Why Michael and Joli Allison chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

The view, the view, and the view. Oh, and did we mention the view? While you can make day trips fairly quickly and easily to area attractions, this cabin is located in a wilderness community and is perfect for those who wish to "get away from it all".

Great Remote Property

  • 5 of 5

Great property around 2300 feet above sea level. Heed the reviews about 4WD especially in winter months or with a light vehicle because of the steep slopes. The property owners provided firewood and everything was ready for us to move in and stay comfortably. The hot tub on the upper deck was great at night with a million stars in the sky. My eight year old daughter just wanted to stay in the hot tub the whole time !! Easy drive to Lake Lure and Chimney Rock from the cabin. Super place to get away and read a book or just be away from the city for a long weekend. At night you feel like you are only people on the mountain but you can see for miles. Very clean and highly recommend that you give it a shot.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for staying with us! We deeply appreciate your kind words about our cabin, and are thrilled that you enjoyed spending time there with your family. We feel the exact same way as your daughter does about the hot tub and the stars at night. It is a magical experience. You are welcome to stay with us anytime. We'd love to have you back! :-)

Worth the drive up the mountain!

  • 5 of 5

Heed the warnings and take a 4WD or AWD vehicle, my wife's 2015 Santa Fe (two wheel drive with a 4-cyl) couldn't get up the mountain. We got close but the last 1/2 mile was too steep. If you've got at least a 6-cyl and something with larger tires (even 2 wheel) you should be fine. The owners were great and helped us out since we missed out on the first night while we figured out how to get up the mountain. WELL WORTH THE EFFORT! Cabin was great and the view amazing!

Owner's Response: We were more than happy to accommodate you, and are so glad you were able to persevere and make it up the road! More powerful vehicles, whether 4WD or not, definitely make the drive up much easier. And we couldn't agree with you more about the drive being well worth the reward. We are delighted you were able to spend precious time with your family in our cabin, and you are most certainly welcome back any time! Thank you so much for staying with us!

What a Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

One step closer to heaven! We reserved the cabin for the single adults at our church and we all had such a wonderful time. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. Beds were comfortable, we slept even better than babies. The view was miraculous. What a beautiful sight to see from the moment we woke up, to the moment we went to bed. The drive to the cabin from the main road was very adventurous. Our 4Runner made it up no problem, the smaller car had some difficulties, but it was mainly the driver's fault!! We had to push the car once, but ended up just parking the at the entrance and making another trip with the 4Runner. My advice, slow and steady and you will be just fine because the cabin is so worth it! The boys were in love with the pool table and Foosball. The hot tube was a perfect fit for the ladies. We didn't turn the TV on, but one time to see the score for a football game. We played cards, board games, karaoke, and just had an amazing time. Thank you, Joli and Michael for sharing your beautiful home with us. We can't wait to go back!

Owner's Response: Michael and I are absolutely delighted to receive such sweet thoughts about your stay at our cabin. I say "receive" because it is truly a gift to us to know that you felt so happy and comfortable there. A million thanks to you for taking the time to express your thoughts. We feel the same way about the road; it is challenging for some drivers but well worth it, as it is what makes those incredible views possible. Thank you very much for staying with us! You were a joy to have as guests and welcome at our cabin anytime!

Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My seven friends and I came up to the Union Mills area to celebrate one of my best friends last few months of bachelorhood. We had an amazing time! Although a vehicle with 4 wheel drive IS recommended, we had two vehicles without it that made it up the mountain just fine. We ate like kings, took in the spectacular view, played numerous games of pool and fooseball, laughed over board games as well as a few movie comedies that were provided in the cabin. We traveled about 50 minutes down to Green River Tubing and enjoyed a 3 hour floatation state of relaxation, afterwards we drove 15 minutes to wolverine paintball and had a blast covering each other in paint! The next day, we drove 30 minutes to Lake Lure and spent 4 hours on the water thanks to the Lake Lure Adventure Company. Our last and final evening, we drove an hour to downtown Asheville and took in the sunset at the Omni Grove Park Inn. Joli and Michael were wonderful! They provided great communication ever since we started showing interest in their beautiful property. My friends and I have already talked about returning next year! Thanks so much for helping make this weekend something worth remembering!
