The quiet ocean-side community of Qualicum beach is the perfect spot to vacation and this property is a beautiful option for you to consider. In addition to the sweeping ocean and distant mountain views from the beach house, you also overlook some gulf islands: hornby, denman, lasqueti and texada. There are many different local activities to ensure there will be something to appeal to everyone. It also offers a tranquil retreat for artists and writers or anyone on sabbatical looking for some time away from it all.

The beach house sits a few meters from high tide so you can listen to the calming rhythm of the waves throughout your stay.

The beach house is well-suited for mixed generation families or for two or three families to stay together.

As you immediately enter the front door, there are stairs going directly down to two of the main bedrooms. One is the ocean-facing master bedroom with two windows facing the ocean and a door out to the backyard/beach & hot tub. This room has a comfortable queen size bed, 6 drawer dresser, closet and full 4 piece en-suite with a window. There is a washer and dryer available in the closet of the en-suite.

The other is what we call the children's room as there are 2 sets of bunk beds and a walk in closet with a selection of toys & books. There is a 5 drawer dresser in this room and one window (non-ocean facing and no view at all in fact). Please note families are responsible for keeping the Toy Closet organized.

There is a separate bedroom, that we call the guest room that also faces the ocean, with a comfortable king size bed. *Important to note: it is outside access only making it somewhat private from the rest of the house. There are two windows in this room, one facing the ocean and the other facing the 'front' yard. There is a tallboy dresser in this room with 5 drawers. To get into the house from the guest room, you can either enter through the patio door, upstairs or into the master bedroom door.

From the front door, when you walk into the house, the full washroom is off to the left of the living room. The living room has a couch and loveseat and rocking chair around a natural gas fireplace.

The fully equipped kitchen is also off of the living room, complete with full size gas stove/oven (and dishwasher) allowing you to dine in comfortably. Please ask if you have specific inquiries about how the kitchen is stocked. The Dining area is towards the ocean viewing side of the house. There are chairs for 6 but the piano bench can be used as seating to fit 8 at the table. There is plate service for ten.

In the office, which is off the dining area, there is a queen-sized murphy bed. The office has two corner window and is the 2nd best view room in the house.

In the ocean-viewing room, there is lovely leather sofa that tends to be the most popular seating in the house but it is also a pull out sofa-bed for those who want to wake up and have the best view of the house looking out over the sea. There are also window sits in this room making it a great spot for hanging out.

For night-life, there are a couple local pubs & restaurants a 5-10 minute walk down the road/beach, either direction, alleviating the need to drive & complete with live music on certain days. It is great to go with another couple to trade off date nights while the other couple babysits!

Children can spend hours beachcombing and exploring the flora and fauna of the pebbly beach, watch sea life and birds and take a short walk to the expansive sandbars while the tide is low. In the town of Qualicum Beach, there is a great swimming pool (ravensong aquatic center) as well as playing fields and playgrounds.

There is one fibre glass kayak available for use by experienced ocean paddlers. This must be carried down to the beach, and up, by 2 people to avoid damage. There is a lifejacket and skirt available.

The recommended maximum number of adults for the beach house is six but it can accommodate ten people including children.

Local activities:

It is less than an hour drive to mt washington making day ski trips possible. The skiers can be back before dinner and warming in the hot tub overlooking the ocean! Parksville (10 minutes away) has the best sandy beaches on the island for kids, with no waves and shallow and warm water. There is also an acre of playground at the main beach in Parksville, kids can easily spend hours at this park. The terrific local provincial park, horne lake caves provides some nearby exploring. Coombs is another local attraction with the goats on the roof, a terrific market and shops with the parrot refuge centre beside. Several nearby yoga studios offer a great combination of fitness & wellness to your vacation schedule. The beach house is central to several quality golf courses in the region. Take a ferry to one of the nearby gulf island to explore the island life.

About Rachel Calder

We are a family of four with 2 active and busy school-age kids. We live in Victoria, BC, where we both grew up ourselves. We like to get up to Qualicum when we can but find it is difficult between all of our activities. We have worked hard to prepare this property to be a comfortable and fun retreat for guests.

Why Rachel Calder chose Vancouver Island

This property was owned by a family friend and his family since the area was developed in 1951. Dave would visit this property with his family growing up so when he heard it was for sale we jumped on trying to purchase it. As a component of that, we knew we would need to rent it out to manage owning the property but as it is such a special location we were confident that we could successfully rent it out.

What makes this house unique

This property has been set up to be an ideal vacation home that suits more than one family unit. 2 or 3 families together or extended families including in-laws or other friends. We love this property as there are no roads to cross to be on the beach for the kids. We know that they can just walk across the yard and climb down to the beach.

Hi Rachel,

We all completely enjoyed our stay. Our 4 year old was delighted with the "toy box". And the 11 yr old loved the bunk beds. The location and view were even more incredible than we hoped. We spent every morning beach combing and every evening in the hot tub. It was tough to want to leave and see the sights (which we did do and enjoyed that as well). I hope we took good care of your piece if paradise. We treated it like our own. My only hardship was that I didn't pack a blow dryer :( Blames on me though. I've gotten so used not having to bring it that I never even considered it.

Thank you and your family so much for sharing your beach home. We loved it.

Perfect for 3 generation family visit

Nine of us enjoyed a three generation family Thanksgiving at the beach house. Although small, the kitchen was well equipped and we had a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. The very clean house with 4 bedrooms, comfortable beds, and 2 bathrooms suited us well. The 3 girls enjoyed the bunk bed room and adjoining toy cupboard . They made good use of the hot tub as did the adults. The view of the ocean was spectacular. We visited the Horne Lake caves and Cathedral Grove, both within an hour's drive. Rachel communicated well and made us aware of all the house rules in advance. The VRBO photos provide a true picture of the house. Parking in front of the house is tight but there is ample space at the municipal park next door. We would recommend they provide cable TV for those who appreciate that form of entertainment, especially in the non summer seasons.

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful beach house with us. We absolutely had the best week we could have ever imagined and is was in large part to the amazing comfort we felt in your home. That view has left a mark on our hearts forever!

The house was well stocked with sheets, pillows, blankets and towels. It was immaculately clean and a perfect home-base for all the wonderful activities in the area. I would highly recommend this property to anyone and hope to visit again.

Excellent - Exceded Our Expectations

Wonderful! Wonderful! Our group of 5 consisted of grandparents, grandson and his parents. We arrived on May 28th as the fireworks were starting over the bay (almost in front of the house) as part of the Qualicum Beach Annual Family Day Celebrations on the next day. The owner’s description of their property is perfect but a few more “beautifuls and “wonderfuls” should be included. We discovered a trailhead off Crescent Rd., opposite the property, that followed a creek and eventually lead into downtown. Soon into the hike we were welcomed by a deer that was as interested in us as we were in him. Some of us took a hike along the shore to return home. Walking along the beach in front of the property was beautiful. We kept the windows open at night to enjoy the sound of the surf as we fell asleep after a busy day. The property is near a number of hikes including Little Qualicum Falls and Cathedral Grove with its giant 800 year-old trees. Sea otters visited frequently and cruise ships passed during suppertime. Three of us used the sea kayak to explore the Strait of Georgia. To relax in the hot tub after a busy day was very welcoming.
