Deep in the heart of the barrier islands - St. Helena an area rich with Gullah Culture, low country plantations, seafood festivals, and Civil War history. Come enjoy a uniqueness you will treasure forever. Carriage tours through Beaufort, South Carolina's second oldest city, seafood fresh off the shrimp boats, scenes from Pat Conroy's books. It is all here in the Low Country.

A cozy guest cottage located on two wooded acres shaded by huge live oaks and cooled by gentle marsh breezes. Park like grounds with 300'marsh frontage on a tidal creek where you might see dolphin swim by. . All just steps from your private pool and front door. PERFECT FOR A TWOSOME OR SMALL FAMILY.( Children over 10 yrs welcome )-

Pets, too, enjoy their vacation with family. They have full run of 2 (two) fenced acres. Need to walk your dog in the early morning?? Just open the door and let him/her out. Unlike the gated communities-where they have STRICT leash laws your FIDO can run, play and be a DOG here. What a life !!!! FYI a pet door was added NOV 2009. PET FEE PAID SEPARATELY BASED ON NUMBER OF PETS AND SIZE

Comfortable furnishings in this cozy, well maintained, guest cottage have you feeling right at home. The recliner is sure to lull you to sleep while watching your favorite movie on the SMART TV. Or perhaps sitting in the living room with the glass sliding doors fully open to the porch will capture all the fresh air and sounds.

If you enjoy awakening to glorious sunrises, seeing the moon's reflection on the water, listening to the marsh night creatures, or dining poolside... THIS IS THE COTTAGE FOR YOU. Relaxing, scenic, and private, 'It's difficult to tear oneself away from this setting', I have been told. HONEYMOONERS TAKE NOTICE.... IT IS SPECIAL !!!!

Beaufort with its interesting shops and galleries is 12 miles away and Hilton Head,Savannah, and Charleston are nearby for day trips of sightseeing.

Have you ever eaten a Shrimpburger??? Beaufort area is famous for them. Try the Shrimp Shack ,casual and fun....Panini's-Bay St, Italian food...Plums great crabcakes...Boondocks nightly specials ...Foolish Frog's steaks and chops.... Saltus- Wren and Breakwater , all 3 lovely and elegant for fine dining. And we have the Shrimp Festival in season.

For the athletic types - Running, Walking, and Biking are perfect with low country flatness. Great for cyclists ...there is an active bicycle club on the island. Golfers have a choice of five semi-private courses within 20 minutes of the cottage. (Our private courses are open to reciprocal members with a call from your Head Pro). And Hilton Head, just 45 minutes away, abounds with golf courses.

St Helena Island and the Low Country offer something for everyone. Call now for reservations. Gay friendly

Presently working part time in a golf Pro Shop at a nearby Gated Community. Previously flew internationally as a Flight Attendant for 30 years with PAN AMERICAN AIRWAYS. Also had a private pilot license and flew our 114 Rockwell Commander , along with my husband,to various locations for dinner , golf, and vacations. My life now revolves around my 5 rescued dogs (of various breeds) and the COZY COTTAGE. I also have a rental unit in the North Carolina Mountains.

JO ANN MOORE purchased this cottage in 1992

Why JO ANN MOORE chose Beaufort area

My husband and I retired from the Pocono Mtns of Penna to the Low Country of South Carolina where we enjoyed golf and warmer weather. We bought our 2 acre property because of the magnificent live oak trees and marsh view. The home is a true low country design including a metal roof and then he built a matching guest cottage to accomodate our visiting family members. We loved the charm of nearby Beaufort and the proximity of Charleston and Savannah.

What makes this cottage unique

The luxury of privacy and quietness which is unique these days !!! The pool and courtyard area are for your use exclusively If you have a boat there is a ramp across the road for putting your boat in the water. and a pass for the beach at the State Park.

Gay friendly

Low country peaceful charm... hospitality dripping from the Spanish moss in the giant oaks. Love!

Very clean and tidy. We stayed for our 15th anniversary along with our two boys and two dogs. The surroundings were delightful, the pool an incredible plus (even for the dogs). Great birding on property as well as a fenced yard for dogs. Easy to get to beach... Hunting Island very near. Amazing food in multiple directions and very near. Local seafood from Bradley's that we cooked in cottage was delish. Dockside and Sweetgrass restaurants were both yum. JCs tavern was quite charming and unique. We'd stay here again for sure.... thiscwas our first VRBO experience so we weren't sure what to expect. All in all, we were super happy and everyone had a great time-- dogs included. Joann, the owner, was very helpful and obviously has worked hard to keep the place lovely.

Owner's Response: The COZY COTTAGE is really a spot for romantics- private, peaceful , and pure beauty . However families who visit always have a wonderful time. The pool is so refreshing after a day of touring...difficult not to jump in. Beach dwellers are only 6 miles from Hunting Island Beach which also offers hiking trails. And 4 legged family members are free to participate in all these activites. Perfect !!!

Best anniversary vacation ever!

  • 5 of 5

I am so glad I found this cozy little cottage on VRBO. We have been to this area several times and this was by far the best trip we have ever had to this area. We were so thankful JoAnne allowed us to bring our little Bella. She loved it and had the best time running around the fenced in yard and go swimming in the pool. She also enjoyed spending a little time with JoAnne's 3 dogs, esp Bubba. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the cottage. It was the perfect size for my hubby and I, and Bella. I would not change anything about it. The trees are absolutely amazing and they make such beautiful pictures for some wonderful memories. And we took lots of pics. The seafood in this area is wonderful. We visited several restaurants JoAnne recommended and enjoyed every place we ate. We even brought fresh seafood home to enjoy with our family. The beaches are some of the prettiest we have ever seen. Just love going to Hunting Island and exploring for shells, etc. We love coming to St. Helena/Beaufort area and have even considered moving here after hubby retires. I just really can't say enough about this area and the beautiful cottage we stayed in. Thanks again JoAnne for your wonderful hospitality and the helpful information about the area. As we said upon leaving, we will definitely be back to visit.

Owner's Response: What is not to love about Beaufort and St Helena Island?? The area is full of charm and history. Carriage tours through Beaufort, Kayak tours to ACE BASIN, Horseback riding on the beach ,and Golf aplenty!!! Did I mention the fresh caught seafood ? Hard to go wrong ordering shrimp in any of the ways they cook it here. Shrimp burgers are my favorite!!

We loved everything about this cottage and location. We can honestly say this was the best vacation we've ever had. The cottage is so private and perfect with magical views of the marsh and nature. We could count on our hands the number of other people on the beach with us when we were there. Everyone was so friendly. Joanne was just a delight and so welcoming to us . We will be coming back again next year. We highly recommend this place to anyone.

Owner's Response: HUNTING ISLAND STATE PARK was finally able to open after hurricane Matthew much to the pleasure of beach goers and nature lovers. Although just sitting on my property allows one to enjoy many birds, see dolphins swim by on occasion, and listen to the oysters . Yesterday afternoon a deer was grazing on my lawn. ( Not a good idea as I have 3 dogs) VERY PEACEFUL.
