For the bride that dreams of a rustic barn wedding our barn suits to a t. Built in the late 1800?S you can feel the years of history, imagine the homesteaders raising their livestock and storing their crops.
In 2002 the winship family bought avalon farm and converted the barn to a horse barn. There is a large open area where a reception can be held. We have a separate area where catering can work from. You are welcome to use any of the grass area for tent weddings. Your guests can camp overnight . There are many beautiful vistas for wedding photos and plenty of parking.
The herd family built this farm out of the forest. With 8 daughters they worked in the fields tending the crops and livestock. Many stories have been told by the old timers of the dances and celebrations that would happen when the hay loft was clean just before harvest time. You can continue the history of avalon farm by hosting your dream wedding on the grounds of avalon.
We were in Duncan to visit family during an illness. We booked at the last minute and also were received very well from start to finish. The house and location are amazing. Very clean, great atmosphere and all amenities. The house is very nice inside and the wrap around deck is great. It was very peaceful and it helped with trying to relax at the end of long days away.
We walked the property and visited with Cocoa the cow. The views are beautiful and we even had arena side seats for the a riding/jumping lesson. To our surprise, Heather texted one morning to say her guys had just been out crabbing and would we like some fresh crab? She cooked it a brought it up to us and we feasted!!!! Amazing! I told other family and they couldn't believe it.
We loved it all and thank you so much Heather! You and your family are great! We HIGHLY recommend this place!
Our trip was brief, only two nights but we wish it could have been much longer! We booked the cottage the day before checking in and from start to finish the service and accommodations were phenomenal.
Upon our arrival we were met by the owner's son who gave us some general knowledge about the accommodations, upon stepping inside we were all beyond impressed with the cleanliness and overall feel of the place. It was welcoming, well decorated, and even with a huge banquet dinner taking place down at the barn, and other campers on the site it felt private and quiet!
The beds and furniture were extremely comfortable and the place as a whole was huge for four adults. The wrap around deck is fantastic for lounging about on and there was lots of chairs available for us outside.
After our first night we asked the owner if there was a fire pit and BBQ available to use, then we set out on our sightseeing for the day. Upon our return we found what looked like a brand new BBQ on the deck and a fire pit setup nearby with chairs, a table, and lots of wood for us to use. This was going above and beyond what was called for from the owners and truly appreciated.
Later that night we strolled down to the barn and met the owner in person, she and her family were incredibly friendly. As there are many horses on the property we asked to be introduced to some of them and her son was quick to take us around. For such a young man, he was incredibly professional, polite, knowledgeable, friendly and genuinely interested in hearing about us, as we were about hearing about his life on the farm and the horses.
Afterwards we enjoyed a wonderful steak dinner and sat out by the fire enjoying the starry night sky. The first night we saw the most stars in the sky I have ever seen, it was truly a great experience.
Upon our checkout we were told we could stay past the checkout time as there was no guests coming that day, we would have loved to have stayed longer but had to continue on our journey.
While we had initially been looking for a waterfront rental, this farm cottage exceeded everyone's expectations and we highly recommend it to anyone looking to explore the Southern part of the island. We can't wait to go back again!
Definitely a 5-star self-catered accommodation that is great for short and long-term stays! You're out in the country but the necessities (Walmart, Liquor Stores, Restaurants) of the city are only a ten minute drive away.
Thank you again!
We were in Duncan for a family wedding and wanted something a little more than a hotel to accommodate my husband and myself and our grown son, his wife and their infant for the weekend. Avalon Guest House fit the bill perfectly! It's an absolutely lovely guest house on a large 100+ acre working horse farm. The property is exactly what you see in the photos. It's quite obvious that the owners take great pride in the home as it is well maintained and very clean.
The kitchen has everything you need and the owners were kind enough to have fresh fruit, nuts, coffee, tea and milk there for us to tide us over before going to the grocery store.
The master bedroom is absolutely lovely with a very comfortable king size bed, ensuite bathroom and patio doors to a wrap around deck.
There are windows everywhere in this home making it nice and bright and the décor is and colours are relaxing. It's an open concept home with plenty of room for a large family or two couples.
We would highly recommend this property to a friends and relatives.
Thank you Jeff and Heather for sharing your beautiful home! We hope one day to come back and stay again.
