About the property

4 Bedroom 6 1/2 Bath Private Hawaiian Resort

From its envious position at a cool elevation of 1000 feet on the slopes of Mount Hualalai, to its 270 degree panoramic views of Keauhou Bay and miles of the Kona coastline, this secluded luxury estate on 5 fenced and gated acres is surrounded by lush, tropical foliage. It has been said that this architecturally significant residence boasts the most amazing views available on the Big Island. The residence was also featured on the cover of Island Home magazine. Privacy and security are assured from the moment you enter the gate and proceed down the sweeping, palm tree lined drive to the main residence.

Upon entry to Hale Wailele you are greeted by magnificent koi ponds and the sound of waterfalls in your private courtyard.

MAIN HOUSE LIVING AREA: The Great Room features 18 foot vaulted ceilings and an open floor plan that encompasses a gourmet kitchen and dining/living areas. The interiors have been professionally designed and offer a luxurious yet comfortable respite. Floor to ceiling pocket doors open onto the lanais to bring the outdoors in. The gourmet kitchen will be the envy of any chef and is equipped to host parties large or small. The kitchen features a large island and a handy breakfast bar where guests can gather and chat with the chef of the party. Adjacent to the kitchen is an intimate media room and an open air tropical bar perfect for pre-dinner cocktails.

OUTDOOR LIVING AREA: Over 2000 square feet of Honed Beaumaniere French Limestone floors (imported from France by the original owners) flow seamlessly around the home. Both covered and open air patios feature plush chaise lounges and resort style furnishings surrounding the custom infinity edge pool and spa. This area is perfect for enjoying the beautiful Kona sunsets while sipping a tropical cocktail. The fun does not end after the sun sets as the area magically comes to life with the lighting of the tiki torches. Arrange your own private Luau complete with Hula lessons and fire dancers. Ideal location for intimate weddings.

SUITES OF THE HOUSE: The house is comprised of 3 separate pavilions which are connected via Honed Beaumaniere French Limestone walkways. The King Master Suite with his and her bathrooms is housed independently in pavilion 1. Pavilion 2 houses the main living area as well as two additional King bedded suites. Pavilion 3 houses the 4th King bedded suite (aka Ohana).

All of the suites are equipped with private bathrooms, televisions as well as their own outdoor lounge areas. It is rare to find a vacation rental where up to 4 couples can retreat to their own private spaces.

There is no need for air conditioning in this home as the near constant trade winds fan a delightful gentle breeze over the property. If you are looking for absolute luxury in a breathtaking setting than this Hawaiian vacation rental has it all. You will never tire of gazing at the magnificent views and swaying palm trees while enjoying the cool tropical breeze.

If you can tear yourself away from this property the Kona coastline is waiting to be explored.

Why Karen Hill chose Kona Coast

The architect who designed this house is known as the "frank Lloyd Wright" of Hawaii. His designs all fit seamlessly into the landscape as does Hale Wailele and its beautiful separation of areas allowing for privacy and yet community when desired. The dramatic entrance, sweeping views, and a his and her bathroom in the master sealed the deal (as did the Realtor's Mai Tai's!)

What makes this estate unique

On 5 acres so it feels secluded yet so close to everything

4 bedrooms all with separate outside areas for privacy and seclusion

Incredible sweeping views of the Kona Coastline

Amazing Sunsets

18' vaulted ceilings

Indoor- outdoor flow- we rarely close the doors

Beyond Our Expectations

  • 5 of 5

I will start by saying I never write reviews but on this home I felt inspired to. We had four couples for my 50th birthday celebration (Hawaii 5-0 theme). The setup couldn't have been any better for couples as we all had our own private space and bathrooms with king size bed. The hit of the house was the outdoor bar and the husbands were pretty much parked at it the entire time. We only used the formal dining room one time when we had the chef come in as all other nights we were around the big glass table on the Loggia. The kitchen and home is stocked with more utensils and serving dishes then I even have at my personal home. The electric cooktop was our only hang up but that's because we are used to gas top cooking.

We loved the fish and even took on the duties of feeding them every day. They became our pets for the week.

We are already planning our next trip, can't wait to go back. LOVE-LOVE-LOVE this home!

Nothing but beautiful and memorable

  • 5 of 5

All other reviews have highlighted so many of the luxuries and priviliges of this house already that I fully endorse. Detail..detail...detail! Nothing is missing! High quality kitchen, bedding, towels and decor.

Heather and Steve are so incredibly kind and welcoming and are extremely dedicated to the house and to the guests.

The koy fish pond was a highlight for me, as they were extremely interactive and a pleasure to feed twice daily(not a requirement, but i wanted to!)Grandpa, is the king and deserves some extra attention.

Karen, thank you for creating so an oasis and allowing us to enjoy it.

We fell in love with Hale Wailele!

  • 5 of 5

We fell in love with Hale Wailele...from the luxury bedrooms, comfy beds, amazing views, herb garden, fresh fruit from the trees on the property, pool, hot tub, outdoor living spaces and Koi...it couldn't have been a better place to celebrate my parent's 50th wedding anniversary. We are an adventuring family, but it was hard to leave this home. Every evening we would return to make dinner in the fully supplied kitchen and enjoy the sunset from the beautiful outdoor dining / living area. The house is designed with both plenty of private spaces, as well as incredible gathering areas. We never felt crowded as a group of 13. The pictures give a glimpse of the beauty of the home and surroundings, but we were truly blown away when we arrived and saw it in person, it beat all our expectations. The 100 plus koi that live in the pond, seemed to become pets overnight for our family. The kids would take turn with their morning and evening feedings. Karen & Paul the owners were very easy to work and flexible with our group size. A special mention needs to be made of the caretakers, Steve and Heather as they are incredible hosts and able to address any concern or questions you might have. Heather even taught the young women of our group how to make palm frond baskets....what a treat!!!! I couldn't recommend this home more!!!

INCREDIBLE!!

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing property, with the most beautiful view overlooking the ocean and bay. Very well appointed, with anything you could possibly need. We were greeted by Heather and Steve, the wonderful caretakers that live next door and they were very helpful and responsive when we had questions. The house was beyond our expectations, beautifully decorated and elegant but completely comfortable with lots of room to spread out. We loved the open air concept of the home, we never felt cooped up and could enjoy the lovely Hawaiian weather. Sitting outside overlooking the bay at sunset was one of our favorite times of day. There was so much to see on the Big Island, but this incredible home made it hard to leave!

Amazing Property!

  • 5 of 5

I am so happy I stumbled upon Hale Wailele. I was looking for a place to host my wedding and reception and this place was absolutely perfect! We rented the house for 7 nights total and had our wedding and reception here as well. During our stay, we had all our family and friends over who had traveled to the island the celebrate with us and it was nice being able to invite them over to a house rather than trying to plan a place to meet with everyone elsewhere if we had stayed at a hotel. All the amenities we had at the estate were amazing too, there's tons of spices and foods left over from previous guests as well as any kitchen appliance and supply you can think of. For our wedding, it was an incredible day. Everything looked so amazing and our guests were raving about the house the entire week! We were able to fit about 80 guests here and they fit perfectly. Once again, this is an amazing place to stay and I would highly, highly recommend this for a wedding or even just as a place to stay with your family and friends for the week!

A Once in a Lifetime Family Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Our family vacation at the Hale Wailele was one of the most memorable times in our lives. Memories were made forever! Hale Wailele will take your breath away as you arrive through the special gates. The home is spectacular. For a family of ten people, it was perfect. The rooms are gorgeous and very private, too. The open concept welcomes you into the very essence of a Hawaiian experience. The view over Kona is awe inspiring. The patio, Tiki bar, and all of the special furnishings provide a wonderful, relaxing feeling at all times of the day--from the morning sunrise to the evening sunset--so dreamy! We cannot thank Steve and Heather for their wonderful hospitality. It was such a pleasure to meet them. Upon arrival to the Hale Wailele, we were treated to wine and cheese and champagne, too, as well as gifts for our grandchildren. Above and beyond a very special gesture it was. The Johnson Family will forever remember the Hale Wailele! Our grandsons will never forget the Koi fish and having the opportunity to feed them each day. Thank you for sharing this home with us.

Notes:
Hale Wailele is home to a number of little green Geckos very similar to the “Geico Insurance Gecko” seen in TV commercials. These Hawaiian Geckos, harmless to humans, are very good at hunting and controlling insects and do a lot less talking than their “Gieco” counter-parts with the British accent. A little known fact is that this Hawaiian Gecko was the alternate pick for Hawaii State mascot for 3 consecutive years. Lots of guests, especially kids, find these little guys really cute with their little suction cups for toes on their feet. Hale Wailele uses a nationally well known professional pest control service that specifically treats for Mosquitoes, on regular basis, which are so common in the tropics. Additionally Hale Wailele provides some personal insect repellent for an added layer of protection if guests so desire, as it is very difficult to control these “Mozzies” (as we call them), 100%. Some guests have a personal preference of insect repellent that they may choose to use.
