The property is wonderful for a true get away from it all. The hosts are both lovely people who cannot do enough for you but who give you all the space you require. We received the most fantastic welcome basket. The pool was great. The Hi Fi and TV were also very welcome in the evenings with lots of choice.
We have been before and would recommend it very highly to anyone looking for a truly tranquil break.
Lovely place, owners are very welcoming and helpful. Will definitely be returning soon!
Lovely period property, well furnished and equipped, fantastic pool in peaceful location
We stayed at Graham and Sarah’s property just last week with our two young children and had a lovely, peaceful and relaxing time.
The property itself was renovated from ruins approx 10+ years ago and had so much charm. The standard is high compared to other places we have rented and the pool is just fantastic for energetic children to lose some energy.
The location is idyllic if you are looking to get away from it all and spend some time together as a family, but also have access to the attractions of the Dordogne - we drove out to Sarlat, Bergerac and a couple of other local markets which were all delightful.
Graham and Sarah are excellent hosts, the addition of a welcome hamper / grocery shop is great and it was like belt to have a cold bottle of wine awaiting us after our long drive.
Overall I would highly reccomend this property for those looking to get away from it all and we look forward to coming back again in the future
Lovely villa, great holiday!
Set in a beautiful and tranquil spot, the villa made for a wonderfully relaxing holiday for the family. The kids had hours of fun in the heated pool, adults and grandparents enjoyed lazy afternoons in the sun, reading, swimming and watching the kids have fun. We liked the garden, there was ample room for games, and view was also great.
Inside, the property was well maintained and equipped, in fact the downstairs was very spacious with a large open plan kitchen dining a sitting area, and a lovely separate large lounge. Upstairs, the master bedroom was big with a great ensuite. The other rooms were quite a bit smaller, but perfectly adequate (we would have have found a little more storage useful). The air conditioning certainly helped to make sure we all had comfortable sleep at night!
Graham and Sarah were great to deal with, very responsive and helpful. And the welcome hamper was fabulous, we haven’t had anything quite like this before!! All in all, we would highly recommend the villa.
Thanks, Graham and Sarah, we had a great time, would love to have stayed longer!
We have just returned from a wonderful week staying at Graham and Sarah's house. With three young boys under 6, this was the perfect place for us - somewhere private with a child friendly pool and a huge garden (complete with boules, football and a badminton set) for them to run around. Graham and Sarah left the most wonderful welcome pack - wine, cheese, meats and bread etc - and greeted us on arrival.
The house is really well equipped, with lovely comfy beds, air con in the bedrooms, a gorgeous bathroom and a brilliant music system (complete with thousands of songs). We ended up dancing in the kitchen most nights after dinner. The house is at the top of a lane with a farm next door. We took regular walks down to the farm after dinner to meet the animals, which the boys loved.
The surrounding countryside is gorgeous - all sunflower fields, picturesque villages and hay bales. We enjoyed some great day trips - St Emillion and Bergerac - as well as a private tour round the nearby Chateau de Montreal (well worth a visit). Mussidan has a great bakery and supermarket.
We had several BBQs out of the terrace, as well as having a wonderful meal at the restaurant in nearby Issac (the goats cheese salad is incredible) - which was all very relaxed and child friendly. We also enjoyed some lovely early evening drives to nearby Villemblard (for takeaway pizzas) and St Astier, which has a lovely church and square.
Graham and Sarah were the perfect hosts - there if we needed them, but otherwise, totally unintrusive. We all enjoyed a glass of champagne on the terrace on our last night.
We would DEFINITELY come back and have recommended this gorgeous place to all our friends.
The perfect (and cool) escape
We were looking for a luxury villa away from it all after weeks of exam revision with the kids and Maison De Nicola did not disappoint. The photos of the property looked fabulous so we booked up a week in July, and we're so glad we did. From the moment we arrived we felt relaxed, thanks in no small part to the warm welcome we received from owners Graham and Sarah and their now legendary welcome pack brimming with wine, cheese and other local delights.
The house is set in spacious grounds with nothing overlooking it, so it is entirely private, even though Graham and Sarah live nearby. The pool is gorgeous and warm - when they say it is heated, they're not kidding. The comfortable sunbeds provided the perfect place to read and sleep (and have a beer!) or watch the kids messing about in the water.
The house itself is very luxurious - large open plan rooms downstairs with sumptuous sofas and a well equipped kitchen. It also has an amazing multi-room CD player - just don't forget your favourite CDs, although there are plenty in the house. To have music wafting over to the pool was a lovely addition.
The bedrooms are in the roof space and so often in the past we have stayed in houses where it is too hot to sleep. Not the case at Maison De Nicola. Graham and Sarah have installed very high quality air conditioning with separate units in each of the bedrooms. Turn them on and in 10 minutes, the rooms were cool which meant we all slept incredibly well, impressive given it was over 30 degrees outside.
I have to say, the addition of air con really did place this villa in the top bracket for us, just knowing that however hot it gets, you know you can cool off. For parents with very small kids, that is a godsend!
The area around the house is delightful, with a Super U just 10 mins away. Bergerac is only 25 mins down a country road with its lovely old town and restaurants, and if you really want to tear yourself away from that pool, the stunning towns of Sarlat (and surrounding sights) and Saint Emillion are close enough for a day trip. We flew to Bordeaux (easyJet) and rented a car, and it was one of easiest trips we have ever had.
So would we recommend Maison De Nicola? Absolutely 100%. The combination of the rural setting, the pool, the luxury and of course the air con, makes this a house of very happy memories. We intend to return. Cheers Graham and Sarah
Issac is situated in a beautiful part of the Dordogne surrounded by beautiful countryside and many places of interest to visit nearby, Bergerac airport is about 20 km away but also a beautiful place to eat with many restaurants to be found in the little side streets that are full of charm. There are also some good golf courses and plenty of other activities to be found. Bordeaux is about 1 hours drive away with vineyards plentiful.
