We moved from Tampa, FL to Anna Maria Island full-time in 2011.
I was born and raised in Tampa and visited Anna Maria Island many times as a child.
After selling my computer software business in 2007, I bought a 'weekend' place in Holmes Beach in 2008. I immediately fell in love with the island and the friendliness of the locals.
It is a charming small town that I know you too will enjoy.
Debi Wohlers purchased this house in 2013
During Hurricane Matthew we had to evacuate South Florida just a few Hours before Land fall. 5 hours later I was greeted at the resident by Lori
welcoming my family into her home. The rest is Joyful History because I was also celebrating my Birthday. Fantastic accommodations.
Will Highly recommend this Home and considering returning under-less stressful conditions. Thank you Lori!
The property was very nice. Everything was in very good condition. The back area with pool and grill was nice. We would definitely recommend this property and Anna Maria Island
I recently had the opportunity to rent the Crab House with my two sisters and our husbands for a milestone celebration. The 3/2 was perfect for three couples. We had plenty of space and the unit has all the comforts of home including seating areas, four flat screen TV's and updated hard surfaces (granite, flooring etc.)
Our favorite area was the pool. Very private, shade options, pool toys, plenty of seating options, wadding areas to sit and cool off for non swimmers. The landscaping was very tropical and we felt like we had our own oasis.
We only ate in one night because we enjoy eating out. The kitchen had everything we needed (except salt and pepper : ) The area has plenty of close great restaurants and cute shops. The beach is walkable and we enjoyed the sunsets there every night. The area felt very safe and we enjoyed looking at the different beautiful homes in the vicinity.
The home owners were very responsive, nice, and easy to deal with. When we return to that area in the future we would rent the Crab House again and may even bring a few others and rent the other side of the duplex too!
We enjoyed our stay at the "crab shack". The pool and grill are nice and clean. Many amenities and beach toys/gadgets are helpful. Would recommend!
Overall we had a wonderful, relaxing time and our family built some great memories. The duplex is very nice and clean. The appliances and washer and drier were all high-end. The beds maybe aren't like home, but the backyard pool definitely made up for that! We really enjoying the pool!! We enjoyed it almost as much as the beach, and the beach was great. Our place was well stocked with beach, pool and bathroom towels, and again thank goodness for the awesome full sized washer/dryer. We went through towels like crazy. Nothing dries out by itself in Florida! There are also beach chairs, umbrellas and toys included that we hauled down to the beach, and we were thankful for that. The part of the beach we frequented was 4 or 5 blocks away (not 1 or 2), but it was still and easy stroll or bike ride. We cooked quite few meals in the kitchen, and found everything we needed. We had to buy all the spices, coffee, peripherals and such, and had to leave a lot of that behind just like every other guest I'm sure. It would be nice if the next guest could benefit from some of that, but I also understand the safety issue to require throwing it all out. We also dined out a fair amount too, and found plenty of great places to eat as well. Five Stars from us, we'll be back!
Also, Just so other reviewers know, Anna Maria is no longer a lazy little island without much traffic and a speed limit of 25mph. The place is hopping with lots of traffic, the speed limit is 35mph on main roads, and there's quite a bit of new construction and some of the small cottages are getting torn down and replaced with newer and bigger condos and such. The island is becoming much more commercialized. It's still not nearly commercialized as other popular Florida beaches, but it's definitely more than some of the older reviews lead you to believe.
This unit had everything one could need! Neat, super clean and very nicely decorated. The pool and deck area was very nice with wonderful lush landscaping. Debi and Lori responded very quickly to our questions. Our stay was stupendous and we are already making plans for next year!
Anna Maria Island is a quaint Barrier Island nestled in the Gulf of Mexico.
Beautiful turquoise waters and white sandy beaches are the main attraction here. It is a place where 'old' Florida charm can still be found, flip flops are a way of life and the speed limit never exceeds 35mph.
High rise condos and fast food restaurants are pleasantly absent from our pristine 'get away from it all' island.
Our accommodations and restaurants offer something for everyone. From quaint cottages by the sea to deluxe suites, from million-dollar villas to rustic cottages.
One visit to Anna Maria Island and you will be calling it, 'My island in the sun'.
