Deep in the heart of the barrier islands - St. Helena an area rich with Gullah Culture, low country plantations, seafood festivals, and Civil War history. Come enjoy a uniqueness you will treasure forever. Carriage tours through Beaufort, South Carolina's second oldest city, seafood fresh off the shrimp boats, scenes from Pat Conroy's books. It is all here in the Low Country.

A cozy guest cottage located on two wooded acres shaded by huge live oaks and cooled by gentle marsh breezes. Park like grounds with 300'marsh frontage on a tidal creek where you might see dolphin swim by. . All just steps from your private pool and front door. PERFECT FOR A TWOSOME OR SMALL FAMILY.( Children over 10 yrs welcome )-

Pets, too, enjoy their vacation with family. They have full run of 2 (two) fenced acres. Need to walk your dog in the early morning?? Just open the door and let him/her out. Comfortable furnishings in this cozy, well maintained, guest cottage have you feeling right at home. The recliner is sure to lull you to sleep while watching your favorite movie on the SMART TV. Or perhaps sitting in the living room with the glass sliding doors fully open to the porch will capture all the fresh air and sounds.

If you enjoy awakening to glorious sunrises, seeing the moon's reflection on the water, listening to the marsh night creatures, or dining poolside... THIS IS THE COTTAGE FOR YOU. Relaxing, scenic, and private, 'It's difficult to tear oneself away from this setting', I have been told. HONEYMOONERS TAKE NOTICE.... IT IS SPECIAL !!!!

Beaufort with its interesting shops and galleries is 12 miles away and Hilton Head,Savannah, and Charleston are nearby for day trips of sightseeing.

Have you ever eaten a Shrimpburger??? Beaufort area is famous for them. Try the Shrimp Shack ,casual and fun....Panini's-Bay St, Italian food...Plums great crabcakes...Boondocks nightly specials ...Foolish Frog's steaks and chops.... Saltus- Wren and Breakwater , all 3 lovely and elegant for fine dining. And we have the Shrimp Festival in season.

For the athletic types - Running, Walking, and Biking are perfect with low country flatness. Great for cyclists ...there is an active bicycle club on the island. Golfers have a choice of five semi-private courses within 20 minutes of the cottage. (Our private courses are open to reciprocal members with a call from your Head Pro). Presently working part time in a golf Pro Shop at a nearby Gated Community. Previously flew internationally as a Flight Attendant for 30 years with PAN AMERICAN AIRWAYS. Also had a private pilot license and flew our 114 Rockwell Commander , along with my husband,to various locations for dinner , golf, and vacations. My life now revolves around my 5 rescued dogs (of various breeds) and the COZY COTTAGE. I also have a rental unit in the North Carolina Mountains.

JO ANN MOORE purchased this cottage in 1992

Why JO ANN MOORE chose Beaufort area

My husband and I retired from the Pocono Mtns of Penna to the Low Country of South Carolina where we enjoyed golf and warmer weather. We bought our 2 acre property because of the magnificent live oak trees and marsh view. The home is a true low country design including a metal roof and then he built a matching guest cottage to accomodate our visiting family members. We loved the charm of nearby Beaufort and the proximity of Charleston and Savannah.

What makes this cottage unique

The luxury of privacy and quietness which is unique these days !!! The pool and courtyard area are for your use exclusively If you have a boat there is a ramp across the road for putting your boat in the water. Also I furnish 2 bicycles . and a pass for the beach at the State Park.

Retreat Heaven... With Dogs!

  • 5 of 5

I was looking for a winter retreat that would accommodate a 100lb. gentle giant of a dog and JoAnn's lovely property fit perfectly. From the huge fenced yard to the three new dog friends he made, Baxter loved his time on St. Helena Island. JoAnn generously included Baxter in her daily dog walks while Bubba and Jingle Bells made themselves at home in my cottage. As for me, even in January, I loved being on the marsh, on the island, and in the area. The only disappointment was the damage done to Hunting Island State Park by the recent Hurricane Matthew kept the park closed. We found other walks but they required more driving.

The cottage is exactly as shown and the exterior is being spruced up. JoAnn is lovely, welcoming, friendly and accommodating. Although we were across the patio from her home, we had our privacy and lots of visits from sweet dogs. My only suggestions for improvement that would make a longer term stay even better are a firm mattress in the bedroom. I have a fused spine and the mattress could definitely use an upgrade although for a weekend, it's serviceable. The same could be said for the living room couch which has sagged nearly to the floor. Likely short-term guests wouldn't be bothered as they're outdoors most of the time, but in January, it was not comfortable. The best feature by far is the marsh! Waking up to a sunrise over the marsh and sunlight streaming in was absolutely the best. I'm looking forward to a longer return visit next winter. Thanks JoAnn for welcoming Baxter and me.

Owner's Response: Always nice to hear my guests were pleased with their stay. As for the mattress, I will inquire from the next few guests who will be coming shortly . It is a 7 yr old Spring Air and supposedly designed to enhance spinal support. They say to change mattresses after 8 yrs Of course the size, and particular back problem ,of the guest will be important to their comfort. The sofa will be investigated as I see where the upholstery has been ripped very recently . The design is quite low also. I do allow pets in the cottage and believe they play a part in some unreported furniture damage. I thank the guest for constructive information

A Cozy Cottage Indeed

  • 5 of 5

Staying at this cottage was a unique experience, and we truly enjoyed our stay. It is such a peaceful place and the views are fantastic. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed. JoAnn, who is a delightful person, was very helpful with information about the area. She also put us in touch with a couple of local realtors since we are considering retiring in the area. The fenced yard was fabulous for our dog and he had a great vacation! There is lots of room to walk on the neighborhood streets, which we enjoyed daily. The beach at Hunting Island is a very short drive away, and we appreciated having the pass which we used several times. There are also various good restaurants nearby, as well as places to buy fresh local fish to cook. We definitely hope to return in the future!

A wonderful place in the marshes

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I have vacationed in the Low Country for more than 20 years. Our stay at the Cozy Cottage was the best yet. The location is perfect, 10 minutes from one of the country's best beaches at Hunting Island and 15 minutes from Beaufort with shops and restaurants. We felt at home in this nicely decorated cottage after only a few hours. We couldn't have asked for better hosts than JoAnn and her crew (Riley, Jingles, Camie, Ralph and Bubba). In addition to being a lovely person, JoAnn was a great source of local knowledge for us. It was hard to leave.

beautiful oasis!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is a gem and is very quiet and private! It's a perfect romantic getaway and the private pool and closeness to the beach is a huge bonus! JoAnn was the perfect host and it was wonderful to be able to bring our dog with us and let him run around the property. It's hard to pick our favorite part of the trip, lazing in the pool, sitting on the dock to watch the stars or thunderstorms rolling in, two lovely dinners in Beaufort, the beach and a day exploring Savannah and some local all added up to a very memorable trip! We would highly recommend the cozy cottage to everyone!

awesome place to stay

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was everything it was advertised to be, and then some, we found ourselves not wanting to venture out. The weather was perfect, the views gorgeous, the peace and quiet devine, the owner Joann has thought of everything, and is just a delight to visit with, our dogs enjoyed playing with hers too. The purpose of our trip was some very needed R & R, next time we will book a longer stay, we have found our new favorite spot in St. Helena. Thanks Joann : )
