Pastoral paradise

Absolutely stunning, historic property. The views, environment and experience are classic Vermont. We have stayed at this home both in the summer and winter and each offers excellent proximity and opportunity to enjoy all that the MRV has to offer. Our children love running from the tennis court, to the pond - which is excellent for swimming. The home itself, is charming and the den / bar area is a particular draw with its large stone fireplace. As mentioned the kitchen has been updated with new appliances as well- yet still has the farmhouse feel we love. We have rented many homes over the past few years, and what makes the stay here stand apart from others, is the kindness and ease of renting from the owners. They are incredibly helpful and accommodating and should you need anything at all respond right away. We can't say enough about this truly special home.

Great Setting for an Executive Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Pete and Hilary’s house was recommended by Janis Cooper of EQnimity for our executive leadership retreat. The property worked perfect for our group of eight people with great sleeping accommodations and multiple indoor/outdoor spaces to suit everyone’s needs. The working farm setting has a variety of livestock, including unique Scottish Highland cattle plus a clear view of Sugarbush Ski Resort directly across the valley. The house was comfortably furnished and the updated kitchen was well stocked with plenty of space to serve our guests. Pete and Hilary provided great support in helping us get things set up. An overall great experience and we look forward to returning next year.

Needs to be updated

  • 2 of 5

Pros- beautiful views. Nice area for walks. Lots of bedrooms. Nice bar room with big fireplace.

Cons- bad indoor air quality, old stained shag carpeting, kitchen has barely usable old electric range and an oven that was left with a greasy pan inside. Animal hair in house. Not for allergy sufferers.

Owner's Response: Everyone has difficult renters! Kitchen has been fully remodeled as of April 2015 with all new appliances, lighting and counters. There are no allergens in the house - we've had it checked, although we do use Jo Malone diffusers. We are certainly willing to remove them, or do anything else we can, to accommodate our guests!

Great for families!

  • 5 of 5

I came to Pete and Hilary's house with a young infant, and this couldn't have been a better set up! We had plenty of space to spread out, but more importantly it was well appointed. From the highchair to the pack-n-play, they'd thought of everything! Hilary even let the kids feed the chickens and ride the tractor. What a great trip for everyone!

Fairytale rental house

  • 5 of 5

I rented this house for my bridal party for my fall wedding. The house looks like it stepped out of a story book, the pictures do not do it justice. It faces west overlooking the sugarbush mountains and in the evening you get you experience phenomenal sunsets. Everyone in the house complimented everything from how beautiful the place was to how comfortable the beds were. The men quite enjoyed the sauna before the wedding and everyone loved the hot tub. The grill and fire pit were so perfect for entertaining our guests. If you rent the place in winter I'd recommend using an all wheel drive vehicle because there are some steep hills nearby.

Excellent house

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of about 12 with many couples and this house was an excellent choice for our needs. The weekend was focused around skiing at Sugarbush (which was just nearby) and enjoying long weekend winter break. Those who did not ski enjoyed relaxing at the house and walking the local roads, taking in the nice views across the valley. The bedroom layout was perfect with different wings, and beds for everyone. The bar room was very comfortable and perfect for making drinks in the evening. Some of us thoroughly enjoyed using the outdoor sauna, a new experience for some. The hot tub has views to the ski mountain. The fireplace was stocked when we arrived and we had it going each evening. Beds and linens were of high quality. Overall and excellent choice, and we would look to return next year.
