About Randy

Both my wife and I (Randy and Kathy) grew up in Scotia-Glenville and have raised two grown children, now both successful teachers in Science and Art. After a 34 year career as an MRI Imaging Engineer at GE Research I accepted a faculty position at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. My wife Kathy is a coordinator arranging CT and MRI scans and procedures for the kids at the hospital also. Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is #1 in cancer care in the US. It is a very exciting for us to help the children. Our daughter and son in law are our property managers and take care of the home as their own.

Randy purchased this house in 2013

Why Randy chose Capital Saratoga

Growing up with a camp on Sacandaga has given us so many great memories. To find such a great home on the Great Sacandaga Lake was a dream come true for us. We plan to retire in five or so years and enjoy all it has to offer. Super quiet location, 2.5 acres of private land, 400 ft of water frontage only 100 or so feet away below on a very low traveled country road off the main road. The steps to the beach are short with a small picnic area with a table and dock.

What makes this house unique

This home was designed by a fellow GE engineer and it shows. The house is built with quality you just do not see. The granite dual fireplace, one in the Great Room, the other in the 20 x 22 ft vaulted Master Suite is a masterpiece and the cost was over $20K alone. Our only neighbors are on one side and have a magnificent home themselves and are wonderful people who also help us care for the home just as good neighbors. Our Lake house has been totally refurnished with high quality upgrades, new furniture, TV, etc.

Spacious, comfortable home but not exactly waterfront.

  • 4 of 5

Randy was very nice to deal with. The house was very spacious, nice furniture, very comfortable beds. However, the house came up in our Homeaway search with the waterfront filter selected. I feel the house should be water view, not waterfront. The house sits on a steep, rocky cliff with a very steep driveway. You then must cross the road and go down a few sets of equally steep stairs to get to a large dock. No beach, just more rocks. It did not mention sandy beach, so that was our mistake. Thought others might like to know that the house is not true waterfront and that their is no beach. We still had a great time and had great weather. Love the area and the Great Sacandaga Lake.

Owner's Response: Julie, Thanks for the kind remarks on our Lakehouse. As far as being lakefront, it is exactly lakefront, and listed as such. Sitting up above the water only 200 ft directly across from the lake, provides such beautiful views of the lake and mountains. I think you are confusing Lakeside with Lakefront. If our 3000 sq ft Lakehouse was Lakeside it would be in the range of a $1-2M value for the area and considerably more expensive to rent. The country development road you cross to get to the 400 ft water area (largest on the lake) is extremely low traveled and quiet, and a very short 2 minute walk to the water area and picnic area. We help families enjoy a nice vacation in a luxury home at an extremely fair price. Nearly all our many reviews are 5 star and all enjoy the beautiful views from the home, and the water area which includes a picnic area and beautiful sunsets and large 44ft dock with a swim ladder, 1000 lb boat buoy just off that. The water is very clear and makes for nice swimming. Depending on the rain fall, more beach will become exposed for use. On a dry summer, we do indeed have considerable beach to use. I would again encourage you to look at previous guests reviews before you book any home, and call the owners to talk. I have spoken to many kind folks and have gone over all the details of our home at length if necessary, and on several occasions. Again we are glad you had a great time! Thanks, Randy and Kathy

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed a month in Randy and Kathy's house. The main reason we chose it was because they allowed pets. We had our son's dog visit with us for a week out of the month. We loved it and were very sad to leave at the end of our stay. The house was great! It was neat and clean, beautifully furnished and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and everything we needed for cooking and entertaining was there. We've rented a lot in the past and we were surprised by all the nice touches in the house. When we arrived we found supplies of tissues, TP, paper towels, dish & hand soap, laundry detergent and a basket of things you may have forgotten - toothpaste, toothbrushes etc. and the linens and towels were also supplied which was helpful. It has a beautiful view of the lake - which is a short walk across the street - from the kitchen and the side deck. Down at the lake, the docks were great. It was a bit of a climb to get to it but this is where we ended up hanging out with company. The view from there is incredible. After taking several rides around to the different parts of the lake, we realized we were on the nicest street around. It was quieter than all the other streets and it was a nice 3 mile walk down to the end and back.

Plenty to do there too:

We kayaked, swam, rented a boat at the Majestic Marina for a day, climbed Hadley Mountain, went to Lake George (25 minutes away) several times, went to Prospect Mountain, visited Saratoga Springs (30 minutes away) went to Northville, had several great meals at the Upriver Cafe in Lake Luzerne, visited Loon Lake (40 minutes away), Warrensburg, and Fort Ticonderoga (Highly recommend this trip - a little far but worth the trip if you're interested in history).

Thank you to Randy & Kathy for the wonderful vacation!

Owner's Response: Hi Nancy, Thank you for the wonderful review. It's so nice of you to mention all the Lakehouse has to offer, and what we supply for our folks. We try very hard to make our guests at home so they have a true relaxed vacation. The little details add a lot, as we are all so busy these days! Again, it was so nice talking to you and thanks for being such great guests. All the best! Randy and Kathy

Excellent

  • 5 of 5

It was excellent working with Randy to rent his lovely home overlooking the water. The home was immaculate, large, and tastefully decorated. We held a rehearsal dinner for my son's wedding weekend at the home, and it was perfect. The kitchen is large and well equipped. Randy and his wife were helpful in every way, giving us suggestions about restaurants and nearby attractions. The home is exactly as depicted in the ad, if not even nicer. I cannot recommend the home and the owners highly enough. Overall it was a wonderful experience. I would do it again!

Love the Lake House!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I can highly recommend Randy and Kathy's Adirondack Lake House. There is much to love about this vacation rental!

Location, location, location! The Lake House sits on top of a hill and overlooks the gorgeous Great Lake Sacandaga. The views from several of the rooms and the gazebo are stunning. You'll enjoy total privacy here (there is only one neighbor and that house is not close to this one), it's a very peaceful and quiet setting.

Everything about this house beckons you to relax. The house is extremely spacious and well furnished. No detail has been overlooked. The owners have spared no expense making sure everything is comfortable and at your finger tips. The mattresses, sheets, and furniture are so comfortable I was literally looking for tags to see who made them so I could buy that particular brand when I got home. Not to worry clean freaks - this house is spotless.

The master suite is luxurious. Huge! I felt like I was in a spa. The remaining three bedrooms are all lovely and have walk in closets. The kitchen is well equipped and spacious. You'll love the big flat screen tv in the living room! Wait until you sink into the leather couches....heavenly.

If you visit the house in the colder months you'll be happy to find that the heating system is excellent. The house is well insulated and is draft free and stays toasty warm.

The private beach that comes with this rental is amazing. The dock is huge and we particularly loved the picnic area that has a fire pit and chairs. You could easily sit there and stare at the beauty of the lake and the mountains for hours.

There is an adorable little market within a couple miles of the Lake House. We were able to buy everything we needed there, the new owner is very friendly and stocks a nice assortment of goodies. The charming town of Lake Luzerne is close by and has a larger market, a very good restaurant (Upriver Café), and a couple of art galleries that I enjoyed visiting.

The owners are very easy to work with and respond to any questions within the hour. We are looking forward to renting this jewel of a rental again! We had a lovely mini vacation here and came back to Boston feeling refreshed and renewed. Nothing beats the beauty of the Adirondacks and the Great Lake Sacandaga!

Great house on the Sacandaga Lake

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect place for us. We were here for my niece's wedding and to spend time with my brother and his family alone with my sister and her family. They all live a very short distance from the Lake house, so this was perfect for us to all get together. The house was a perfect size for my son and 2 of his kids and my husband and I.

The fall colors were at their peck and it was just beautiful to sit by the dock and look up and down the Sacandage Lake at all the colored leaves. It was a joy to see how beautiful the Adirondacks are in the fall. The grand kids couldn't got over all the colors, so different from the Gold leaves in Colorado. It has been a long time since I have been back home here in fall season.

We highly recommend the Lake House for any season.

Lake House Luxury

  • 5 of 5

This house is exactly as advertised and more. All the amenities of home are included. We had a great family get together swimming off the dock, relaxing on the side deck, enjoying a spacious house, and relaxing in the quiet surroundings. There were many area activities to keep us busy. Hiking, white river rafting, canoeing, kayaking, and shopping were all within a half hour drive. Owners were easy to work with and responded to questions very quickly. Thank you for sharing your house!

Map

With great mountain and lake views, quiet seclusion with your own 400ft water front on 2.5 acres, it is an excellent vacation lake house to enjoy. Expansive granite fireplace in both the Great Room and Master Suite overlooking the lake and mountains. Enjoy time off on the very large deck with Gazebo, just off the kitchen-dinette area. The home sits majestically on a hill so views are plenty. Famous Saratoga Horse Track is 30 minutes away, as is equally famous Saratoga Springs. Great Escape Theme Park with rides, water park, etc is also 20-30 minutes away. Great dining is only 15 minutes way.
