Our two bedroom cottage is nestled in the rain forest 30 minutes south of Hilo. It’s private and secluded yet centrally located for all that the Puna district has to offer.
The ¼ acre property is surrounded by large Eucalyptus, Ohia and Avacado trees. Nestled amongst those are a large variety of plants and fruits including: bananas, pineapples, pomelos, tangerines and many ornamentals.
The cottage comfortably sleeps 2-4 people and has two bedrooms. The front bedroom is off the kitchen, has a full sized bed, a private sliding glass door to the front lanai and direct access to the bathroom. There is a folding screen that can be used for extra privacy from the rest of the house. The back bedroom is entered through the french doors, has a queen sized bed, and private access to the backyard.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge, stove, microwave, dishes, all cooking dishes and utensils as well as some of my favorite cookbooks. We have a satellite TV, DVDs, CDs, books and internet for your at home entertainment. There is a boogie board and snorkel gear as well as beach towels for your outdoor adventures.
Enjoy day outings to Warm Ponds, Tide Pools, Volcano National Park and numerous farmers markets, then come home to your tropical getaway and fall asleep to the lulling songs of the coqui frogs.

I'm Emily. I instantly fell in love with the island the first time I was here and left with one goal in mind, to find that perfect piece of property and move as soon as possible. Only several months later did i find Hibiscus Cottage and couldn't believe how lucky I was. I hope to someday move here, in the meantime I want to share our little slice of heaven with you. I live in Boulder City Nevada just outside of Las Vegas and am a Stage Manager at Cirque du Soleil.
I hope you enjoy the cottage as much as I do.
Emily Carr purchased this house in 2013
We enjoyed our stay, It was very well stocked with everything you'll need. Nice location, out of the way but still close enough to what we wanted to do and go. and very clean ,Thank you Linda & Wayne
The property was perfect for our family. It is certainly lcoated so getting to where we needed was easy. The property is clean and is not dated. Everything you need is available.
Our family of four stayed at this cute cottage for two nights. The beds were very comfortable. It is tucked away a little and surrounded by trees so that there is a level of privacy from neighbors. We enjoyed exploring the variety of plants and flowers in the yard. We were pleasantly surprised to find some of the "extras" at the cottage--some leftover products in the kitchen (oil, spices, tea, etc.) and bathroom (hair and sun care, a few first aid supplies, etc) from former guests. We also used a cooler we found to bring food with us during the day. I was grateful to have the washer and dryer and supplies at our disposal, as well as a small collection of movies, and some helpful maps and books with information about the island and its attractions. I should also say that I appreciated how responsive Emily was in communicating with me. I feel comfortable recommending Hibiscus Cottage to others.
My husband and I have decided this is our new "go-to" place for when we want to get away to Hawaii. We met as he was on a business trip to South Korea and I was home in Washington, perfect place to meet up for a little getaway. Neither of us had been to any of the islands before, but we felt right at home in this little cottage.
We rented a car in Kona and spent the next few days exploring the South-East side of the island. Our first day we spent visiting the black sand beaches at Kaimu, had a picnic lunch at the Wai'Opae tide pools (make sure to go when the tide is out), headed to the Lava Tree State Park and ended our night on Mauna Kea with the most amazing sunset. Our second day we spent 9 hours at the Volcanoes National Park, which we can't wait to go back and hike more around! Our last full day we traveled up the East coast and visited the Akaka Falls State Park, a quick stop but definitely worth the visit. We ended our day with a visit to Hilo to see King Kamehameha and Richardson Beach (where we were graced with 3 beautiful green sea turtles). We highly recommend all these spots!
Emily had such amazing instructions going every little detail and even having some little tips on places to see. The cottage is so well equipped with everything from pots and pans to things to do a load of laundry. You will feel so much at home from the moment you step onto the property. And we absolutely loved the yard and the singing of frogs at night. Can't wait for our next visit!!
Cozy and quiet, very clean and secure. I booked the cottage for my family to stay so they would be near me. They loved it! The owner was very responsive when needed. A fantastic place. Plenty of avocados when in season. I would highly recommend and will book again next year.
