROPERTY

The property provided an ideal base for our one week stay. The directions and instructions for access were accurate and easy to follow. The apartment was clean, very well equipped and extremely spacious as well as being rare and interesting from architectural and historic viewpoints. The location is very convenient for daily excursions around the city and it's environs. There are good quality restaurants and shops within easy reach. It was very useful to have the use of a store for our suitcases in the apartment building on the morning of our departure. The phone provided in the flat gave us quick access to taxis (who turned up when requested) and Marian, who popped in from next door to make sure that we were comfortable and had everything that we required. Our deposit was returned to us in good time. We would certainly recommend this apartment to others, and indeed we have already done so.

Central, spacious apartment in beautiful building.

The apartment is lovely: simple but well-equipped, part of a high ceilinged historical building. Little balcony particularly nice, as was the gift of wine and flowers when we arrived. Everything on your doorstep including a large choice of restaurants and a train station to take you further into town. Another facility we appreciated was the luggage room so we could store our bags and make the most of our last day.

However, there did seem a lot of rules which seemed over-fussy and officious. Complicated instructions to get the keys, involving 2 safe combinations and a cryptic message on a dedicated mobile phone; a reminder not to chat to the cleaning lady for more than 15 minutes or we might be charged extra; how long to open the windows; put two bin bags in each bin, exhortations to leave everything 'as perfect as when you arrived', instructions about possible spillages and how to clean burnt pots. It all felt a bit unwelcoming. It seems that all these rules were for the benefit and convenience of the owner rather than a reciprocal arrangement. However, I paid 300 Euros six months before our holiday. We kept the flat very tidy, left it as we had found it (remember, we had already paid about 120 Euros for cleaning and linen) and expected our deposit to be automatically refunded. Two weeks after the end of our visit, there was no sign of it or mention of it. I had to email the owners who were on holiday and 'would look into it' when they got back. After that, another email and I finally received the deposit 19 days after our return.

Rules and responsibilities cut both ways. The day guests leave the apartment in good condition, the money should be transferred electronically and it is the owners' responsibility to do this as their part of the bargain.

Christmas in Berlin!

This is a beautiful apartment close to checkpoint Charlie and the u bahn!

Couple of points to ponder:

-no microwave

-no washcloths or dishrags

-washer/dryer in apt but costs extra to use

-no lift/elevator (3rd floor)

Overall a great place to stay. Comfortable and roomy for 7 people.

Owner's Response: Microwave: we explain online before the booking that our children doctor does not recommends. Anyway, future guests can require this by booking if this is a must for them and we will provide it. We normally provide 2 dishrags. If you there are any, please tell us and we bring them. As we live in the same house, we met the guests few times and asked if everything is OK. The answer was always yes and the dishrags were not mentioned. Also we provide a mobile phone were our guests can call us free of charge. Please call and we will do our best to improve any situation you might not be happy with. The charges for washer or dryer are 3 Euro per hour. This has been also described online before booking. No lift: as described online, this apartment has no lift, 50 steps from street level.

This is the center where most attractions are within walking distance: 2 minutes to Checkpoint Charlie (the most famous symbol of the Cold War); Jewish Museum (the most important example of contemporary architecture) is our direct neighbor; 15 minutes Martin Gropius Bau (the main exhibition space); 20 minutes to the Potsdamer Platz (most popular attractions of the New Berlin); 15 minutes to the Gendarmenmarkt (one of the most beautiful market places); 30 minutes to the Brandenburg Gate (the symbol reunification) and the Reichstag (known landmarks); 30 minutes to Museum Island (UNESCO World Heritage) with: Altes Museum, Neues Museum, Old National Gallery, Bode Museum and Pergamon Museum. At Hallesches Tor (3 minutes) is the dock for Berlin's most popular boat tour: the bridge tour.
