Our two bedroom cottage is nestled in the rain forest 30 minutes south of Hilo. It’s private and secluded yet centrally located for all that the Puna district has to offer.
The ¼ acre property is surrounded by large Eucalyptus, Ohia and Avacado trees. Nestled amongst those are a large variety of plants and fruits including: bananas, pineapples, pomelos, tangerines and many ornamentals.
The cottage comfortably sleeps 2-4 people and has two bedrooms. The front bedroom is off the kitchen, has a full sized bed, a private sliding glass door to the front lanai and direct access to the bathroom. There is a folding screen that can be used for extra privacy from the rest of the house. The back bedroom is entered through the french doors, has a queen sized bed, and private access to the backyard.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge, stove, microwave, dishes, all cooking dishes and utensils as well as some of my favorite cookbooks. We have a satellite TV, DVDs, CDs, books and internet for your at home entertainment. There is a boogie board and snorkel gear as well as beach towels for your outdoor adventures.
Enjoy day outings to Warm Ponds, Tide Pools, Volcano National Park and numerous farmers markets, then come home to your tropical getaway and fall asleep to the lulling songs of the coqui frogs.

I'm Emily. I instantly fell in love with the island the first time I was here and left with one goal in mind, to find that perfect piece of property and move as soon as possible. Only several months later did i find Hibiscus Cottage and couldn't believe how lucky I was. I hope to someday move here, in the meantime I want to share our little slice of heaven with you. I live in Boulder City Nevada just outside of Las Vegas and am a Stage Manager at Cirque du Soleil.
I hope you enjoy the cottage as much as I do.
Emily Carr purchased this house in 2013
Hibiscus cottage was cute and cozy not cozy like not enough room. Cozy like comfortable. Quiet, private, and pretty everything you need is right there. There are a number of restaurants 3-5 miles away in pahoa and old pahoa just down the road.
The house is really beautiful and is surrounded by a great tropical garden. It is a short drive away from attractions in Hilo, from Volcano National park, the spots from where you can view the active lava flows, and the phenomenal hot springs near the coast. We had a wonderful time despite the daily heavy rainfalls. Nights, although humid, are cool enough, we had no trouble sleeping without A/C. The owners provide very useful information about activities in the area. We were very lucky to have picked this place! Mahalo!
We loved this place - cute little cottage in a very quiet neighbourhood - perfect location for our 2 days on the east side of the Big Island. The only downside to our stay was that it was only for 2 nights so we didn't get a chance to take advantage of everything on offer.
Emily has done a wonderful job of making this a home from home - we felt comfortable from the moment we walked up onto the front lanai. There are ample facilities for cooking, entertainment, internet etc and it was definitely one of our better choices during our time in Hawaii. I would have no hesitation in recommending Hibiscus Cottage to other visitors and it will be my first choice if I return to the region. Thanks Emily!
The house was adorable and comfortable. The perfect size for the 3 of us. We sat out on the lanai every morning drinking coffee and listening to the birds, looking at the total surround of beauty with fruits and flowers growing all around us. In the evening we fell asleep listening to the peeping of frogs. Even though there were houses across the street, you couldn't see them through the foliage and you had a feeling of total privacy. Also, the house has an alarm system so we felt totally secure. The people of Hawaii were so very friendly always...I doubt there is much crime there. We were given local information which we found very helpful. Two things I would add to the helpful info packet: Paolos Bistro in downtown Pahoa was not listed but turned out to be the very best Italian food I've every eaten in my life (everything hand made). Also, while at dinner at Paolos we met a local who told us about the service at the Green Sand Beach that drives you to the beach from the parking lot. THAT was helpful info. The guidebook simply said you needed a 4 wheel drive vehicle. HA! You also need a guide to find it! Cost $15 round trip but worth every penny. Delightful trip....delightful accommodations. Nothing negative anywhere. The property owner was most helpful with any and all questions that we had and we really appreciated her input regarding local farmers markets and restaurants. It was really helpful that snorkel equipment, towels, playing cards and so much else was provided for us.
We loved our time at Hibiscus Cottage and highly recommend this property. A lovely peaceful setting and a great place from which to explore so much of the island. As a family with two kids, it worked well for us to be able to do some cooking and laundry in the middle of our week long journey around the island. Everything worked great, was clean and comfy. Thanks, Emily!
We enjoyed our stay, It was very well stocked with everything you'll need. Nice location, out of the way but still close enough to what we wanted to do and go. and very clean ,Thank you Linda & Wayne
