Also had a private pilot license and flew our 114 Rockwell Commander , along with my husband,to various locations for dinner , golf, and vacations. My life now revolves around my 5 rescued dogs (of various breeds) and the COZY COTTAGE. I also have a rental unit in the North Carolina Mountains.
JO ANN MOORE purchased this Cottage in 1992
Why JO ANN MOORE chose Saint Helena Island
My husband and I retired from the Pocono Mtns of Penna to the Low Country of South Carolina where we enjoyed golf and warmer weather. We bought our 2 acre property because of the magnificent live oak trees and marsh view. The home is a true low country design including a metal roof and then he built a matching guest cottage to accomodate our visiting family members. We loved the charm of nearby Beaufort and the proximity of Charleston and Savannah.
What makes this Cottage unique

Beautiful location, quaint cottage, lovely owner
Joanne is a wonderful host. The cottage is extremely well kept and convenient to everything. Very dog friendly too.
We love dogs here and they seem to have such a good time running freely around the property of 1.8 fenced acres. I think they enjoy their vacation as much as their owners !!!
. Nice that Beaufort is a dog friendly town too. There are several restaurants with outdoor patios where dogs are allowed on leash. Also Hunting Island State Park allows dogs on leash. No need for FIDO to stay home in a kennel and miss his family!!!
Well kept, nicely appointed, and peaceful. Short drive to Hunting Island, Beaufort, restaurants, historic sites. JoAnn was a gracious host. We really enjoyed our stay. Joe G
Wonderfully quiet and relaxed
We totally loved our stay. JoAnn became a friend. This was a perfect place for us and our dog Lulu. We were in the state park multiple times as well as all of the local attractions and restaurants.
This month of April is the last month of the COZY COTTAGE as a rental. It is with sadness that I leave because I have had such wonderful guests over the past 16 years. Many who were returnees and many first timers. The cottage was built by my husband,George, with tender loving care. Although he passed away 2 years after it was completed guests loved and enjoyed the cottage thanks to him. I am retiring to the mountains of North Carolina for my final move. Bubba and Smidge, my new cat, will accompany me. We are looking forward to the extreme change of location. Thank you all for your friendship.
Enjoyed the stay, wish it could have been longer
Low country peaceful charm... hospitality dripping from the Spanish moss in the giant oaks. Love!
Very clean and tidy. We stayed for our 15th anniversary along with our two boys and two dogs. The surroundings were delightful, the pool an incredible plus (even for the dogs). Great birding on property as well as a fenced yard for dogs. Easy to get to beach... Hunting Island very near. Amazing food in multiple directions and very near. Local seafood from Bradley's that we cooked in cottage was delish. Dockside and Sweetgrass restaurants were both yum. JCs tavern was quite charming and unique. We'd stay here again for sure.... thiscwas our first VRBO experience so we weren't sure what to expect. All in all, we were super happy and everyone had a great time-- dogs included. Joann, the owner, was very helpful and obviously has worked hard to keep the place lovely.
The COZY COTTAGE is really a spot for romantics- private, peaceful , and pure beauty . However families who visit always have a wonderful time. The pool is so refreshing after a day of touring...difficult not to jump in. Beach dwellers are only 6 miles from Hunting Island Beach which also offers hiking trails. And 4 legged family members are free to participate in all these activites. Perfect !!!
Best anniversary vacation ever!
I am so glad I found this cozy little cottage on VRBO. We have been to this area several times and this was by far the best trip we have ever had to this area. We were so thankful JoAnne allowed us to bring our little Bella. She loved it and had the best time running around the fenced in yard and go swimming in the pool. She also enjoyed spending a little time with JoAnne's 3 dogs, esp Bubba. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the cottage. It was the perfect size for my hubby and I, and Bella. I would not change anything about it. The trees are absolutely amazing and they make such beautiful pictures for some wonderful memories. And we took lots of pics. The seafood in this area is wonderful. We visited several restaurants JoAnne recommended and enjoyed every place we ate. We even brought fresh seafood home to enjoy with our family. The beaches are some of the prettiest we have ever seen. Just love going to Hunting Island and exploring for shells, etc. We love coming to St. Helena/Beaufort area and have even considered moving here after hubby retires. I just really can't say enough about this area and the beautiful cottage we stayed in. Thanks again JoAnne for your wonderful hospitality and the helpful information about the area. As we said upon leaving, we will definitely be back to visit.
What is not to love about Beaufort and St Helena Island?? The area is full of charm and history. Carriage tours through Beaufort, Kayak tours to ACE BASIN, Horseback riding on the beach ,and Golf aplenty!!! Did I mention the fresh caught seafood ? Hard to go wrong ordering shrimp in any of the ways they cook it here. Shrimp burgers are my favorite!!
