About the property

Affordable and clean rental in paradise located close to the ocean

It is located on the first floor and includes 546 sf of living space that encompasses a living room, a bedroom with a King Cal. bed, a full bath, and exclusive outdoor patio space. There is a twin sized bed that doubles as a couch in the living room for a child or another adult. It has it's own private entrance with ample parking on-site with your caretaker residing on premises for your convenience.

Here you can enjoy an ocean view and breezes from the tropical trade winds. At night you will be serenaded by the sounds of the coqui frogs. The cliffs of Kaloli Point and the ocean are only a brisk 5 minute walk away. You can take in the expansive ocean views, enjoy the pleasant trade winds and watch for whales. Kaloli point is the location of an ancient Hawaiian fishing village of which you can still see evidence of this ancient village to this day.

About John Akagi

Counselor and practicing artist. Maria is a para-professional tutor with ESL dept. It was not by design to transform our spare room into a rental, but typical of a teacher, wanted to lend a helping hand improve the quality of life and make a positive impact on the lives of others. I built a guest room for visiting family and friends, but it became a way to provide affordable accommodations for vacationers and sincere desire to make your Hawaiian vacation experience a memorable one.

John Akagi purchased this studio in 2010

Why John Akagi chose Hawaii

Many rental properties are operated by owners living on the mainland, many without in depth knowledge of the lands and people of Hawaii. Because the owner is on property, Your concerns and questions will be addressed immediately with the spirit of aloha.

What makes this studio unique

It's always nice to have a quiet, comfortable place to retreat to after a busy day of taking in new sites. We can talk story and share our traveling experiences. We will do our best to answer any questions you may have; but if you desire total privacy, we can accommodate that as well. Aloha!

Friendly hosts and comfortable stay

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was wonderful. The check-in was easy and the place felt like home. The hosts, John and his wife, had drinks, toiletries, and even a cooler available to use free of charge. The bed was comfortable and the linens were soft. The shower lacked a bit of pressure but was clean. The TV was equipped with Nexflix and anything else your heart desires. I would recommend staying with these welcoming hosts!

Clean, well stocked, and comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

John and Maria have thought of everything in preparing their rental. They had snorkeling gear, boogie boards, pool noodles, towels, caving gear, sunscreen, insect repellant, sunburn relief, and a big selection of movies to use. They also had chocolates, some sodas, and bottled water. We were out exploring the island most of the time, so we weren't there much. When we did see John & Maria they were helpful with knowledge of Island activities. It's outside of town and the hustle bustle of the city, which we liked.

Very friendly and all accommodating

  • 5 of 5

John and maria are fantastic hosts. They provided everything we needed and much much more to make our stay very pleasent. They were very welcoming and friendly, down to earth people. We loved how they were so thoughtful about making their place really welcoming, clean and homely. They had snorkelling gear, canoe, head lamps (perfect for hiking to the volcano lava), sunscreen and sunburn relief (which I had to use unfortunately), insect repellent, complementary drinks, chocolates, esky for our day trips, lots of DVDs/blue rays , books, coffee, condiments, etc. and so much more! Location was superb - peaceful, close to makuu farmers market and Hilo's Richardson ocean park where you will see lots of turtles (we went all over the big island and did not see so many turtles until John recommended us to go there on our last day, we literally had 10min to enjoy the amazing park before we had to fly). Also did I say, close to volcanos!. To sum up, this is the best Airbnb / VRBO we have ever stayed in and we thought our 5 night stay was too short to enjoy all the wonders this place had to offer.

Lovely homely feel

  • 5 of 5

Very clean, comfort, calm, nice location to trip Hilo, volcano national park and nice snorkeling spots. We can feel their subtle (invisible) warm care although we were very busy touring BIG island all day. Thanks again and hope you will also have a good time in Korea next year. :-)
