Great location and hospitality

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the large apartment on the second floor for 5 days in September 2016. The home is located on the edge of a small village, Waltershofen, in a wonderful area of Germany. The apartment was compact, comfortable, and well maintained. We enjoyed the balcony, and had lovely views of the property. The owners, Baerbel and Hansjorg were friendly, informative, and helpful. We found so much to do and see in this area. We enjoyed renting e-bikes in Endingen, and riding through the vineyards, and along the Rhine River. We would definitely like to return to this apartment.

Excellent apartment, location and hosts

  • 5 of 5

We chose this accommodation for our holiday due to it's location and what it looked like it would offer, having viewed the website for the property. We were not disappointed.

It is situated on the edge of the small, very friendly village of Waltershofen, which has a bakery, general store for meat etc., banking facilities and a couple of Guesthouses with restaurants. It is in a peaceful setting, adjacent to its own vineyard, with views over the local area.

The apartment has free wi fi, was clean, comfortable with a good standard of cooking equipment and utensils provided. The shower was excellent. Washing facilities are also available.

Baerbel and her husband (the hosts) were extremely friendly and helpful. She has a good knowledge of english. We took one her guided tours on the history of the area and its plant life which we found very interesting.

The accommodation is perfectly situated to enable you to easily travel to and visit, a wide range of places ( The Black Forest, numerous historic German towns, Alsace (France), Basel (Switzerland), but you will obviously need a car to do what we did. In the 2 weeks we did not manage to see everything we would have liked to.

However there are good local bus services from Waltershofen into Freiberg and the local villages. If you have bikes there is an network of off road routes in the area and there are excellent outdoor swimming pools in the adjacent villages.

I would not hesitate to recommend this accommodation to anybody, we had a brilliant holiday.

Lovely apartment and hosts

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 stayed here for 2 weeks and really enjoyed our holiday.

The apartment has all the facilities you need on holiday including wi-fi and is located just outside the village of Waltershofen. The village has a bakery, general store, 2 pubs and 2 ATMs.

Our hosts were charming and very helpful with a great knowledge of the local area and all its attractions.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and loved this region of Germany. We would highly recommend the apartment and the lovely people who own it.

Lovely apartment with amazing hosts

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to take a short relaxing break from our trip through Europe and to spend some time at the countryside - and we chose just the perfect place for it! The apartment is spacious with a fully equipped kitchen and a lovely view over green hills and vineyards. A big plus is the balcony were we enjoyed the nice weather and tried some tasty regional vine.

Our host Barbel was very helpful with tips and knows a lot about local history and geopraphics. We took some great trips to the black forest and visitied sleepy villages nearby. The kids loved the little playground next to the apartment and all the little things they could discover around the house.

Barbel's and Hansjorg's home is located a little bit outside the village and a very quiet and peaceful place. Even after only one weekend we felt relaxed and and left fully recharged to embark on a new adventure in france!

I would definitely recommend this place, great value for money, perfect (and safe!) for kids and english-speaking, friendly hosts.

A Must Stay!

  • 5 of 5

If you enjoy rest & relaxation in an apartment, not a small hotel room, very hospitable & friendly hosts, not an impersonal Tourist Desk, and love being in a small picturesque village - This Is For You!

The apartment is well stocked for cooking for yourself. It is clean and the rooms are ample for a week or so. 1 double bedroom, one single bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom, plus a balcony and plenty of parking right in front of the apartment. We loved sitting on the balcony and eating dinner overlooking the town and vineyard.

Nearest Supermarket is Aldi in Umkirch. Note that Aldi in Germany don't accept Credit Cards - other supermarkets do.

We are a family of 3 (2 adults + teenage girl) and stayed upstairs (which would be my preference) for 5 nights. We didn't look in downstairs.

The village is well placed for day trips to France, Black Forest Walks, Freiburg and Europa Park (go midweek).

Barbel and Hans are very helpful and friendly. They were very busy preparing for a special birthday and still had plenty of time to talk and help us find things to do. They even invited us to join their party, which could not be heard at all once inside our apartment. (Parties like this happen once in a decade!) Their friends were also very friendly and made us feel welcome.

You will need a car, but bikes can be hired in the nearby village of Umkirch (9 Euros a day). There are lots of bike paths. Umkirch also has a really nice outdoor seated café in the village square.

Very much value for money!

We are located between the Black Forest and the Vosges Mountains on the outskirts of Freiburg in the district Waltershofen in a central location for many leisure activities. You can visit the historic old town with the cathedral or take a stroll. Directly from the house in the Tuniberg and a few kilometers further in Kaiserstuhl you can reach many hiking trails with theme paths through vineyards, forests and over mountains with views of the Rhine Valley and the Black Forest. And again and again there are rest stops in ostriches and Baden guesthouses. Visit Breisach am Rhein or the nature reserve Taubergießen. Also in the nearby Black Forest, there are an infinite number of attractions that are waiting for you. For example, Feldberg, Hinterzarten, Titisee, Schluchsee, Glottertal, St. Margen and St. Peter, Colmar or the European city of Strasbourg in the nearby Alsace have a special flair. And if you want to stand out once and want to forget time and space, then visit the Europa Park in Rust (30 mins).

Other Activities: Jogging, Nordic Walking
