CASA FLORA Quiet & Cozy Downtown Plaza Apartment

Bedrooms 1
Space 700 sq ft
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 1 - 3 nights

About the property

Casa Flora Apartment Convenient To Everything

Casa Flora is a complete little two room apartment just off Taos Plaza and close to everything Taos offers.

Enter through a brick courtyard lined with summer blooming flowers and outdoor seating area for an evening glass of wine or a morning cup of coffee.

Casa Flora has a living room/kitchen which is comfortable and inviting. The kitchen is well equipped for at home dining and can seat four. The living room sofa is a double sofa bed for two additional guests or children. The room is heated with a gas log stove and the skylight offers wonderful Taos light.

The bedroom features a queen bed with premium bedding, good reading lights, cozy robes, and charming gas log stove with a decorative tile surround.

The bath has a tiled shower and plenty of towels and bath supplies. Leave your hair dryer at home.

Casa Flora is located in an adobe building built in the 1880's and has wooden floors, hand hewn beamed viga ceilings and many multi paned operable windows. 14' thick adobe walls assure winter warmth and summer coolness. All windows are screened with perfect privacy and security. There is a ceiling fan in the kitchen and another in the bedroom. I also a provide a swamp cooler in case you are staying during our (luckily short) summer heat spells.

Casa Flora is furnished with antiques, original Taos art from some of our exceptional artists and my sense of whimsy throughout.

If this apartment is booked for your days please look at Vrbo 422849 or Vrbo 598600. Very similar and on the same street. Vrbo 598600 is an adjoining apartment and can be rented together with Casa Flora for larger groups. Vrbo 422849 is just upstairs in the same building.

About Melissa /Taos mgr.

I moved here from Marin County California in 2005. I wanted a simpler life in a small town and have found my niche in Taos. I have a shop (right in front of Casa Flora) called Red Cat Melissiana with lingerie, gifts and a flower shop (hence Casa Flora...) I serve on a number of Board of Directors and still find time to landscape much of downtown Taos. I love sharing information about this wonderful town with my many guests.

I actually own a total of six vacation rentals in Taos. Everything from two little downtown apartments to two and three bedroom homes. All are special and decorated in a very 'Melissiana' style Many of my guests comment that they are what they always thought Taos should be...

Melissa /Taos mgr. purchased this apartment in 2009

Why Melissa /Taos mgr. chose Taos

Some women collect shoes, some collect shoes. I seem to collect houses. I love to furnish, decorate, equip and manage these spaces as vacation rentals. I consider myself 'The Vacation Rental Queen of Taos' I had finished my last project--two homes right downtown on a property that had been in foreclosure for two years. Now it will be on the Home & Garden Tour this summer! Quite a compliment to my style...I needed a new project and decided to turn the back two rooms of my shop into another rental. It's just so much fun!

What makes this apartment unique

Casa Flora is quiet and private. There is room for a couple to stretch out, enjoy, cook at home, but outside the front door is everything downtown Taos with shops, galleries, museums and a dozen restaurants within walking distance. There is even free overnight parking right across the street.

Love the Casa Flora!

  • 5 of 5

This is such a cool place! My wife, myself and our two daughters (7&9) just returned from a quick trip from Denver to Taos. If your family resembles ours, or smaller*, and are looking for a uniuqe and authentic place to stay , this is it! It exemplifies why we are so thankful for vacation rentals. Rather than staying at your typical hum drum, anywhere in america hotel, we get the opportunity to rent a privatly owned property that has true style and history. Taos has history, and this is one of it's older dwellings - staying here enhances your experience. Highley reccomend it!

*If you need more space, and are possibly traveling with another couple or more people, we noticed that there is a larger unit that is attached and above thise one.

Thanks Melissa - The Overstreets! By the way, our daughters (and us) loved the antique toys we discovered in there.

Owner's Response: Cody, so glad your family and pup enjoyed Casa Flora. Nice to meet all of you too. Yes this is a wonderful old Taos building built in 1874 so 14" thick walls mean its cozy in winter and cool in summer. Yes, the front adjoining apartment (Red Cat Melissiana) is another space for 2-4 guests. I do have some toys in Casa Flora although since they are from my childhood I prefer the term "Vintage" to "Antique" ! Ha Ha...

A Taos Treasure!

  • 5 of 5

We were delighted with our stay at the charming Casa Flora August 10th-13th. It was charming, cozy, comfortable, and could not have had a more convenient location. Even though it was exceptionally hot and muggy by Taos standards, the swamp cooler allowed us a cool, comfortable sleep each night. The unit was well appointed and could not have been more appealing in its décor. I also thought it very reasonably priced and would confidently recommend this rental to any of my friends. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay at my Casa Flora. Guests always comment on how quiet and private it feels considering it is right downtown and across the street from the Plaza. In 1894 they built thick walls. Yes the swamp cooler was a good investment for my summer guests. The cooler along with ceiling fans and operable screened windows insures cool temperatures. I'm glad you liked my decor. I surely have fun furnishing and decorating my ten properties! I hope you took some time to relax in my front courtyard garden. My prices are almost ridiculously low for what you get, but I would rather have lower prices and more guests than high prices and few guests. Just call me crazy!!

Perfect Location Perfect Ambiance

  • 5 of 5

We knew CASA FLORA was close to the Plaza, but didn't realize it was just a block from everything! And despite being downtown, it had viable parking just across the street.

We loved the thought that was put into the furnishings and décor. We are so glad we chose to stay here rather than a hotel/resort in the area. It was the perfect way to immerse ourselves into the great Southwest vibe Taos offers.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review. Yes Casa Flora is walking distance from everything downtown. Glad you liked my furnishings and decor too! I'm sure you can see just how much fun I had and luckily my guests like it too. Whimsy and all original Taos art. Great combination for sure.

Cute little place a block away from the plaza. It had everything we needed and Melissa is a great host! I needed an iron, I called her and she told me right where it was! We'll stay here again!

Owner's Response: I'm glad you enjoyed the apartment. Even though it is small it does not feel confined. I like to think I have everything guests might need. I like to say that if I don't have it, you won't need it. Do come again. You had my summer gardens to enjoy, but it is also so cozy in the winter.

Loved the quaintness, decorations and old Taos style. Thank you for a very enjoyable retreat!

Melissa has provided a beautiful getaway in the center of Taos with great funky decorations, a quiet location, easy walk to all of downtown and making us feel at home. Thank you for a most enjoyable stay at Casa Flora!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the prompt and nice review. Yes Casa Flora is a great getaway. There is something about a building from the 1870's that just appeals. Plus even though it is right downtown those foot thick walls keep it so quiet. I'm glad you like my decorating style. I just have too much fun. I enjoyed the evening we spent together and know I will see you two again since you want to be Taosenos!

Cozy with Authentic Taos Style

  • 5 of 5

This is where you want to stay if you're looking for the atmosphere of old Taos. This is as close to the plaza as you can get, but quiet and private as well. Small but workable kitchen and everything you need to cook or just snack. The kitchen sink is a little small for dishwashing but we managed. I highly recommend this for a 2-3 people who want an authentic Taos experience.

Owner's Response: Hi, thanks for the review. Yes this is a great space and great location. It's right downtown, but this 1880's building with 12" thick walls gives privacy and peace and quiet. Sink may be smallish, but I thought I was pretty clever to insert a bar sink in an antique dry sink!
