A Home as sensual as its setting - avant-garde minimalist architecture (Metropolitan Home of the Year) in the heart of Manuel Antonio!
Perched on a steep tropical hill-side above the Pacific Ocean, just minutes north of famous Manuel Antonio National Park, this stunning architectural gem showcases an inspired modern spin on Jungle Geometry: The Villa's spine - 2 immense almond beams - is supported by a double row of massive columns that march through the tri-level 'great room' to a panoramic window-wall, marking the increase in ceiling height from 14 - 24 feet, as the space steps down.
From the entrance porch, strikingly sculptured stairs either levitate to a lofty mezzanine and further up to the master suite and sun-deck above, or widen as they flow down to the kitchen/dining level and the living room below - always inviting to double as seating. The vast floor-to-ceiling glass facade opens to a water-edged living terrace shaded by 3 smartly suspended sails, while high cedar doors attend the side-wing-suite on the right side of the living room level.
CalaLuna was designed to be in tune with its tropical landscape - open to the sea breezes, the scent of ylang ylang trees and the ever-changing light of its rainforest environment. Rooms extend onto expansive balconies, patios and hammock-strung terraces, while the magnificent infinity pool is carved into the hillside and embedded in lush tropical vegetation - shimmering sea views from everywhere.
White walls and sand-colored polished cement floors are offset by playful splashes of color - sun-drenched orange, reds and fuchsia - black granite kitchen counters and richly grained native woods.
A haven completely calm and serene contrasting the abundance of the jungle’s greenery - boldly simple in its furnishings and always sophisticated in its fusion of honest materials and textures - concrete, steel, glass, granite, slate, flagstone and plenty of local hard-woods.
Minimal in decor and yet rich in space, light, ideas and imagination.

QUEPOS, 25 min. by air from San Jose or 3 hours by car, a sport-fishing town and the commercial center of the area (shopping / markets / medical center / banks / car rentals / casino, etc.)
MANUEL ANTONIO: 3 Miles south of Quepos, Costa Rica's most exciting tropical coastal region with several off-shore islands and the truly famous MANUEL ANTONIO NATIONAL PARK - world renowned for its beautiful white sand beaches, monkeys, and amazing variety of wildlife and fauna - a true jungle paradise showcasing the area's natural magnificence.
BEACHES, etc: We are overlooking the northern part of Manuel Antonio's main beach, Playa Espadilla, just 1/2 a mile down our coastal road. Continuing south are 3 more white sand beaches within the park area, as well as romantic Playa Biesanz a few miles north. Within walking distance are many restaurants, cafés and shops and a great super market. Convenient access to local bus and other transportation.
Our family of 6 brought my mom to Costa Rica to satisfy a lifetime dream of hers to visit the area and see the wildlife. We all were absolutely thrilled and amazed at the animals we saw right at CalaLuna! The second day of our stay we had no less than 25 squirrel monkeys on the back porch taking slices of bananas right out of our hands. We saw a baby sloth the very first day and he stayed in the same location outside the master bedroom all week. You will meet Eddie, the huge Spiny Back lizard that lays in the middle of the driveway all day long. Be wary of the capuchins -they look very friendly but when I saw one rip apart a coconut, I immediately gained a new level of respect. Do not worry about the driveway -it is a minor issue compared to the incredible views / wildlife / amenities that CalaLuna offers.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa CalaLuna. Angie was wonderful-friendly, warm, helpful, etc. She carted our luggage down the hill and up the hill in her jeep and cheerfully answered all our questions and made arrangements for all our tours and adventures. Henry was our guide for Manual Antonio and he was very knowledgeable and personable. We enjoyed our time with him.
The house is beautiful. There were six of us and it was very comfortable for us. We loved seeing the monkeys on the deck in the mornings and the swimming pool was wonderful. The view of the ocean was awe inspiring with beautiful sunsets. The steepness of the hill down to the Villa cannot be overstated! It was very steep and great exercise to walk up it in the morning.
I would highly recommend this property. The only thing I would say to improve it is to have an outside dining place.
What an amazing time! My family and my brother-in-law's family (8 total, including 4 kids) stayed 7 nights at Villa CalaLuna and our time was simply incredible. The home was perfect for 2 families and we were very comfortable. The views are second to none and the pool location literally made you feel like you had your own private pool in the middle of the jungle. Squirrel and white-faced monkeys visited several times during the trip and often came right up to the porches. Often there were so many you could not keep count. We even saw a sloth. The sights and sounds were a big part of the experience. The location of the villa was ideal. You could easily walk or take the local bus to anywhere along the main road in MA. Thomas and Angie, our concierges, were incredibly helpful and helped arrange excursions and provided key insights. We took advantage of the private chef (Marisol) on 3 different evenings and wondered why we did not do that every night. We also arranged for massages for the adults. Our time in MA was the perfect combination of luxury, relaxation and adventure.
The locals are incredibly welcoming and helpful. With just showing a little interest, they make you feel like a local. We could not have had a better time. I highly recommend this area and this Villa! We will be back.
This was our third trip to Costa Rica and by far my favorite one. The home was beautiful and was perfect for two families with nine in total. We woke up early every morning to take in the mesmerizing view of the ocean and all the wonderful sounds. We had a monkey parade outside our back yard every day and this was so entertaining. I had only seen one sloth on my other trips to CR but we saw them every day and it was so fun to watch them slowly make their way around. Not to mention all the beautiful birds, butterflies etc. It was exactly the experience we were looking for.
The house was so amazing and we had plenty of space. We spent time relaxing by the pool and in the hammock area. It is in a fabulous location so no need to rent a car. We spent several days at the beach. It was an enjoyable walk to the beach but we taxi'd back up the hills to our house. The kids enjoyed surf lessons, zip lining and we also took a boat and did some snorkeling. All this was arranged by Angie. She was so sweet, helpful and responsive. The adults got a massage in the hammock area overlooking the ocean. I highly recommend all of these things.
The food in this area is beyond excellent. WE DID NOT HAVE ONE BAD MEAL. All the ingredients are so fresh. The people in the area are delightful. We also had the chef cook for us one day and it was unbelievable. It was so much food we actually had it two meals.
I highly recommend this stunning property and the entire experience. I am looking forward to our next trip!!!!!!!
My family of 10 were awe inspired with the home and the views! The home is designed well for privacy for sleeping and also has plenty of space for congregating our large group for meals and fellowship. We woke each morning to the sounds of birds and monkeys. One morning we had a troupe of monkeys run across the patio to the trees. Then, we watched a sloth slowly make his way up a tree. Our favorite part of the trip was having Rambo and his wife prepare what we all agreed was the most delicious meals EVER! He even prepared the large tuna my daughter caught on the charter boat "Amy's Dream"!! Thank you again for a lovely vacation spot!!!
An architecturally stunning house in a rare location. We had a wonderful stay with two families and five young kids. Stunning views of the pacific, while sitting in the jungle right next to the renowned Manual Antionio park - it's like having your own private slice of the park. The kids loved sitting in the pool for the twice-daily visit from a family of monkeys. We were also visited by butterflies and toucans, and sloths near the top of the driveway. No need for a car - we walked to town, beach, and restaurants, and the helpful concierge helped us arrange airport transfers, daily activities (all of which picked us up at the house), and even a chef one night. Only caveat - the driveway is steep, so you should be in reasonable shape, though our seven year old had no trouble. The house and grounds are beautiful and well maintained, and Greg and Pam, the owners, were helpful and responsive. This is a front row seat in paradise.
5 of us stayed at the Villa for a blended family vacation. Our visit was wonderful. The Villa itself is so interesting and fun to stay in with a fascinating layout, vibrant colors and open and spacious feel. The property is lovely and lush with a very private feel even though it is located in the middle of Manual Antonio. And so many monkeys! We had visits from white-face, squirrel and even a howler monkey! A lot of fun. A really good location. An easy walk to good restaurants and bars and convenient shopping and very easy access to the beaches and the national park. The host team was also great doing a wonderful job of helping us arrange activities during out visit. All and all a great place to stay.
The diversity of the area provides those seeking serenity with inspirational views of the Pacific Ocean from the elevation of a tropical rain forest hillside. Conversely, the area provides those seeking adventure with World Class Sport-fishing, Whitewater Rafting, Jungle Canopy Zip-lining, and many other activities. The Villa is located within casual walking distance of many restaurants, coffee shops, souvenir shops and bars.
