Spacious house in Hancock Point summer community, right on Frenchman Bay with shared private beach, looking across to the mountains of Acadia National Park. Quiet location, yet only 20-minute drive to Ellsworth for groceries and shopping, walk to the Crocker House or drive 10 minutes to Salt Box or Chester Pike's for excellent food. Public dock, tennis courts and a library all within walking distance.
We’ve been lucky enough to spend summers here for nearly sixty years—we hope you will love it as much as we do. It’s not a modern house (although the kitchen is), it’s old and comfortable and a bit worn in places, but it’s clean, light and airy and the location is idyllic.

My family from 6 months through 66, so enjoyed this home. It was a lovely place to be together. The kitchen was outstanding, roomy and very well stocked with everything we needed and the kitchen table was a great place for the little cousins to eat together and get to know each other better. The grandchildren enjoyed the house and yard and the porch hammock was delightful. The living room was lovely and provided space for visiting, and dinning room was beautiful. We even had a few who gave a piano concert on the lovey piano! Lots of room for toys, playing and giggles from 5 little boys! We also rented the Little House next to the Big House for the grandparents and that also worked out very well. Wish we knew if the fireplace was workable, because a couple of evenings/nights were very chilly.
My family, from seniors down to babies, had a great time in the Big House. It was lovely. We were surprised by how big and beautiful the bedrooms were. The kitchen was a joy to work in - roomy enough for several cooks at once. The kids enjoyed the yard and exploring. They found books and games to play with in the house, too. The sound of the water at night was wonderful. It was a relaxing place to be and close enough to Acadia for fun day trips. The owner of the house could not have been easier to work with. We highly recommend this house for family times together on the coast of Maine.
The Big House is superb -- a gracious and grand cottage that stands witness to an historic era of Maine summer ocean homes. We were delighted with its spacious and comfortable rooms, its authenticity, and its long views of Acadia and the islands. The intimate lapping of waves and sea breezes just a few yards from the front steps were enticing and relaxing.
It is perfectly situated, close to hiking, kayaking, pottery shopping, haunts with local treasures and swimming (off its own beach!).
The Big House welcomed us home after every adventure, it's rustic quality enveloping and restorative.
We had many madcap, delicious, leisurely meals in the big welcoming kitchen with our friends.
We will certainly be back. The Big House is a very tough place to leave.
If you want to wake up with views out onto the sea without having to lift your head off the pillow, this is the place for you. Its location could not be more perfect, at the end of the point, within a few yards of the ocean. There is plenty to do- sailing, kayaking, cycling, walking, swimming and visiting Acadia National Park- in addition, nearby freshwater lakes are a delight. We saw eagles, porpoises and seals whilst kayaking. There is also a beautiful balcony with hammock for chilling with a good book and watching the world go by.
The house has all amenities you need for a relaxing holiday with local shops close by. I would thoroughly recommend this house as a tranquil holiday location.
