About Matt Brown and Joy Falkenburg
Dr. Joy Falkenburg and her husband Matt Brown have lived in the Black Hills since 1999. They purchased the Little Red Inn in 2013 and opened it for use as a vacation home in 2014. They live next to Custer State Park with their family and enjoy the beauty and serenity of the Black Hills and all it has to offer all year long.
Matt Brown and Joy Falkenburg purchased this Cottage in 2013
Why Matt Brown and Joy Falkenburg chose Custer
We live just down the road from the Little Red Inn. It had been for sale and every time we drove by we thought about buying it and opening it up for vacationers to enjoy when they stayed in the Black Hills. It is in a beautiful location and is close enough to both Custer and Custer State Park to be the perfect spot for people who are visiting the Hills. It also has a fenced in pasture for horses in case travelers are here with their horses to enjoy the Hills. The granite outcroppings east of Custer and Calamity Peak are just across the road from the Little Red Inn. Calamity Peak is one of the most photographed granite peaks in the Hills.
What makes this Cottage unique
Our motto is that you can 'hold your horses here'. If you are in the Black Hills to ride, bring your horses with you and leave them in our spacious pasture while you relax at the Little Red Inn. We also have a fire pit so you and the family or friends (or both!) can roast s'mores under the beautiful night sky of Custer.

Great place close to town
We really enjoyed staying at The Little Red Inn. It was close enough to town to grab dinner or groceries but far enough away to feel secluded. It was also a great launching point for all of the site seeing to be done in the area. The kids loved feeding the cow and catching grasshoppers and frogs in the yard. IT was very quiet, the beds were comfortable and there was room enough for 3 adults and 3 kids under 9.
I'm glad you enjoyed our home. Come back soon!

Great location & a clean hime
Cute home with plenty of room for a family. Quiet property that had everything we needed for a short getaway. Centralized location to access local attractions.
Great place, great stay, accommodating hosts
My wife and I stayed here with our two children (7 and 11) during their spring break. We absolutely loved the place! Clean, comfortable, close to all the sights we wanted to see in the area. Joy and her family are great hosts. One day it snowed a ton and she offered to bring over snow pants for our kids (we didn't pack any). She also had the snow plowed quickly so we could get out and about. We made wonderful family memories and the Little Red Inn was a big part of it! We look forward to our next visit to the area and will definitely stay here again!
Nice with everything you need......
Nice home with nice owners.... Had everything we needed for our stay while we were out there hunting... 4 adults men have plenty of room to spread out in this cabin.. Only reason I rated it 4 stars is because the gate into the property is really narrow and with snow we ended up scraping a brand new pickup on the gate when we slid sideways a couple of inches.. Not the owners fault but would of been easily preventable with a wider gate... But all in all a very nice place I would recommend to others..
Good vacation in the Custer area
Three couples shared the home for a week. it was well located for sightseeing and trail riding. We were able to park our trailers at the house and just go directly to trails. The house was close to both Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Monument. We enjoyed our week.
Loved the Little Red Inn
Very clean and cozy home in a great location!
Location
Ideally located three miles from Custer and two miles from Custer State Park, we are centrally located to all your Black Hills activities, including Wind Cave, the Needles Highway, Mt. Rushmore, Sylvan Lake, Crazy Horse, Hill City, Keystone, Custer State Park, the Mickelson Trail, Custer, Rapid City and Iron Mt. Road. Interested in horseback riding? The Little Red Inn has fenced pasture available so you can 'hold your horses here.' We are close to Iron Creek horse camp, a premiere horse riding trail system. For hunters, wildlife enthusiasts, and fishermen, opportunities abound! You are likely to see whitetail deer, wild turkey, elk, coyotes, and the occasional mountain lion on or around the property. Stockade and Bismark Lake are just over the hill and provide opportunity for fly and traditional line fishing for trout, perch, crappie, bass, northern, and sunfish. Buffalo also roam just minutes away in Custer State Park.
