About John Stoltzfus
Ruthie was born in the village of Intercourse. Her parents were brought up in the Amish church but left the Amish church when she was two years old and joined a Mennonite church. She has four siblings. John was also brought up in a Amish family of nine children, his dad was a farmer on a dairy farm. John left the Amish church at age 21 and joined the same Mennonite church that Ruthie attended. We now attend Keystone Evangelical Free Church. We have two children and five beautiful grandchildren.
John Stoltzfus purchased this Cottage in 2006
Why John Stoltzfus chose Gordonville
We bought this property to provide our guests with a clean, cozy 'home away from home' that they can come to relax and be refreshed from all the busyness of life. You can sit on the porch and enjoy the garden and listen to the Amish buggies go by.

Cozy and comfortable
Our usual group was smaller than normal this year so we decided to rent the Amish Guest House. The cottage worked out great! The first evening we were there sitting on the porch we saw a hot air balloon and could hear and see the buggies coming and going. John was so helpful with suggestions on places to visit (that we haven't been to), best way to drive, and of course we were blessed by the bread and jam that was waiting for us upon arrival. Thanks so much!
A gem in Amish Country
Highly recommend! Adorable cottage that had everything we needed for a memorable and relaxing stay! Right in the heart of Amish tourism, this cottage was convenient, clean and charming. The owners were excellent! We stay in Lancaster a lot and will definitely be staying here again!
Can't wait to come back
I absolutely loved this cottage. The decor and flower beds are gorgeous. You can tell that attention is put into every detail. I'm very picky about cleanliness and go in and inspect everything typically before bringing anything inside. My husband said he was shocked how relaxed I was staying here; it was immaculate! I truly felt at home. From the homemade bread and jam to providing literature/DVDs/brochures to help you learn more about the area, they covered all the bases. We were even given garden tomatoes when we left. I have four young children and this was just perfect. They loved that water pump and we enjoyed the swing both during the day and after they were tucked in to bed as we listened to the horse pulled carriages going by. This couple truly knows how to do hospitality right!
We are located in the heart of the Amish people and you will see and hear their horse and buggy's as they come into town to do business at the stores and use one of the three banks.
Spooky Nook Sports complex is a 30 minute drive.
The Cottage is within easy walking distance of approx. 50 shops including Kitchen Kettle where you can take buggy rides to Amish farms.
Our desire is to make the Cottage a 'home away from home' where you can come to relax.
